eFootball (All Platforms)

Well people, It's that time of year for us again!

Every year, we gather around, ponder and fantasise about what we're going to anticipate or sulk about for the rest of the year from this point on.

Maybe in recent years, it's the latter but nonetheless, it's a yearly ritual for us to speculate, digest, eagerly await and lampoon the new trailer but it's probably one we'll still be doing like a bunch of old farts for the next 20 years.

Heres to another year of a (belated because of bloody covid) new PES reveal day!

My reaction tomorrow after Konami announcement

I think with Messi who didn't resigned yet with Barcelona, they have secured a custom cover star for the next football game with Neymar Jr.
Having on the cover maybe Messi/Neymar/CR7 is really good for marketing and selling the product.

But players like us se don't care about this, we need gameplay. It's tomorrow and no hype from Konami.
They have Euro 2020 licence and no avertis g of the next game. Very strange but they used to do this everytime!

It's somewhat weird that they didn't hold their Neymar card, really.

I mean, it's smart in a business perspective because it drives people to keep on using that myClub or whatever (never interested so never used it but I guess they're adding it there?) even when you're one day away from announcing pes 2021. And sure, FIFA is being shown today and you kinda take the attention away for a bit.

But it also somewhat damages PES-or-whatever 2022 that you show things for 2021 one day away from announcement, and you refusing to mention it at all in any form, or tease, or act like nothing. Japanese company stuff I guess, Nintendo does weird stuff on marketing sometimes too.
Neymar regularly plays FIFA on PC as well; be interesting to see if he stops doing that. I remember back in the day when Aubameyang was a PES ambassador and still actively and openly played FIFA.

Must feel like a slap in the face when they'll have paid a fortune to them.

I think we’re getting the NFG beta with polished graphics and it will be an f2p initial release, same game on different platforms.

The whole Konami silence is an attempt at prolonging and limiting the shit storm imo.

I think the “3 years in development” and not releasing a game last year to work on 2022 is all bullshit and they’ve basically ported over the Fox engine game and polished it up with whatever graphical capabilities unreal has.

Imagine if tomorrow they will release screenshots and graphics similar to the beta after talking about going to the next level with last year teaser.

You know sxomeone will still defend it, but it will mostly be an epic shitstorm on every social network and here on evo web.

I hope you're wrong, but I strongly feel that you're right. The tweets talking of a "new route" for PES today, combined with @Ameppe's spot three posts up from here, and the test being called "New Football Game"... Feels like PES is being ditched (which isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world), and being replaced with something they can more easily manage across more platforms, to make more myClub dollar.

Switching to the F2P model would mean no more yearly releases too. On the one hand, great for the wallet. On the other, why would they care about offline players if they can't make any money from them... Would offline modes be killed off fairly quickly, and would the gameplay ever really significantly change again?

But a few of the fan accounts with contacts at Konami seem excited, so maybe I'm just being a typical "Emo-Webber".

I just noticed that here

https://www.konami.com/games/eu/en/topics/15961/

All the news refer to Pes as efootball (efootball Pro, efootball Open). I am really worried the game will simply be called efootball. Terrible terrible name if you ask me.
I think this was obvious and it was given since months ago. They updated the pes mobile somewhere, YouTube channel? And pes prenom was removed completely, only efootball.

@Ximelez Basically every marketing lie is based usually on an truth.they are working on pesmobile UE for 3 years. :D

Or we can go the full George Orwell way, Which i love the most in pes community, like : " they never said they are working for 3 years.Bruh , people are too lazy to read"..

I paid money for nearly all of these below apart the latest Xbox version. I even bought a Gamecube and had it modded to play Japanese games so I could play Winning Eleven with Michael Owen and Emile Heskey, two big players on it.

If it ends now for me I'm okay with that, football titles are not meant to last this long.

If PES 2022 doesn't look and play significantly better than Fifa, then Konami are finished, for me. I play Master League offline so...

This is not going to happen, the negativity an unpolished, really old beta build from months ago can generate really amazes me. Just wait before coming to conclusions?

I'm also wondering if they're switching to a model that means no more yearly releases. Which is great for the wallet, but makes me wonder if they'll ever really dramatically change the gameplay, other than to serve the myClub crowd.

At the very least, when news comes the reaction is not going to be boring! :)) Yes, they may as well ditch PES now if they cannot take it on any further. Ironically, they will force die-hard fans to buy Fifa or just play old versions of PES I'm guessing.

the test being called "New Football Game"
That for me still means that it's an old build made with the purpose of just testing the connection as they said, and they don't want any one to think it's PES or near to the final product, because it won't be like that

I did initially, but link "New Football Game" to @Ameppe's spot that all mention of PES is being removed and replaced with eFootball across the official sites, and... It seems to me like they're very purposefully dropping "PES" and severing all ties with the idea that it's even related, any more.

Being in marketing, I know that companies never, ever drop a brand name with strong brand recognition (it's so hard to get that any more), unless A) they're either trying to distance themselves from their old customers and desperately chase a younger audience ("hey kids, that crusty old PES game your dad talks about, we're not that - we're new and cool")... Or B) the brand has got a terrible quality reputation, and they want to "start again" so that customers don't realise it's them.

The funny thing is that eFootball is such an uncool / dad name itself. 🤣

It's pure 90s, when the web was taking off and people were naming everything e-something because it was cool at the time. E-Mail, E-Shop. They should make the in-game menu resemble a 90s Geocities page, with an animated gif of Neymar... diving.

I hear that, fellow marketer. Or marketeer, as some characters like to call it.

The irony isn't lost that they no longer wish the series to be seen as evolving. A line drawn in the sand, this is to be viewed as something new for an audience who, let's be honest, wouldn't go near a PES game now if you payed them.

But the link @Ameppe sent, it still shows eFootball PES for me:

KONAMI ANNOUNCES NEYMAR JR. AS NEWEST AMBASSADOR FOR THE eFootball PES SERIES

So it's not like they are dropping the PES name, they definitely won't, why will they call it 'PES' in the teaser, but suddenly change their mind over the next year and change the name of the series?
