What do you mean Thomas?

Here a picture we saw from PSM3 but in better quality.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

The in-game shot is (for me) the worst picture so far. The graphics look very shoddy but it is only because it is an early pic and it is not in motion.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

why will tey not make the grass look better. it is so frustrating. Even the player models look the same as before, this is supposed to be next gen, it looks like a patched version on pes6.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Scorpio where you find this picts ?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Hi guys.

Jumping late on the bandwagon, but here I am. I was able to get the pictures last night, I'd been waiting for these for quite a while - as most of us had been - and I was able to sleep over them...

Long post ahead:

My first feeling was disappointment. Not because of the quality - I really am not badly impressed by the way the game looks so far, and I'm not going into arguments about it. I was disappointed because I expected a lot of new info and new screens. Most of the info was really stuff we already knew - damn you Adonis, Suff and TG for always getting us the most up to date info :P Really, we have all been victims of the marketing of those bastards in PSM3 - we all fell for it. Luckily we got the scans, so there'll be no way I'm going to buy that magazine now, I feel tricked. And I won't be surprised if PES2008 is NOT on the DVD for next months' issue, honest. Their business is selling mags, and they're doing a great job marketing that...

To the guys who are dissing Adonis and Suff and whatever. I don't like to repeat much of what's been said, but I'm going to do it 'cause I think that they really deserve it, and for the 4/5 years I've been in PES communities - I'm a mod at the portuguese PES.COM.PT community, and sort of a co-founder - I've seen this a lot and it really pisses me off. People always have this feeling that others owe them stuff. People always have a feeling that others have a duty of giving them what they want, when they want, and the way they want. In my home community this happened anytime a new Option File or patch was in the works. People always asking "when is it going to be out?" and saying "X is not the way I want/is not out yet, so you guys are all liars/clowns/incompetent"...

Honestly: the same way that patch makers don't have any moral obligation to share their patches with others (they could make it for their personal use only...), Adonis and Suff don't have it either. These guys could keep their info to themselves, and they'd be the only privileged guys in this situation. They are using their free time to record podcasts - even when there's nothing huge concerning news - because they want to share stuff with us. They tell us what their contacts tell them --- it's a gift, for crying out loud! You don't need to take it. These guys are doing this whole gig out of love for the uniform - and my respect and admiration for that. Honest. I wouldn't like to be in their shoes because, as someone said before, they have to take all the criticism that's directed to konami. Keep up the great effort, and congrats on going .com .

Continuing a bit on the info Adonis and Suff are getting us, though, I must advise to take it with a bit of caution. Remember: Suff and Adonis are regular guys like us. They don't have anything to profit from this, and they are in regular contact with Konami's PR. In my honest opinion, I doubt that the graphics will change that much from what we're seeing right now. Not that I don't want them to - and the same applies to PS3 being better or the same as XBox360. The truth is: everything they know comes from PR. Remember this. It is their job to hype their products - and, most probably, even though they might not make it with devious intentions, the truth is that they are so involved with their game everyday that whenever they look at it they can't see anything wrong with it. Take it from someone who also develops software. It takes someone from the outside to point out the flaws - and be pretty harsh about them.

From experience, though, I know that everytime something comes out there'll be:

- The haters
- The fanboys
- The lovers
- The humble
- The indifferent
and the rest. That's a day job.

My advice is to take the info with a grain of salt, don't get your hopes up. If the game surpasses our expectations, great. If it doesn't, at least you won't be as disappointed. I can tell that Adonis believes what he's saying - and that's the only thing that makes me want to believe it too.

Side note to Jack Bauer: kudos for trying to get us more info on that meeting. I remember you being here since ever. I can tell that you are not a FIFA or PES fanboy, you are just someone who wants to play a good game of soccer - and you get pretty harsh criticism from both sides in the end :P Keep it up.

There will be a couple of long weeks ahead. Looking forward to JLWE2007CC (speaking of which, there should be scans today - the GameStation mag comes out today...).

Cheers, and once again, thanks for all the info and opinions - to all.

Paulo Tavares

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

I think the biggest things that are missing are textures to give evertything a little more detail. I think when they fix that, hopefully in the next build, less people will complain about the graphics. So cmon konami I beliiieeeve.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

I am busy can't quite read the posts.....is the picture above from the 360 version or the new PS3 version? because it looks identical to the 360 to me.

back to work, I have a deadline and I am closer to be dead than to the line.....

I see no more "square nets", there are only hexagonal ones since PES 6 on 360...Why ?!?!? Many English stadiums use square nets...I know it's not important but i think it wouldn't be hard to add this feature...I noticed some pics with coach in the gameplay screen....It means that in PES2008 we are gonna see Coaches with their own appereance ?? What do you know about these questions "Sir. Thomas" ?? I adress to you because I respect YOUR opinion....(sorry for my english..)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

@damian: To my eyes the grass looks gorgeous? What exactly is wrong with it?

With team vision in mind, maybe this time around the strategic layer of the game will be all the more important. Things will not go as easy as before and the game will feel more 'heavy' because of this. At least, that is what I am hoping for.

As for the menu design, I like the no-nonsense approach and also the glassy feel of the player name bars.

But perhaps im too positive ;) But thats because I never expected wonders to begin with, I mean cmon, its Konami, im already ecstatic that they finally, finally fired the 'drunken lawnmower'.

*edit*

btw.

Lets not forget that everyone is entitled to their opinion. And those opinions are probably not all too different. In our experience with this series we all have gathered a pretty good idea of the flaws and good points of this game. If someone is upset about the graphics, it does not mean he is not appreciating the gameplay, or vica versa.
So lets respect eachother, we share the same passion/hobby/love. Its rather pointless to go and attack another user of this board. Its ok for people to be mad. Sometime u need to vent some frustration towards Konami for neglecting to adjust some of the most basic things and instead coming up with a new training mode or a fan in pub cutscene.

So that would be for some of us our main fear at this point. Konami is know for tackling one thing at a time, so if their focus this time is on presentational 'gimmicks', then what about next-gen ingame graphics and AI which was promised to the fans?

I personally think PES will absolutely not disappoint. And the reason that only minor info is spread is the upcoming release of WEJL2007. As a company you do not want this game to be ignored because people are saving up for a PS3+WE11.

But I understand everyone's worries and frustrations. There is a big communicational and cultural gap between us and Japan. Things would be allot easier if KCET was an Western company. But the question is: would it be as good a game as it is now?

Anyway, please be a bit cool guys, its very sad that some long time members leave this site because all this nibbling.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

These pics are actually much better than the ones KONAMI released with the official announcement.

Much better, yet still very very.... current-gen.

Thank you very much mate, it's nice to know that some people have been here long enough to understand that I'm not negative about something just because I get any "joy" out of it, and that I just want a perfect game like everybody else.

At the end of the day there's things that both games could add that would improve them so much that the difference would be immense - small things, as well (the ability to change teams in the ML in PES, better controller response times in FIFA, the ability to control the CPU team when you're playing a mate in BOTH games). I just get so frustrated that things like that are overlooked and instead we get a pub mode and unlockable dog heads, and unfortunately a lot of people respond to that frustration with "enjoy the game or shut up", "your opinions aren't valid because they're always negative" etc., which I find disheartening.

Anyway, I'm seeing my old friend this afternoon so we'll see if he has anything to say.

I think the nets look more flexible not like a cage, about the coach i don't know yet but i hope wee can edit the faces, body, cloths and tranfer it ;)

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

The coach and subs seem to use the same low-poly models as the crowd.

Which is very disappointing. If you look at the 'extras' around the side of the track in Motorstorm, the graphics are amazing. The people at the side of the road in Gran Turismo HD are rendered in at least 20-times higher resolution than those players on the bench and the manager.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Let me be the first to say (I don't remember anyone else saying this at any earlier point in the thread), it's a beta, wait until the final version. ;)

Seriously, you never know, they may have done them quickly just for the purposes of the screenshots. There's no crowd behind the subs bench either, and if they're not there in the final version, I will laugh my head off.

Yeah but I think it's too late to change these kind of things, this is the only game where people say wait for the final version. I guess the only thing that they could adjust in the folowing build is the lightening and the textures.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

As a response to some people who where asking if the teamvision would only enhance the defending team here is a qoute from the konami press release (ok i cant find out how to make text bold, so just read carefully to see what i mean):

Key to PES 2008 is a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision. Unique to the Konami game, Teamvision is a sophisticated AI programming that learns and adapts according to an individual’s style of play. As such, it will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements and previous attacking or defensive errors, ensuring games are more in line with the tactical but flowing nature of the real thing.

With the Pro Evolution Soccer series renowned for its fluid, realistic gameplay, the new game builds on the implementation of Teamvision with additional key advances. As with previous releases since its inception in 1996, the ball is again treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.

I noticed the lack of crowd too, so it makes me believe (or is that hope?) that this is a beta version. I think the pic of the players on the field is very, very worrying as the graphics look awful.

But I firmly believe we will all be pleasantly surprised when we see some moving code.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

Another question, where is the ball in that pic? Everyone seems to be looking in different directions.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

the pics looks ok.......but shit still looks like the gay ass 360 version....this is the 360 version or PC....personaly i think NOTHING of is out yet for the ps3....and yes i think the PS3 version wil be exclusive;)

Technically 'Beta' means feature complete by the way. Graphics etc wouldn't change after that point - it's just a case of bug fixing from then on. Saying that, I seriously doubt PES2008 has reached the Beta stage yet.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

...and just to answer charlievolano: to my knowledge they are either PC or PS3 pictures, judging by the 1080p resolution... I tried resampling them to 720p, just to see if they weren't lower resolution shots upscaled, but apparently not.

[edit]

Just spicying up things a bit...

What do you people make of a dedicated option in the menu called... "Fix cursor"? ;) I mean, previously you would fix the cursor in the player settings menu... Do you think that there'll be a special focus on playing with only one player, such as... the fantasista mode coming to the next-gen versions? :) (ok,ok,i know... wishful thinking).

This time it seems black players will have their hand palms different than the colour of their skin :mrgreen: .
And what the fuck is your point exactly? That's a natural fact.. you arsehole.[-X

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

I just wanted to say this TeamVision mode sounds really familiar.

Hell, WE has had the adaptive AI for years now. And the way this it's stated, it is the exact same thing as before - the AI learns and changes their playing style based on the player input.

KONAMI's run out of ideas so they're pulling some stunts out of their ass to market the next-gen version. I still love them though.
