eFootball (All Platforms)

This game was not two years in development. You saw the teaser they made last year, they were going to make a next gen game. Somewhere in that progress, they decided there was an easier way to make money, and here we are.
Source required. I think all evidence points in the other direction. Konami – years ago – spoke about moving to mobile games for revenue generation in the future, and they killed off all their valuable console IP. They renamed the game two editions ago, in anticipation likely of a full branding change (i.e. to tally with a new kind of product/service). They know that they can make a lot of money from MTX sales on mobile, and they know that they can deliver that sort of game without half as much development cost by axing the console series entirely.

Why is it so hard for people to believe that Konami decided to just bin off the old series and focus on making money in a really scummy F2P live service model with half-baked gameplay? That's what this model is often about; release a buggy pile of shit on release but promise people changes on a rOaDmAp and make them think it's good value because it's "Free to play" (=fee to pay).

Oh, and that teaser trailer proved nothing – just a placeholder/misdirection, so they could sell the same product for two years and not lose customers by telling them the truth about what was planned.
I kind of like it to be honest. Animations, dribbling and ball phisics looks better than any football game I ever see. I would definitely play this if it had an offline mode.
Thought you were the other Daniel for a second!
I think these circles will have an option to be turned off (better be :))) ) , it is similar to FIFA training controls that you can turn off as well.
They will be; they were in the NFGOPT.
You don't get it ! Cross platform is the only reason that we STILL have game on console !
Precisely! Spot on.
They only created the Messi model and the grass specifically for that short teaser. Sort of a placeholder to appease the crowd just when they were about to let us down with the Season Update (or shortly after that). They needed something for people to look forward to.

It's not like they extracted all of that from an ongoing game under development for the teaser. It was the other way around. They created all of that just for that teaser.

That's what I think at least. It's what common sense tells me.
Exactly this. It amazes me people think that teaser ever meant something.

Here's how I think it went down, and yes I am guessing, but also using my common sense.

I agree that the original teaser was just that, and nothing more. However, I think Konami did plan to make a next gen at the time, it probably would not have look like that but they wouldn't have been the first developers to downgrade something from an initial teaser. However, at some point the project just became too big in their eyes, and someone says (and yes I am reaaaally guessing now) "Damn, if only we could make this as easily as the mobile game, that thing is making us the real yen here" and in that moment, a lightbulb goes up over everyone's head. Ditch the real next gen project, base the whole thing on the mobile version, make some half-decent intro sequences and cut-scenes so they can act like it was next gen all along, have Adam and co drum up some spiel about waiting to play before judging, and if people are unhappy, so what, we are getting our money.

The reason why I think this is that this game LOOKS LIKE ASS. And not playboy model ass, but plumber ass. I played the "New Football Game" beta and it was absolutely HIDEOUS. Then there is the myriad of other sub-par things we have all seen in gameplay videos, things cut, simplified controls, skating all over the place, if it took them two years to port their (already existing) mobile game to consoles, they must have some seriously short work days. I just can't buy it.

I would like to add that I am not trying to defend Konami here. I don't think this is any less shitty than if they never intended to do anything but a mobile port to begin with.

I was hesitant about whether to give this post a Like or a laughing emoji. The playboy model/plumber analogy weighted heavily on my decision.

And yes mate, I agree with almost everything you said. I can definitely picture something like that went on and ended up happening which is why this game isn't even a 50% finished product.

Footage is awful in so many levels... pace, positioning, tactical concepts, animations, graphics, goalkeepers, CPU AI, teammates AI.
It just dissapoints in all of these aspects.
Looking forwards to try FIFA for the first time. At least they are honest about what they are trying do (they ARE trying to do something).

Just off the first two gameplay videos I've seen of eFootball and FIFA 22, eFootball looks more current/next gen than FIFA. Was pleasantly surprised by how eFootball looks.

I can't comment on gameplay because I need to actually play it. Everyone has different styles of playing so would be foolish to judge gameplay based on a video.

I see the majority on here want to see eFootball fail and gleefully picking out negatives rather than looking for any positives. I get people are pissed off because of the name change, but it's free to play now, updates will come and we need to give the game a chance. The nitpicking over footage of a game that has been explicitly been described as a demo at launch is embarrassing. Why would anyone who genuinely loves this football series want it to fail because it's actually evolving like its previous name said it would.

There's going to be a transitional period, so let's help with the development of eFootball rather than kill it off before it's even had a chance to breathe.

I like the weitht of players. Dribbling seems more interesting and functional.

I like How AI defence can stay High up the pitch and doesnt automatically enter on desperate mode as soon your team loses the ball and Go all the way back like idiots, giving free space for the opponent team to Sprint.

At this point, the absolutely terrible AI awereness is what really kill any possibility for this game to become more Fun and unpredictable.

@Isslander is probably the funniest guy with the best sense of formula here, no doubt.
That ass comparison killed me.

They still haven't fixed the issue where all player's heights are the same in cutscenes.
How long has this problem been in the game for?. We all thought this was caused by the FOX Engine. I guess not...
I noticed in most of celebrations, the player's got their good weight. Also on replay.
But in some others cutscenes, the same height, in some others, height were respected.
I tried to get all possible "off game" scenes as that problem really annoyed me as i like when there's some immersive stuffs like that (you could try it yourself on a match if you don't believe me).
Looks like when there's "special" collisions or just a... Forgot. Those 3 players don't touch each others, so i don't see the collision.
It's probably a... "Don't care" or "forgot/didn't noticed" stuff as usual.

The players have the same height in celebrations because they're dumb pre-determined animations of players interacting together, without room for modifying the animations according to player heights.

For e.g. If a celebration requires a player to hold another one from his shoulder, the hand would need to grab slightly higher or slightly lower if it was a smart animation. But since they're dumb fixed animations, all the players are given the same height and build so that players' hands wouldn't go through other players torso while interacting. Needless to say, these haven't been an issue in FIFA for several, several years, were all the animations are smart and modifying themselves according to player height.

If the AI, the gameplay and the animations will be the same on mobiles i will play it...

When it s smartphones release date? 30 of September or in October?

"I get people are pissed off because of the name change."

That's but one of many thorns in people's sides, but ultimately a minor one.

By my estimate, the bulk of the transitional period should have already taken place. After all, we were given a slightly modified PES 2020 in place of a proper sequel last year because Konami assured us that they were hard at work on a true, next-gen experience! Turns out, that was a massive lie. That was supposed to be the transitional period seeing as we got week old leftovers with PES 2021 Season Update. They couldn't even give us a transparent beta test this summer.

eFootball 2022 has been in development for almost three years (unprecedented for annualized sports games), but it's going to be missing a whole slew of features when it launches this month. Why? What excuse could they possibly have? More to the point, what excuse should the fan base be willing to accept? Perhaps they had to scrap their initial project, but that's irrelevant at this point as it's pure speculation.

"The nitpicking over footage of a game that has been explicitly been described as a demo at launch is embarrassing."

What's embarrassing is Konami imploring its customers to view the launch of eFootball as a demo when they've had this much time to develop the game. They've shown nothing in terms of trailers or feature lists to garner such sympathy. I'd take that plea to heart if they had crammed their game with brand new/revamped features and gameplay and it was a case of them biting off a bit more than they could chew. You know, if it was evident that they were truly attempting to elevate the series. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing that sort of ambition on display here. What do they have on offer? A paltry selection of clubs, some offline exhibitions, and online. Not a whole lot going on under the hood to put it kindly.

They want us to view it as a demo because in terms of content, it might as well be a demo. Why does the road map look bare bones? Why are lofted ball mechanics they introduced in the trailer not available at launch? Correct me if I'm wrong, but we might not see Master League until next spring. The season will have almost concluded by then! Again, this is one of the main issues (besides the gameplay itself as well as the implications of a homogeneous platform) people have. The question "why?" could be seen as rhetorical. Lowering production costs and maximizing profits.

I'll gladly eat some humble pie if eFootball morphs into the juggernaut of a football game most PES enthusiasts demand, but I'm not willing to give Konami the benefit of the doubt. It's been years since that's been the case.

Seen footage.

Not quite as bad as I expected. I love the movement and animations which make it look like a new engine. There so much potential here, this was the big flaw of the fox engine they have really come out good for this new unreal platform engine which enhances what was from the Fox Engine code.

But its not finished, bugs galore which I did expect!

Tactics seem to have been simplified. off the ball the AI doesn't seem to do a lot which renders each game a mess even when ignoring general bugs. But this is just a first opinion, will need much more content, better footage and to actually play it to really give a clear judgement where we will be at this year.

I have to understand all the AI awareness off the ball tactically in offence and defence from PES 2018-2021 etc.. needs to be rewritten and will take time even if not deliberately dubbed down. The AI only really understood like 3 speeds of movement on these games whereas this has a proper fluid gradient of movement for all players on and off the ball.

I think I will be right in that this maybe similar to PES 2018 where it will be 'playable late October/November and a decent, possibly nice game next year January. (I'm a optimist after all)

Long term i see some good things to come from this gameplay, short term will be interesting to explore this but i expect big problems and game breaking bugs and issues. We all have the right to lead an inquest to why the hell this game is so unfinished after apparently 2-3 years of work. Why do you still have flaws like all the players being rendered the same height in cutscenes and this is supposedly 2-3 years of work?
