Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

can anyone tell what is written on the ball in the 3rd pic on the WENB site.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Is it just me or that camera angle is indeed really nice?

I only know about the 360's cameras, so please don't flame me if it already exists on the PS2.... :)

PS: To all of you who insist on gameplay: Yes, gameplay is fundamental to the game, but immersion and realism is just as important. In fact, PES gameplay is so good because it mimics real football so well. Thus, graphics and physics are just as important, IMO.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

.....so again...is this the stuf that should rls on july 5th?
if so.....its realy sad.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Im still waiting for an OMG!!!! screenshot.

So far all ive seen is a bunch of tweaked 360 images. Give us something konami!!!

Also, i find it interesting that the images of the paused screen are in english, mainly because the game is translated usually after its complete, not at a pre beta stage... its all very confusing

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

yah man.....im still not kicked of my chair.
I realy not pleased fast, and these pics look kinda the 360 version to me :(

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Those screenshots certainly appear to be from the same engine as the 360 version. Even the dodgy piping around the bottom of the goal nets remains!!! - something i've never seen in real life but is in every single stadium in pro 360.....i have a feeling we are going to be blown away by the animation on pes2008, however there surely cant be any argument that the current stills we have seen are more than disapointing. with all these little touches and expected animations is pro becoming more like the old ISS. pro 360 felt closer to that than pes6 on ps2 imho.

hopefully im wrong - 95% of the reason i bought a ps3 was for pro...if it lets me down again i'm gonna start a next gen football kingdom petition!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

To all the gaylords out here:

- to the people who moan about the fact that graphics are not too much of an improvement over the last versions. Well, did you hounostly expect a revolution on graphics in such a short time and after you know that Konami never focus on graphics? Buy fifa then please.

I hate that prejudice that some people have about good graphics and FIFA. If I like eye-candy and good graphics, am i a FIFA fan? Get a life please... that is the way of reasoning of a 3 year child.

I think that just because we buy a 360/PS3/a good PC to play the game we deserve at least decent visuals...

And please don't start again with the gameplay argument. All of us know that it comes first, but does not mean we have to deal with mediocre graphics. The game is not specially a bargain, so Konami should make its job on this.

I don't want to start some kind of war here, just want to clarify some arguments that a guy here thinks is a universal and a 100% valid statement...

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

*yawn*

One of the most tiresome comments that I continually read from gamers.

Agree. When someones says "the game does not look good" another guy jumps and say "Get Fifa instead". What an argument...

And what the fuck is your point exactly? That's a natural fact.. you arsehole.[-X

Come on ,don't you understand english.I am black ,it used to hurt seeing black players having 100% black hands including palms ,now there is more detail and it's better. Please let's not insult each other on a game :mrgreen:

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

^:from "gamers"??

Maybe you meant fanboys....

The other tiresome comment: "If you don't like PES, don't buy it.". Go figure, as if they let us properly test the game beforehand and then make a decision...

And just in case someone uses the argument: A feature-locked, 5 minutes demo is not enough. They already sold several 360 versions with that kind of demo, and the latter dissapointment with game features has been gigantic.

I've already commented about (Post #2299 in this thread).

Find me a photo from a professional team with broken chunks of metal being used to anchor the net.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

there wont be a winning eleven anymore...now konami will make only 1 version of the game ( PES2008) for japan, europe and america. it will be the same game for all the regions.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

I like that. No more profit with 3 different names when the game is the same.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/03/07)

Chill guys, I think Kouroux was meaning Konami had not just gone with the same skin tone all over, as they have with all players skin colours in the past, they have added more detail... I don't think there was anything else inferred Pepper63. He just didn't put it across very well! (I hope not anyway)

Thanks man,my point is that Konami didn't separate the tone colour skin from the palms and now they just did it that's all.If I didn't properly expressed my idea then I apologise to everyone here.
Peace and Love

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

I hope Konami will release a demo, let's say, at least 2 weeks before release date. Altough I think it wont happen.
I dont understand why last year Konami didnt release a demo. It's a shame, IMHO.
Any SH believing in his games should release a demo.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

As a response to some people who where asking if the teamvision would only enhance the defending team here is a qoute from the konami press release (ok i cant find out how to make text bold, so just read carefully to see what i mean):

Key to PES 2008 is a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision. Unique to the Konami game, Teamvision is a sophisticated AI programming that learns and adapts according to an individual’s style of play. As such, it will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements and previous attacking or defensive errors, ensuring games are more in line with the tactical but flowing nature of the real thing.

With the Pro Evolution Soccer series renowned for its fluid, realistic gameplay, the new game builds on the implementation of Teamvision with additional key advances. As with previous releases since its inception in 1996, the ball is again treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.

Sounds like the cpu still cheats then.

If they're claiming that the ball already was a separate entity in previous versions of PES, given the way it esentially scripts itself around the pitch in these earlier versions, nearly every defelction going straight to a cpu player, the laughable balloon shots, the ridiculous slow passes that your guys do. None of that stuff followed the laws of physics. The ball may well be a separate entity, but if it doesn't actually behave like one, then it's just rhetoric.

And I think one of the points being made about TeamVision was that it does not seem to be of any aid to your team. Once again, you take to the pitch with 10 headless chickens on your team. Meanwhile, the cpu has TeamVision scripting away on it's behalf as the storyline of the match unfolds in pre-determined fashion.

Seabass said last year that PES6 was already nearly next-gen AI. So it follows that PES2008 isn't much ahead of that.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Hi guys.

Jumping late on the bandwagon, but here I am. I was able to get the pictures last night, I'd been waiting for these for quite a while - as most of us had been - and I was able to sleep over them...

Long post ahead:

My first feeling was disappointment. Not because of the quality - I really am not badly impressed by the way the game looks so far, and I'm not going into arguments about it. I was disappointed because I expected a lot of new info and new screens. Most of the info was really stuff we already knew - damn you Adonis, Suff and TG for always getting us the most up to date info :P Really, we have all been victims of the marketing of those bastards in PSM3 - we all fell for it. Luckily we got the scans, so there'll be no way I'm going to buy that magazine now, I feel tricked. And I won't be surprised if PES2008 is NOT on the DVD for next months' issue, honest. Their business is selling mags, and they're doing a great job marketing that...

To the guys who are dissing Adonis and Suff and whatever. I don't like to repeat much of what's been said, but I'm going to do it 'cause I think that they really deserve it, and for the 4/5 years I've been in PES communities - I'm a mod at the portuguese PES.COM.PT community, and sort of a co-founder - I've seen this a lot and it really pisses me off. People always have this feeling that others owe them stuff. People always have a feeling that others have a duty of giving them what they want, when they want, and the way they want. In my home community this happened anytime a new Option File or patch was in the works. People always asking "when is it going to be out?" and saying "X is not the way I want/is not out yet, so you guys are all liars/clowns/incompetent"...

Honestly: the same way that patch makers don't have any moral obligation to share their patches with others (they could make it for their personal use only...), Adonis and Suff don't have it either. These guys could keep their info to themselves, and they'd be the only privileged guys in this situation. They are using their free time to record podcasts - even when there's nothing huge concerning news - because they want to share stuff with us. They tell us what their contacts tell them --- it's a gift, for crying out loud! You don't need to take it. These guys are doing this whole gig out of love for the uniform - and my respect and admiration for that. Honest. I wouldn't like to be in their shoes because, as someone said before, they have to take all the criticism that's directed to konami. Keep up the great effort, and congrats on going .com .

Continuing a bit on the info Adonis and Suff are getting us, though, I must advise to take it with a bit of caution. Remember: Suff and Adonis are regular guys like us. They don't have anything to profit from this, and they are in regular contact with Konami's PR. In my honest opinion, I doubt that the graphics will change that much from what we're seeing right now. Not that I don't want them to - and the same applies to PS3 being better or the same as XBox360. The truth is: everything they know comes from PR. Remember this. It is their job to hype their products - and, most probably, even though they might not make it with devious intentions, the truth is that they are so involved with their game everyday that whenever they look at it they can't see anything wrong with it. Take it from someone who also develops software. It takes someone from the outside to point out the flaws - and be pretty harsh about them.

From experience, though, I know that everytime something comes out there'll be:

- The haters
- The fanboys
- The lovers
- The humble
- The indifferent
and the rest. That's a day job.

My advice is to take the info with a grain of salt, don't get your hopes up. If the game surpasses our expectations, great. If it doesn't, at least you won't be as disappointed. I can tell that Adonis believes what he's saying - and that's the only thing that makes me want to believe it too.

Side note to Jack Bauer: kudos for trying to get us more info on that meeting. I remember you being here since ever. I can tell that you are not a FIFA or PES fanboy, you are just someone who wants to play a good game of soccer - and you get pretty harsh criticism from both sides in the end :P Keep it up.

There will be a couple of long weeks ahead. Looking forward to JLWE2007CC (speaking of which, there should be scans today - the GameStation mag comes out today...).

Cheers, and once again, thanks for all the info and opinions - to all.

Paulo Tavares

One of the most intelligent posts I have read and I agree 100% with you.
I have to add that maybe this game will not live up to people's expectations, but I do know that this game will definitely be the best football game out o every system. FIFA hasn't been good since it's inception on Genesis and this remark is coming from an American. People can complain about the graphics and what Konami have left out and what not, but the fact remains that WE/PES is hands down the only football game out there to play. Unless you enjoy playing a game that feels like you're kicking a beachball.
Anyway, great post and please everyone, respect what Adonis and Suff are doing here for the community. This is such a great gift they are giving us and people shouldn't give them shit.

Because Fifa bought their licenses.

really? but those players are just fake players with a name that sounds like a real player. how can EA have rights to names? especially when they are last names.

Actually, I have always wondered myself that too! I remember Ximenes (not Ximeles), Miranda (not Minanda), Espinas (not Espimas), Matt (not Macco), Ivanov (not Ivarov), Valery (not Valeny), Cecil and not Ceciu... Those were the days!

Once, in a drunken night out with friends, the stupid thought that maybe, just MAYBE, somewhere inside Konami there was this dialog explained everything...

Lawyers - "Sir, what is this 'Master League' team we have here in the final team list?"
Developers - "Humm, it's a team of made up players, for the game."
L. - "Yes, but I don't see no license for a "Master League" team in the final list..."
D. - "Humm... No. As I said they are made up players, we just..."
L. - "Well, I'm sorry, but we are going to have to rename them then..."
D. - "But, you see... they don't exist. They are made up."
L. - "Well... Yes, but, do YOU have the license for the names of these created players...? We don't want no lawsuits here, now do we?"...

...

Either that, or the fake names are created by an automatic name changer (which substitutes "n"s for "m"s, and that kind of stuff) for the unlicensed teams, and it happens to be going through the ML original team...

Cheers,

Paulo Tavares

P.S. - (Bonus points for those who remember an Option File/patch in the PSOne days, WE2000 I believe, where the guys were renamed to Schumacher, Nokia, and similar stuff... Rings a bell to anyone? :) ).

[edit] Darn, Lami came up earlier than me with the licensing issue :)

FIFA couldn't buy the licenses for names that Konami made up, that's ridiculous. :D

I think they just fancied a change or a closer translation from the Japanese names, who knows.

Had a chat with my old friend (you can call him my "contact" if you think it sounds more professional ;)) a few hours ago, PES 2008 was mentioned. I'll post the conversation in a few minutes, when I've written it all out. But you're not going to like it.

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
funniest quote so far!!! What on earth are you talking about?? everyone knows that pes6 360 version is the WORST one to date. I had it but was so pissed off with it I sold my 360 to stop me losing my sanity playing such a crap, stilted farce of a game. True the graphics are slightly better than the ps2 version, but again gameplay must always rule over graphics not the other way round.

shilam0unainai - either you are one deluded guy who doesnt actually "get" what console footy games are about, or you are just a sad attention seeker.
Oh, just rememberedm you were the one that posted the idea that PES 2008 will have changing weather in, and will improve gameplay?!!!!

sorry mate but for one who plays pes & fifa u cannot talk and really u dont have a clue believe me .i've been playing this game as many ppl for 10 years from the very beginning so at least i know what im saying so shut up and go to bed bot.
