Ultimate Fighting Championship (Xbox 360, PS3)

So it's not in the game?!?! I find that so stupid!

Why do I HAVE TO create some random fuck and take him up? why can't I be Karo Parisyan let's say and have him fight the likes of GSP/Matt hughes and Matt serra and make him the Welterweight champ with training, sparring, etc. ?

It's nice to have over 80 fighters, but suddenly if u can only use them in exhibitions or online rights, then it's worth a lot less. (to some of us more than others of course)

And considering career mode is always a big issue to me and online play not so much, I'm very disappointed and as great as the game is, now am not happy with my $80 purchase as I was before!

Played a game online, really laggy. The ONLY thing he did was high kicks and I can't believe I lost it... I took him down a couple of times but the ground play is pretty hard when it is laggy.

Yeah me too, I had a guy like that last night Gab. It wasn't majorly laggy but there was definitely lag there. Most of his kicks I just caught and took him down :SMUG:. Ref stopped in the 2nd round after I had knocked him down then was standing over him punching his face in.

I didn't even know how to catch punches and kicks till you said earlier Tim thanks for the tip :)

i might go through bits of the tutorial again for counters and what not

Oh can people not post results about last nights event in here, thanks :)

Yeah, if you wanna talk about last nights event then use spoilers. Do that by putting
before the text and then
after, leaving the spaces out .

Also there is a thread for it anyway ;)

just covering all bases though

Had an attempt at Randy Couture. I hate the nose but you're stuck with that style of nose if you want to have the larger jaw line. The other face types all have very pointy thin jaw lines.

How are people coping with the ground stuff, 95% of the matches that I have lost in career mode is because I can't get out when the AI player is sitting on my chest and pounds me to death. It is starting to become annoying, I have got my created players ground defence skills upto 45 but this has little or no affect. I have done the tutorial and that was fine but in a real live match situation I just can't do it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also would be happy to participate in any online (360 version) tournament that you guys have.

Yeah I played this one guy in career mode and every kick or punch he'll take you down. So annoying that I don't really want to play career mode any more.

I try to just use the roll when in that position, don't know if you can grab his hand to do a submission, probably not. But even when you manage to roll out of that position and you have the guy behind you it's hard to get away.

Ground play isn't that fun to me, I trained a lot so I can do it offencive style but it's just so scripted. Standing up and punching/kicking is dynamic and somewhat physics based, that's what is so great about it. But when you're on the ground it's just about timing movements and it always looks the same. Feels so arcady to me.

you should pull them into your guard or you can try and grab there arm for a triangle choke. Its not easy though, I have lost where the CPU has hit me twice and knocked me clean out.

Just block until you can time a transition its pretty simple really

I sent a message to a guy after he quit and he sent one back saying "stand up and fight next time jackass" so i sent him one back saying if you wanna stand up buy a boxing game you twat

Take it he knows fuck all about MMA

What's the AI like? Does it play a realistic game or is it robotic at all?

Probably wont play online much, especially with everyone quitting and lag issues, so career mode is pretty big for me.

The AI seems pretty good to me, only played on advanced. Seems a little cheaty though when playing against someone who only makes takedowns. If you try to kick or hit they always takes you down it seems.

Career mode needs alot of work its good start to game overall as fighting goes there is not much needed to make it better then it is.

As for difficulty Advanced gives good challenge and still got Expert to play with overall AI decent but still needs work.

Dunno if I'm the first to say as I havent read all the opinions, but jury is out on this for me at the moment.

Technically its very good, but I think its pretty dull to play. The demo was really exciting, but the career mode is painfully dull while you build up your stats. I manage my stamina well, but still havent got the power to knock anyone out, so its just a stand-up slug fest with punches landing but having no effect.

If I take it to the ground I cannot submit anyone and the whole thing feels like a chore to play.

I know its because my stats are low, but all the same (in real life) if you were at that level of MMA, you would be able to knock people out or get the odd submission. Its like chucking a kid off the streets in the octagon with no muscle power etc.

May sell this on in the coming week.

Yeah thats the thing you go in with Muay Thai discipline yet you have to get to level 2 before can do headkicks. Not to mention takes ages for training camp to show up from start so your pretty much just hanging on through the first few fights and lucky to get win. I play on advanced because i object to play on anything below on career easy yet with stats you start with its pretty impossible if caught in mount to reverse i find.

I done 2 career so far one i retired early wasnt happy with fighter but second one turned out worse i finished it 18-21. I can reverse fine with normal fighters in exibition but in career from full mount despite ground grapple being 80 it done bugger all to help im not sure if i need to get to bjj level 2 or what.

Also another gripe is age thing and 7 year stop its ok for this game as im falling asleep after 5 years rinse repeat it gets boring. As for age im 22 7 years on and im still 22 just zaps realism away if ask me tbh the menu style feels like old ps2 games needs alot more work and interaction.

I'm sorry to hear that pbb, I do know what you mean. You can knock people out, it's all about timing and finding the openings. Unfortunately, this comes with experience and practice; I know it's a bit of a cliché, but it really is the case of picking your moments when to strike. Also, keep at a proper distance, if you're too far away they'll always go for the takedown or big knock out just stay in range. The dodge punch is very effective at this distance (:l1:+:square: or :l1:+:triangle:) and stepping tends to find wholes in the guard and catches many fighters out. Also, try keeping your guard mostly high and wait for the opportunity when they're gassed or have thrown a number of punches that have missed.

I agree that it sucks that you can't use a 'known' fighter in career mode, I'd love to take someone like Frank Mir and dominate the division. Overall, after my first career mode as a Heavyweight I don't feel that excited about coming back and going through it all again. I think it's good that you have to build your fighter up with stats and of course you're going to have your fair share of wins and losses against the best in the division. However, the tasks are rather boring. They could have made it more interesting building up your strength and stamina with mini games or whatever and they could of added more variety to the sparring exercises. All in all career mode definitely lacks depth and I think I can only bring myself to bother doing another one by starting a career in complete contrast to my last. This time instead of trying to build a strong warrior in Kimbo Slice I'm going to go for a submission expert and create Babbalu from here: http://forums.ufc-caf.com/index.php?topic=323.0. After this, I don't think I'm going to bother again. Been there, done that and all.

I think the 'action' side of the game is very exciting, and at the moment this is what is making me keep it until FN4 comes out. I'm still very satisfied knocking people out or submitting people after spending time wearing them down, but sometimes I do feel that I've been there and done it all before in some matches. Also, sometimes the AI can be predictable, even on Advanced/Expert. I have a feeling this game may also end up being sold on in a few weeks once the shine has gone.

Yeah I'm having fun with the game but only in short bursts. If I play too many matches it gets a bit samey and I find myself going through the motions. I'll play a few fights then go back to burn zombie burn then back to ufc then back again. Thankfully I got it free and inFamous is looking a lot more tempting now to give me something of variety, especially with that uncharted beta.

I bought it knowing it would be great fun for me, I think you lot need to play some multiplayer, Thats the reason I bought the game, comes into its own when you play another human (without the lag) especially when you stun the oppenent or daze them and the room gets louder and louder! :DD

Haven't even bothered with Career mode yet, I'll start one soon though, I think I think if they can sort the lag out then I'll be keeping this until another serious fighter can compare which doesn't look anytime soon.

I have started career as a lightweight and I wish you could move up through the divisions as I honestly cannot see myself doing another career mode as I am starting to find it dull also.

most of my fights are stand up as trying to submit the CPU is way harder than it should be. Getting kinda tiresome.

I know what you mean, I've started to feel a little bored of it already too. But it is possible to knock someone out early in your career, I knocked one out in my second game with a perfect right hook just maybe a minute into the round and got awarded for fight of the night, or knock out of the night or something like that.

Bored? With this? Never!! *superman punch*

Anyhoo, I was wondering how you fight when playing online? Do you let the fighter you choose decide your basic strategies or do you wait & see how your opponent fights and then adapt to whichever style he prefers?

I've recently noticed a fighting style online that a lot of people seem to be using (and I'm not judging if any of you use this too), namely that they back off, then rush in with a punch, usually, then back the f*ck off again. Repeat, repeat, repeat. I've started getting a grip on how to play against these people, but there seems to be so many of them and it makes for very lackluster fights.
