EA SPORTS FC 24

This couldn't be the beginning of a greater realisation from Joe Public that the defence vs attack balance is massively broken, could it? No, probably not, but let's hope.

I was talking to @Emroth earlier about trying to force some enjoyment out of the game by accepting the bad stuff, to enjoy the good.

I'm no hater - I actually loved FIFA 19 for a fairly long time:

Back to my Newcastle career.

Guys. The game just broke my heart.

Can't stress it enough. Absolutely gutted. This is the last game in December, against Liverpool. The winning streak ended in the last game, against Crystal Palace at home (lost 1-0).

I thought I'd settle for a draw - especially at Anfield. Then I noticed they were playing their kids - so I thought, let's take it to them and not immediately go on the defensive.

Get a load of this. Quite a physical game, and count how many blocks there are!

(If you can't be arsed watching five minutes, just fast forward 4:20 and watch Van Dijk's toe, etc...)

:(

...but since then, the fundamentals have just gone crazy. Truly insane. Passes that move beyond possible speeds, taken in a player's stride with zero risk of a poor touch - defenders who serve no purpose - headers from a gentle throw-in that travel half the length of the pitch...

The ball has just so clearly been redesigned to be a dot moving from player to player, not a physical object reacting to contact, friction and gravity.

I just can't understand how anyone can get beyond how few fundamentals of Earth gravity / human physical ability there are, and immerse themselves in this game without being yanked out of it literally from kick off (when the ball flies like a rocket and stops on a dime for the first pass recipient, no ball control ever exhibited).

But hopefully the quote above proves I'm not just a crank who can't get fun out of a FIFA. (Just none since 19.)

EDIT: Just watching that video in the quote back... The ball has acceleration and deceleration! I play a through-ball and the ball actually rolls to a stop, it doesn't just maintain rocket speed until it hits something! God, it's like looking forward in time, not five years backwards!!

And speaking of FIFA 19 being my last enjoyed FIFA game...

...how can they be so desperate for responsiveness that they break the game like this? How do you immerse yourself in this if you're not just a trigger-happy FUTter?

You can go as far back as Fifa 16 to find better dribbling and player movement. This proves the license wasn't holding back the franchise. It was EA's laziness that got us here. There is no excuse for this.

As much as I shit on Efootball, one thing you won't find is this kind of crap.

Like I said earlier, this game sold out to Fut influencers and football comedy channels. I can see channels like AFTV and that muppet from the United Stand playing this game on their livestreams, watching how unrealistic players dribble the ball, and calling it ground breaking to millions of their 11 year old fans.

No no no, thats just an alt version of gravity #deepstate #tinfoil

I agree but with that said, 62 million is a lot of people :LMAO:
No way did 62m people decide to like footy because of this shite. I’d bet my house that is bs. Not shooting the messenger, it’s just as much of a reality as their gameplay physics.

19, especially with OS sliders (I amended acc and FT error) is the final game I can see myself playing in this franchise. I have 16 and 19 perma-installed (along with PES 19 & 2021) and I just don’t see anything in the new games that offers anything past these titles except updated rosters/kits which I really don’t care about.

Yup been like that for a few days

There are a lot of bugs again.
- camera settings change to default after I played a futsal match in Volta (kick off mode)
- game crashed when I scrolled through the stats after a game
- every 3 or 4 matches I have serious stuttering, forcing me to end the game (not the worst decision though)
- just played a champions league match, where after a throw in the camera changed to this new manager cam, although the settings where untouched. I couldn't change it so I had to restart the match.
- in the restarted match these two gentlemen attended the game:

Before the update 2 when i was at the base menu the gpu use was about 40 - 50 percent
When I enter UT menu the gpu goes to 70 - 80 percent. They fix that and now works normally.
There are others bugs which still at the game like black screen before a match start,
game stuck and keep loading and you have to hard restart the game (alt+f4)

It was a stupid update and they only fix one thing with a lot other problems...
But if you think again it was a move to fix fast the menu only for one reason...
Gambling! A lot of users with low end gpus have problems with high usage of gpu
game stuck and they cant buy packs, points or use the menu for transfers and sbc
Money its the number one priority... not the game.

I am actually surprised how bad this game is! On PS5 my first match with 7 minute halves and I drew 11-11 (world class difficulty) absolutely awful. How has it come to this? The last fifa game that made scoring feel rewarding was 17. All since are a joke. For anyone reading don’t give EA your hard earned money

One thing I'm not finding with latest OS sliders is high scorelines.

I'm pretty intermediate in terms of skill level, and playing on world class, I rarely win by more than a goal or two.

In fact, of the 11 matches I've played vs world class AI, I've only won 3 I think. I've noticed one or two occasions of being able to dribble past players too easily...but mostly, there's a fair bit of resistance. Maybe if I attempted a long dribble I could just waltz through.

Either way, there is still something missing from this game that leaves it feeling empty/disconnected.

Seems like from 20 on, FIFA/EA FC have been on a downward spiral.. FIFA 23 Switch version is an exception, which actually plays more like the earlier editions and I've actually enjoyed. I guess the only hope is that following patches fix the glaring flaws of this version but I wouldn't count on it. Thank goodness for all of the previous editions of FIFA/PES we have to enjoy.

Well, got to turn down difficulty to Pro (from World Class) and now the game's a little more balanced. At least I don't concede 4 in a half like it used to happen on World Class.
What grinds my gears is that in 10 years' time we went from 'Precision Movement' being a selling point (check its trailer out here) to a game that could easily be advertised by Steven Bradbury for how much skating it features.
And yes, it might be marginally better than FIFA 23 but skating still IS there. And they do nothing to hide it!

This being said, sliders are actually doing a desperate job of trying to save the game, and they're kinda successful at that (so shout out to the good guys that spend countless hours doing those)...
I don't know how long they'll last out though.

Operation Sports properly roasted the game and EA on their review. They don't put review scores anymore but it reads like a 2/10 or 3/10 at best.
"EA just wants to monetize their cash cow".
When a site like OS have these lines across a review we can safely say now that this game is done and dusted especially for offline users. If this continues with the next iteration OS will simply put out a 0/10.

I don't feel like fifa 23 and eafc are more responsive than fifa 19.

18, 19 had very tight and responsive controls when you moved your left stick. It felt good. On the other hand there is noticeable delay to your stick inputs on the current games. It's just that the players skate all over the pitch and looks ugly unlike 18, 19 where it looked like the players foot were planted on the pitch.

Why did they stop releasing demo?

Because if people played the demo then lots of them wouldn't buy it. They just want your money now 🤑🤑🤑

"I grew up playing FIFA with my father, and this week I played FC for the first time with Rosie my daughter," Salmon concludes.

"And that connection is a very real thing. We needed to be sure as we were going through this transition that the fans understood that the experience that they know and love, and that they connect with on that emotional level, is not going to be changed or ruined. All of that authenticity, all of those players, clubs, leagues, all of that innovation, all of that immersion, was going to be part of this. And not only that, but also we could use this as a moment of change to, as I mentioned already, go from being a video game built out of football to being a football platform built from a video game."

I'm actually really loving the game with Paul's gameplay mod, and when they hopefully sort the bugs in the game , Paul and others do other mods it will be even more enjoyable, I cam understand people's issues with things in the game, and I fucking hate FUT with a passion. But I think a lot of it goes too far , it doesn't need to be as real to life as some people expect unless your gonna play 90 minute games and just keep possession like in a real match, it has to be fun too

There are plenty of football games when you play 12 minute games that capture the essence of a proper game of football with some accurate account of realism. FIFA has hardly any realism and i dont think its intended to.

Even my 8 year old lad finds it funny who play under 9s football finds it ridiculous watching players warping and skipping around the pitch.

I know what you mean , but with the mods I've enjoyed the game more, added with the graphics its as close to emulating a game as youre gonna get now , people still go back to pes21 and the way the platers run in that game Is ridiculous it looks stupid but that'd mentioned less than the fifa skating

I did the early access thing hoping now EA and fifa had parted ways I was going to see more new shizzle and much more edit mode stuff but it's just a cross breed of Esports & Fifa. Stupid me I guess. Also Dude it played better on the beta or maybe it's me.
Fair enough mate. I can’t talk really, I bought every fifa up until 22 but that was the last - I refuse to give EA money these days.

Two news updates for today.

Firstly, title update #2 is out now across all relevant platforms:

Secondly...

It has been announced that there will be a £30 card pack for FUT, called the Elite Season Opener.
(Also, you can't actually buy £30 worth of credit outright, so it'll cost most players £40.)

This is being labelled as a blatantly "pay-to-win" pack by players on Reddit. The game has been officially out for less than a week, FFS.

Eurogamer: EA Sports FC 24 players fuming at £30 Ultimate Team card pack
"There is absolutely no way it should be normalised"

The Elite Season Opener Pack costs 285,000 coins (the in-game currency) or 3000 FC Points (premium currency) and seemingly includes such powerful cards that players are accusing EA of pay-to-win tactics.

And this is a microtransaction in a game that already costs £70.

The pack contains the following untradeable items:

  • 45 Rare Gold players rated 80 or higher
  • 1 of 2 Player Pick Loan Base Hero rated 87 or higher
  • 1 of 2 Player Pick Loan Base Icon rated 88 or higher

In theory, this would net players with some of the best footballers to add to their Ultimate Team squad, with the game only just launching last week.

And of course, while the pack costs 3000 FC, the currency is only available in set bundles, meaning players will likely have to buy 5900 FC costing around £40, or 2800 FC (£20) plus 1600 FC (£12).

As IGN reports, while the pack offers a high chance of getting one of the best cards in Ultimate Team, the odds are that players will receive plenty of duplicates - especially if you already have plenty of cards. After all, the cards received are randomised, even if EA provides the probabilities up front.

"It's fine, you'll get one 85 at best, and the rest is dupes. Seriously there are so many more players this year with women but I get more dupes than ever," said reddit user M-Colcko on a post about the pack.

In fact, many Reddit users are fuming about the price of the pack.

"It's £30, there is absolutely no way it should be normalised for people to spend that amount of money on a game which is already overpriced," said towfoon. "In two weeks time you won't have any interest in any of those players you pulled unless it is an absolutely insane pull."

Said Adzzii_: "Obviously it's a good pack but please seek therapy if you're buying this. First week of fifa and you're dropping £30 on an untradeable pack."

"I bought it for the ultimate edition points. Knew it was bad value but figured I'd get something. One 85 fodder and 26 dupes all below 83 rated," said Appearance_Deficit. "Put dupes into gold upgrades and got nothing. Essentially got a poor 100k pack for three times the price."

EA has long been criticised for its inclusion of loot boxes in FIFA, as when Eurogamer interviewed EA's chief experience officer Chris Bruzzo back in 2021.

The company stuck with loot boxes for FIFA 23, after the UK government decided not to legislate the monetisation system.

More recently, EA was fined in Austria as a court decided the packs were a breach of gambling laws.

EA Sports FC 24 is the second-biggest UK boxed game launch of the year, though sales are down 30 percent compared with FIFA 23. That still constitutes millions in earnings, which will only be boosted by in-game monetisation like the Elite Season Opener Pack.

The only way this will be stopped, other than legal action as stated, is if people stopped buying packs or even the game. I would start trying to educate parents and pupils via schools etc some kind of anti gambling campaign at an early age. I havent bought it this year for the fist time in since fifa 08 but my ps5 is locked down so my son cant buy shit like this including robox which is coming out on ps5 next week apparently. He would spend all my salary if it wasnt locked down :)

It's kind of crazy that they go that far. My kids don't even pay for Ultimate team, but they can still play it just fine with the perks/coins or whatever default comes with the standard version. They are career-mode minded players though, so whoever they have on their team, they settle with and only make small moves here and there. One of the positives of the mode is they learn a lot about players they had no idea about before.

My oldest just started playing Seasons and is having a lot of fun. My middle one is my sliders tester, and he's so perceptive about the little things. He's already playing on World Class, but just like me, he refuses to use Fulham so as not to ruin their real-life season. What good that did against Chelsea.
