EA SPORTS FC 24

I played 2 games this morning. (vanilla, i havent modded anything, yet)

Match 1:
Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday
Lost 4 - 0
Difficulty: Legendary

Notes:
Pros:
- I could tell both teams are poor
- I couldnt create anything with such a poor team
- The formation and tactics were a massive hinderance, changing tactics helps but was too late
- The game in general was slow, in movement, passing, build up, both teams looked pathetic
- Nice to see the AI play some long passes out of defence
- AI fouled a few times, resulting in some tasty yellow cards
Cons:
- The game suffered with its usual problems when set at a higher difficulty
- The AI will ALWAYS score when this difficulty is selected, no matter the player's ability
- The AI will ALWAYS try the "killer pass" into the box to score, its boring and should be removed
- Not enough crosses
- Referee incorrectly called a penalty against me when I took the ball first ( this is up for debate )

Match 2:
Arsenal v PSV
Won 3 - 1
Difficulty: World Class

Notes:
Pros:
- I could tell both teams were much better than the previous match
- I had much more freedom of passing and movement, with top players like Odegaard and Saka standing out
- The AI had a red card
Cons:
- The AI will ALWAYS try the "killer pass" into the box to score, its boring and should be removed
- Not enough crosses

Summary
In my opinion, this game is not as bad as people are making out. It plays a game of football fairly well at an average level. It is nice to see attributes matter in a vanilla game after so many years. There are many options in the settings that must be changed before you start playing. I selected the competitive set but with "advanced defending", this felt much more natural. That combined with semi assisted controls for through passes and I felt more in control of the game. Yes, there is a "skating" issue but show me a game where there isn't. This is a step (not huge) improvement on FIFA 23, I just hope they don't ruin it with patches for those on consoles.
your latest mod for FIFA 23 (final) is simply fantastic. I hope for your work and your passion for FIFA 24 too. Thanks in advance

The other games :

Boca Junior Vs River Plate

Celtics Vs Rangers

Real Vs Barca

England Vs France

Griezmann volley goal

Lille Vs Lyon

The commentary in some of these clips is like going back 30 years. It sounds like they‘ve got Danny from accounts to quickly get some one liners done.

Because the majority of real footballers are uneducated individuals spoilt by the excessive amount of salaries they receive. There are only a few out there (Vardy for example) who are genuine individuals. Check Vardy's interview on Sky Sports a couple of days ago.
Why would a footballer care that a football computer game is shit anyway?

Because some of them are promoting this videogame for years and a lot of them even said they're playing it and the game is fantastic. If I was a pro footballer and had my name and appearance on this game I would have at least expected to be virtually represented as a footballer and not a circus clown.

Yes but millions of people love the game so I doubt they will lose any sleep over it, and they literally just promote it for money not cos they feel they want go be represented in a good way

So, Ivan Toney is not in the game due to his gambling ban.

Yet the biggest mode on the game actively promotes gambling.

Do EA understand the meaning of ironic?

Since Fortuna Düsseldorf has it's real stadium in the game, it is named Düsseldorf Arena. The real stadium name is Merkur Spiel-Arena though. Merkur is a gambling company with online betting, (online) casinos, slot machines, gambling halls etc.

In their reports from the beta, forum members wrote that now, when playing against CPU, they make crosses into the penalty area. Is this also the case in the full version?

I don't think even you, the great magician, can fix this, @saturator

Your work has been amazing, but the way the passes just ping from player to player, the way they instantly control the ball, the way they change direction quicker than the speed of light, and more, in my opinion it's just gone way beyond sliders now.

I will download the trial and try your sliders, but I'm not hopeful. Thanks for all your work.
Hi mate.
Thank you for your comment ,it's an honor to be called "the great magician"

I don't know how the videos are, but with the pad in my hand, the feeling is really great.
I feel the opposite : you need time to control the ball, the animation is more detailled.

The worst team to play is Manchester City because they are overpowered.

It was my first match and the rythme was great : slow.
Have you seen my video, England Vs France?

The crosses, the variety of the cpu, it's far far better than the last FIFA.

Try the 10 hours, and i hope you will enjoy it!

Played a few matches this morning. First of all it's better optimized on PC, FIFA 23 used to lag like hell even on menus on 1080p, I'm glad they gave us more graphics settings to tweak such as grass and supporters to improve performance.

It's an improved 23, I've generally had fun so far. The defending still has issues with 1v1 especially when the COM starts nigh on indestructible ninja dribbling in the penalty area. Your defenders just can't keep up in that regard and non controlled defenders still drift away from the threat which makes player switching hopeless.

I also tried the game on slow and it seems defenders take even longer to wake up and respond which as been an issue on this game speed for a few entries.

The AI has been fun to play against and i've seen some clever moments like realistic cut back passes instead of mindlessly dribbling down the goalline and selfishly blasting it at the near post. I saw an AI striker actually feint my keeper and take it round him to score which I don't recall seeing in FIFA 23.

I agree the new commentary is really lame, at times it sounds like it's some kind of AI bot that procedurally generate random, vapid quips. It's an obvious regression even from the stale commentary we already had.

Presentation is fantastic, the menu's and sounds give me that new FIFA game feeling from back in the day.

Played two games.
Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal
Exeter 5-2 Oxford

The gameplay is slower and better than 23 and the much better keepers help keep the scores down.
But it is essentially the same game with a couple of tweaks, but nothing major.
Sure it will be patched to become faster in the next month or so.

I might try career mode once Aranutku releases his mods, but otherwise another year without a footy game to play.

Yeah just played trial version today.. the moment where cpu received the ball and knocked the ball forward to sprint is not a situation my defender can catch.. mine needs to slowly accerelate first, lol.

Playing on slow paced setting, passing around feels good enough and cpu too ti look at.. until there is this sudden unrealistic speedy balll that kills the immersion.

Really enjoying the game. I enjoyed FIFA 23 though, so this is a definite upgrade. Some very subtle things are happening on the pitch. For one, the defensive line goes past the haflway line and actually support the attack and transition. The CDMs put pressure where they should and serve as an outlet when needed.

The defenders are so smart in possession. You can sense that hesitation of them wanting to build up. I've seen so many times where the defender looks like they will pass, and instead, they dribble into open space to look for a recipient.

The game definitely needs sliders though, and that's where a lot of my impressions are built off of. I won't bother with default impressions because it's just pointless. There is a really good game when the right values are put together.

Right. Where to start..

I have played few matches as part of my 10 hour trial. The good news is - Im planning to continue my trial this evening. With Fifa23 - I uninstalled the game after 2 hours of my 10 hour trial.

There is a very specific way I play football games. Its always Full Manual, its always lower Difficulty (proffessional or world class) and its always average/weak teams. So my thoughts will reflect these gaming conditions.

I dont think its as bad as people say. I actually think its much better than the last three Fifas. For starters - I played these few matches with default sliders, which was simply impossible for me to stomach last 3 years.. The only thing I changed was Match Speed to Slow Paced and User Power input slider up to 80, coz on Full Manual it takes ages to fill up the power bar.

Now - I hope none of ye have any hopes that this game pace will be preserved. I can guarantee you that by November we're gonna be looking at x3 the Speed we have now. at least.

What I liked:

- Presentation.
Removal of match intros is criminal. It should have never happened and they need to fix it ASAP. But everything else is awesome. I love the little stats that show on the pitch from time to time.
Like all the shots on goal - where they were from and where did they go. Brilliant. Really cool.

- Pace.
Mentioned above. Pace is really nice. Pity it will be gone by patch 2 at the latest.

- Basics.
I always say - Im not expecting miracles from a football game. I just want Basics.
It seems like, for the moment, those basics are there. I had fouls, I had cards, I had miss kicks, I had injuries.
Again - going by the usual EA trend - injuries and fouls will be gone by patch 2.

In general - it actually played quite well and i DID enjoy it...

BUT

And here's a very big BUT that will most likely prevent me from playing it when it comes to gamepass (coz Im definetely NOT buying it)

Its not professional football. Its not. This game does not reproduce professional football. And sliders are NOT going to fix this. Do you know what this game portrays? Over 35s League.
Its literally over 35s football. Where you have 11 players on the pitch, but nobody is arsed to run around. They are just waiting until the ball is close and make a move then. It looks and feels like players are not really bothered to play. Because they are hard coded not to interfere too much until the ball is close enough to sniff it. And when once every blue moon some player sticks their legs out and intercepts the ball - you are nearly saying to yourself - "jesus, mate, are you ok? did you not overstretched yourself there??"
Over 35s. Thats what this game is.

And if you are not bothered by being the only active player on your team and if you dont mind micromanaging everybody - there is a chance you will have a lot of fun there.
For me - football is a team sport. And I dont think this is the way to play it.

PS1. You can still run along the sideline from your penalty box up to the other penalty box unchallenged. They still havent fixed it. seems like as long as you are on the wing - nobody gives a fuck.🤷‍♂️

PS2. This is for Full Manual players only - I really like how they introduced locking to the target on Power Up. It used to be Early (when animation starts) or Late (when you kick the ball). Both were awkward..
On the Power Up feels more like PES. You pick your target - power up, and then you can think about your next step, without worrying that your pass will change direction last second.
Great addition!

Will have more games tonight and see if I have any more thoughts.

cheers!

I scored this Haaland like goal in online divisions. There are bunch of new animations but they would be more meaningful if we could play this game at normal pace.

First couple of years of FUT it was great, no buying coins, you actually had "sticker albums" to put all the players/badges in you collect which was really fun to complete, then greed took over and here we are, 100s of thousands of new gambling addicted children every year created by a morally bankrupt company counting the billions in revenues they make from addiction.
Even when you could buy points it was still fairly decent until Ea decided to introduce Price ranges and got rid of trades because how dare us not giving ea £££ to pack a good player

Glad to see another positive comment. It's a good game based on football rather than a good football game. There's a lot of fantastic animations a little moments & most importantly, it's great to play a game agaisnt AI that feels alive coming from PES 2021 where opposition feels like playing against terrified bots who are only happy turning around and passing backwards.

I feel like Pro/World Class are the better difficulties because the AI does less of the jerky dribbling and actually play passes when in dangerous areas, they tend to cross more on these difficulties too.
