Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 09/06/07)

Well in PES6 it was improved, im talking of the PS2 version at least, I can actually perfectly stand by this aswell, Ive been playing a fix player master league with a mate, it is pretty awesome, anyway, I play AMF and he plays DMF, he runs about all over the place, his stamina is gone at half time and he gets much slower, his player stat stamina is 94 aswell, mine must be about 86 and I play more of a run, into space, get ball and then release, not too much and have about half, so its perfect, in the enxt match, he has higher accumulated fatigue aswell, but not by much, due to his higher stamina and conditioning aswell.

But when you play normal, all the staminas are similar as you arent always running with the one, but it is pretty much spot on, in my point of view :D

Ok cool that's good to know, it bugged me that in PES I can hold down the sprint button with players and they can run for 45 mins all over the pitch at full sprint which just isn't realistic at all, even the most athletic footballers in real life with great stamina have to regulate the amount of time they sprint and choose the optimum moments.....

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 09/14/07)

I despise liars of all kinds, saying "Rooney and Ronaldo look nothing like real life in Fifa" is nothing more than a lie intended to belittle certain people and make certain people feel good and important, it's not an "opinion" saying such things which are blatantly untrue it's a lie and liars cannot be condoned.

Ironic, coming from someone who slagged off Owen's likeness in PES 2008 and praised a picture of Steven Gerrard in FIFA 08 looking rather simian.

As for the Japanese name, was saying all along it'd be Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, just as they did for America last year, they'll drop the "Winning Eleven" title for 2009.

Not to get into this, but wasnt placebo talking about the lighting on Owen's arms as opposed to how his face looks?

Actually, ill leave the thread......Placebo, maybe you should aswell mate.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 09/14/07)

this is bullshit. fifa has 360 movement. play the demo and stop talking fanboy blabla

No...he's right. FIfa 08 has 8-way movement. Like PES2008, it is cleverly disguised, but it's still there.

FIFA has 8-way movement when a player is in control of the ball. WHen off the ball (and if you have configured it) the players will move with 360 control.

Also longpasses are analog aim, and such.

The reason they haven't yet moved to analog control for the ballcarriers is that it takes added animations for turning etc when you can turn in almost any direction, and you need to work that out properly for it not to look "off" (It is one thing when moving off the ball, but when you also need to manipulate the ball in analog angles while running it needs some work).

I suspect that to be the next step for FIFA though.

Meanwhile PES doesn't even have analog aim for Longballs (which doesn't require any new animations, just support for the analog stick aim and that's it). Lazy in my humble opinion. :/

fifa is the definition of lazy. lazy ball physics, lazy player face modeling, lazy representation of football.

Well, ballphysics are more advanced than PES afaik. The ball will get the proper spin when hit off-centre, and it is a completely separate entity.

In PES the ball starts spinning before it has been struck, and I've seen players hit the ball even though their leg was nowhere near it.

Not saying that FIFA doesn't have the mentioned problems, but PES definitely needs improvement. I haven't seen PES2008 videos detailed enough to see if they have sorted out the "spin" problem. But from videos it is clear that players still manipulate the ball wihtout actually touching it with their boots (the C Ronaldo heel flick video on WENB shows him not actually touching the ball with his foot).

lazy player face modeling

Ironic. In Fifa they've actually created 3d models of the players faces, which is the most time consuming un-lazy way to do it, and due to the intrinsically artistic nature of it, is why some likenesses are closer than others.

Konami on the other hand are the ones who've done the player likenesses the "lazier" way, by creating face textures from 2d photos of players and folding that over the same 3d mesh for every player. Yes it often does mean the player likenesses are closer, but it's about as un-next gen a way to develop games in the actual artistic outcome as you can possibly imagine. But then PES on next gen doesn't really have a style that cries out next gen, perhaps when we all get our grubby mitts on the demo it will "feel" a next gen title, which at the end of the day is all that matters is it not?

So accuse Fifa by all means of things that are true, but saying that modelling the faces is lazy, when if you knew something about game design you'd know it's actually the opposite, just makes you look silly.

I'd like to ask what "lazy representation of football" of football means, to discuss both sides of that, but unfortunately it seems almost impossible to discuss content of the two games without it being a case of one side making accusations at the other, it's unfortunate but obviously we all contribute in our own ways to such a brittle situation, whilst we may each think we're less guilty than the other it doesn't make much difference.

Personally I'm sorry that it's reached a point where everything I say is read as a direct and personal insult to fans of PES, I spent many happy years playing PES, discussing PES, sharing information and editing stuff about PES and now I'm satan, truly upsetting for anyone who cares.

See the thing I don't get about PES2008 is simple. Seabass said last year they'd have been working on the next gen version for 18 months. Now I'll assume he means up to, say, now, in prep for the first ps3 version. That means 18 months ago, there was a conversation like this:

SB: Alright guys, what should we develop for the next gen!?
First advice giver: Definitely build a new engine in resopnse to Fifa's, they're still crap but they might get it right, and with all the power of the 360/PS3 we'd be able to revolutionise football gaming!
SB: Shut up stupid, we all know my beautiful sim is perfect, and has been since PES3. What I think we should do is add some animations, fix a couple oddities and then my perfection will be even more perfect!

Second advice giver: Okay, well if we're not going to get a new engine, we'll ahve to completely overhaul the rest of the game. Better league options, better presentation, more tournaments and of course a master league that is actually enthralling to play.
SB: What do you mean, everyone loves the master league! And I was thinking, what if we added how the fans spend their saturdays in the pub as well! Think of the possiblities. And no one really wants more than 18 teams in the league anyway, who cares about those teams that fall down each year into some other league no one cares about that!

Third advice giver: Alright, well clearly Seabass you're focused purely on the online experience, as you cant' believe the single player will be satisfied with nothing new. So we'll have full 11 on 11 online matches, across consoles, and redefine sports gaming!
SB: What is with you and your stupid ideas! Of cousre not! We will keep it just the same as the current gen! Haven't you seen how many copies my perfect game sold last year!

Fouth advice giver: So, erm, Lord Seabass, what exactly are we going to do for the next 18 months sir?

Seabass: Do you have any idea how many f*cking faces we need to get into this game! I want them PERFECT!!!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 09/14/07)

Well well well, i hope this is all part of the foreplay: calling names, say dirty things to eachother, comparing fifa to pes (which is no use)..

25th october rule!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - Discussions Thread (Last Update 09/14/07)

Stop fucking lying Placebo, the whole face shape is the problem people have with FIFA's faces. Just let it go!

What is he lying about, he challenged a poster for calling Fifa lazy, when in fact they use more time & resource intensive procedures than PES.

It's not important, Nick and I took the discussion to PM :)

Edit: to bring things a little further back on topic, sometime ago someone mentioned that "Seabass thinks the ML is perfect" and that's the reason there's been no ML updates since PES3, obviously as most people know the primary reason I 1. bitch about PES and 2. look forward to Fifa are down to the abysmally shallow career mode in PES' ML, the question I ask is does anyone have an English translation of the interview where Seabass talks about that? Does he really think/say it's perfect or is that a paraphrase?

Actually I'd imagine Fifa to be more like being on a pornset.

Yeah you get to shag a good looking bird (licenses), but you're surrounded by blokes telling you to keep an erection (fanboys saying "but...but...licenses!") and the experience will more than likely leave you with an STD (not a metaphor)
