EA SPORTS FC 24

How is it some people are still experiencing the game as fine where as me and some others I've seen positing on twitter have their games broken since the update?

Different platforms seem to play quite differently too.

The trial I've been playing has been fine since the update...

Great to hear, mate. That is going to be so good for the community. Even with just sliders, we've managed to get the game looking like a football match here and there. The lower sprint speed is such a massive change from FIFA 23 because now we can enjoy our players stopping when they should and feel like they have more weight to them. Makes for some brilliant interactions throughout the pitch. The CPU is so good with the ball at times, then you put enough pressure and anticipation - you just never know what happens. I can truly feel a difference between World Class and Legendary as well.

You can see this match several times where the CB jockey had a chance of showing but never did, in fact the CBs react so well and get back to cover spaces where needed. I even try to burst through the lines several times, and it's just not that easy. DAA is here and there, but not to the same levels as previous iterations.

Could you tell me the settings you use on the game camera? It seems to me that the game is more or less rushed from different angles, I would like to test it with your camera settings!

I think it comes down to how you're looking at the game. @Matt10 and I at the moment are looking at it as a base to work from. He's looking at sliders and I'm looking at the gameplay files, so we're both looking at what areas are existing in the game to help us to shape it to be more how we'd like it.

I'm sure he, like me have run into particular brick walls over the last number of years when trying to mod the game based on the limitations that have been set by EA, so when we see things that help open up the possibilities, that's where we're coming from.

Some of the big positives I've spoken about, I'm not looking at them in the context of the default game. I'm looking at how they'll be helpful once I've been able to adjust lots of other areas. In a world where football games aren't designed for us, we have to take some of the wins - and there definitely are some in here for us sim guys. Hopefully once I make more progress with the gameplay mod I'll be able to show that more. I understand that it won't be for everyone and that's ok too.

I'm not mate I've had the game since last Thursday and was enjoying it mostly until yesterday I loaded up and updated and now the AI defenders rarely make an attempt to tackle me or defend through balls, added to that the AI attackers knocking the ball yards ahead of themselves and running past you, constantly non stop through game, non of this was happening before its clearly since the update and a bug, there's videos on twitter last night from people who have had the same problems. I was literally a quarter of the way through season on career with none of these issues till yesterday

So many none sense passes by the AI. I always compare to 16 AI, so this, sadly, stands out for me negatively. 🤷‍♂️

So apparently, EA has delisted all previous FIFA games across storefronts, not sure about FIFA 23 though as that's still supported with Microtransactions, and FC24 isn't officially released worldwide yet, 23 would still be the contemporary game.

Still, Yet another example of digital and streaming's scrubbing culture. There wasn't even any notice for this happening giving people the option to snap up the older games while they can. If you're lucky you'd be able to pay a premium to key seller sites and even that's been a mission for people trying to obtain and key for the elusive FIFA 16.

What are these lower sprint values Matt? I'd like to try them. More weight would be a huge help...
Sprint 20/20, and on World Class we are using 51/52 acceleration; while on Legendary it's Sprint 20/20 and acceleration at 51/51.
Have you managed to get any crosses? Apparently a lot of folks said they had crosses in earlier build. But the current build is back to old AI that refuses to cross.
There were crosses in the video I posted. In general, they usually cross more on World Class than Legendary, but it also depends on what type of team you play. Spurs rarely cross as they love to pass on the ground as much as possible, while most championship teams and lower leagues will send in a cross. I played Forest here as Wolves and there were plenty of crosses:

Legendary is just a bit of a different beast, so that's why we're not 100% ready to release the second version of the sliders just yet. Needs more sample size with a goal of reducing the effectiveness of CPU's tendency to cut back rather than cross.

I mean, you have to take what you can with modern-day FIFA. It can't be ignored just how much better the AI passing is on FC24 compared to any FIFA post FIFA 16. Rewatch the video and count how many times they choose to play side-to-side or backwards. That's completely unheard of. Look at how there is pressure on the player receiving the ball. The very basic decision-making of receiving a square pass that has to be returned or whether or not the player can turn their defender. There are a lot of fundamentals in these sequences that we haven't seen since FIFA 16. Defenders meet attackers immediately, defenders going past the halfway line to support the attack, midfielders forced to have their back to goal, etc.

Fully got ya!
and yes, indeed, I noticed those side ways short passes by the AI. That’s a positiv thing I noticed.
still, their mentality is mostly forward! better than, as you mentioned, in the lastet modern titles because they go at least sideways now. But still, and you as a coach well know this, they don’t take the opportunity to pass back as often as it would make sense!

There is one example right in the beginning of your linked video.
cb is behind the 6er (with the ball)… but yeah, they try to pass it through the opponent forward to their midfield player… instead of passing it to the cb and then evolve…

again, I can see the progress but still can’t unsee how much work there still needs to be done to have basic team behavior correct.

edit: I just took the time… first 5 ingame minutes…
red = pass ai does
green = how it should do and 16 does (99%)

football is a game of avoiding mistakes. Nothing else! That AI don’t gimme the impression it knows this! 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, this is especially noticeable in COM v COM games, it's so underwhelming to watch as the AI does many dumb things once it gets into the final 3rd.

There is a blatantly better passing option or an opportunity to shoot and they either

  1. Carelessly waste a pass to a striker buried under defenders
  2. Hog the ball and do the crazy zig zaggy dribbling until they get soaked up and dis-possessed

I have been playing with os sliders so far. The game shape has been really quite impressive, so great job on that. It was erratic movement that was bothering me.

I will try 20 for speed. Thanks Matt.

The way passes move... Zero acceleration, just instantly the speed of light, and collected by the recipient's boot like a metal ball to a magnet. It just looks, and feels, absolutely horrific. I don't get how anyone sees past it.

every year I check in and hope with everything I have you’re positive about either game Chris…and every year…😭

I think after about 5 years without playing one of these for an extended period it might be time to try and scratch my itch. Even if I know if you hate it I almost certainly will 😂

Hey everyone, please try the xbone/ps4 version of the game.
It has way less skating and way more natural looking turfs.

What video settings are you guys using? I tried with vysnc off and on on the nvidia panel and many ingame settings but can't seem to find something that wont stutter, you can see in the ball the stuttering.. Tried also using 165 and 144hz, i have a gtx 1660 super and i5 11400f

Does anyone feel like dribblers with worse rating is more harder to tackle than dribblers with high rating when controlled by CPU? Dribblers will high rating just run straight to me allowing me to make easy tackle. No change of direction at all.

I haven't play the game and I don't plan to buy it after all I've seen so far. Ai is retreating immediately after losing the ball. Also even in higher difficulties I saw how player easy run through whole pitch on the side and AI players simply retreat when they come around 3 meters near the player. Not to mention erratic movements and animations when player make more touches on the ball. If these two fundamental things work game will be much more realistic even if it's faster but in this state is comic to watch.

im hoping its sorted in next patch cos it wasnt like this until yesterday, feels like a bug

I still haven't hit career but in Clubs defenders basically escort attackers. They will also randomly follow a player out wide but just never tackle, leaving huge gaps. Very frustrating.
Also seem unable to defend a switch of play.
First time passing is still insane, I'm talking switch from left to right and a 180 volley back across lands right onto an attacker.

Trying to find some fun in it but it's just too arcadey and not fun.

Is that not the most obvious indication yet that this game isn't even remotely designed to simulate actual football? How can you ban a FORMATION?

I don't think there's one person left thinking fifa is a football game and this formations ban is the funniest thing i've read so far! 🤣

Watch out people, EA could ban anyone trying to play the game like it's football. There are devs lurking and some of you are on a list of suspects, who are trying to make it more realistic.

Yeah I am seeing these gaps too. I lowered the marking value and it seemed to improve it.

Oooh, come on! This shit is absolutely hilarious :LMAO:.. with this game real life is funnier than parody, you couldn't make stuff like this up.

What's next now? They'll ban CBs? The tackle button?

They've essentially banned defending (and football) years ago, when they first introduced 1v1s. But some are still able to take the ball from little Timmy who wants to score with Messi and become a fifa pro... so that's surely the next step!

I really shouldn't be reading about a game I have zero interest in, but god, that was just too funny to miss.

Sprint speed 20 has made a significant improvement all round. Game feels weightier, and now has some rhythm, which is great.

If only there was more immediacy to controlling the players...

Meh, I'm not that picky, mate. You can't be when it comes to modern-day FIFA. The gap in football vs FUTball is so massive these days, that I'd just be glad this looks somewhat close to the sport before all the patches come knocking it down (still praying they don't). The CPU plays more human like, as in error-prone, with pressure to perform, and that's all you can ask for in a sports game. The great thing is that the tactics actually work, the playstyles work, so there is depth team-by-team and player-by-player. You can toggle on Player Based Difficulty to make those players really stand out, or you can toggle it off. The options are so much in our favor that the controls are even more in depth than they have ever been.

Compare it to FIFA 16, and yeah, FIFA 16 has superior gameplay. It's also not a fair comparison. Unless someone here played the beta, there was no indication that the AI would play how they do right now in FC24 post-sliders. So just like last year, I am more than pleasantly surprised at what we have in our hands.
