Ultimate Fighting Championship (Xbox 360, PS3)

I don't like how they're trying to review the game as a 'fighting' game or 'beat em-up' in the game category as Street fighter 4. The closing comment:

What a stupid immature comment.

Thats an awful statement, god Eurogamer really are shite.

Did you hear that story a while back about a terrible review they gave a game (sorry cannot remember what), and the devs wrote back saying that their server logs ALL activity in the game (think it was an MMO or something) and that the reviewer had played the game for like 2mins 10 seconds

I used to like Eurogamer, but I'm losing faith in most of the review sites (and Mags after Edge's escapades).

There's a wrestling game for the PC being made called PWX (Pro Wrestling X) and they send newsletters out each week with news on what they're up to and how the games coming along.
Ages ago now, there was a big kick off on a review site, i forget the name of the site but I'm sure the game was Assassins Creed or some Ubisoft title. It might have been that game where the lead charatcer was an indian guy and aliens came to earth and i cant remember the name of it but you could spin the gravity of the world around and walk up walls.
Whatever it was... The reviewer gave the game a shite score, then the developer cried and pulled their ads for the game that were next to the shitty review. The reviewer or whoever was fired and then suddenly a new review popped up with a higher rating.

Well... the newst letter had a link to an interview that the fired guy gave shortly after where he had explained how much he hated doing reviews and that there were tons of times where they had to write a review of a game based on videos and previews from other magazines without him getting to play the game AND that they had to promise to keep it positive and give the game a score of 8 or 9 out of 10. If they did that then they could have the first world exclusive review.

I've tried finding the link since to show someone who said that these reviewers opinions are much more valid than my opinion of any game. So I said that they're full of shit and brought that story up and he called me a bullshitter and blah blah. But someone must remember the story.

I have a friend who was playing the game last night on the PS3 who sent me this message

"They ruined the UFC game. They totally screwed up the ground game. It is not like the demo at all"

Any ideas what they're on about Coopz?

No idea tbh

The ground game is exactly the same for me, ask him what he thinks they have changed

I had 2 more great battles since my last post, One was a 5 round Title bout between me and Rampage with i eventually won by KO and the other was a 3 round fight with Forrest Griffin which was so back and forth it was unreal. It was just a battle for position on the ground for the best part of 3 rounds with loads of ground and pound and constant transitions and reversals. When he is in mount he is a bastard to shake off i tell ya, the thing was i didn't take any damage from it so lived to fight another round, i won that by a late KO from mount as well :)

Rashad Evans is beast playing against Anderson Silva on advanced and knocked him out in 30 secs.

I havnt lost with him yet i even had to put it up to Expert because wasnt even being challenged and on Expert i still won. Have to say it feels the difficulty is broken sometimes with opponents you face i mean all Silva did was block me shots was like he was stuck.

But anyway Career not doing to well playing on Advanced how you make it undefeated to title i dont know because stats you start with awful. But anyway my record stands at moment 10 wins 10 losses im in Heavyweight division and Eddie Sanchez chin is like concrete i cant break him down also my ground skills are poor cant transition properly.

I thought bringing up the load times were a stupid point as well. UFC for a start looks better than SF4 and you have more to select than just Ken or Ryu and a country to fight in. The demo shows how well they handle loading times so it all loads as you go through the menus and then the tale of the tape hides some of the load and then you;re ready to go.

Double post but worth bumping this up as a new message

On the subject of Title bouts in Exhibition mode

Once you set it to five rounds, on the next screen it shows the five champions...you then can choose to fight as them or against them. and after winning the title, dana white puts it around your waist which is a nice touch. so exhibition championships are in, and are what they should be.

Can anyone confirm this?

Hmmm... thought someone said that ANY 5 round fight was automatically a title fight, but the titles didnt change hands in exhibition mode...?

Ill try it now

just got a email and tracking code as well from ShopTo saying my order has been dispatched today

This is correct you can do title fight with anyone but it has to be 5 rounds.

Right for starters it always shows you the champions on the weight select screen no matter what you do.

But, putting it on 5 rounds automatically makes a title fight no matter what player you choose.

I just did Mir vs Lesner (who is the champ) and he KO'ed me but it said he was the new champ after the fight, the second fight was Nogueria vs Congo which was also for the belt even though neither is champ and it said Big Nog was the champion in the introductions and after i completely dominated Congo on the ground and won by triangle choke it said he (Nog) retained the belt

Both were presented with it by Dana White, so it seems whoever is player 1 is the Champion coming into the fight when its set to 5 rounds. Ill try 3 and see if it has the same effect

EDIT: 3 rounds wont be a title fight

On weight select screen its got Forrest under Light Heavyweight thats wrong its Rashad Evans who is current champion. Well its wrong if the list is going by the Champions by weight anyway its regardless whoever you select and if its 5 rounds its auto title fight.

I know i keep posting about these fights but i have just had another cracker

Matt Hughes vs Shaun Sherk

He pretty much dominated for the first 2 rounds with his relentless takedowns, takedown defence and his speed of punches. In the 3rd i came back into it and did a bit of ground and pounding after eventually getting him down but late on after getting back to the feet he gave me a big right hook which sent my screen grey but i carried on throwing punches regardless which put him on the back foot and i landed a stunning counter left hook with Hughes dipping under Sherks punch and catching him square on the jaw which sent him to the floor and i finished with punches while stood over him for a TKO with 16 seconds left :)

I wish i had recorded the fight

BTW when your a wrestler posturing up from guard is deadly plus he does a little slam to get there :)

There are 2 ways of stopping the fists if they've mounted you.

1 - on the ps3 you click your right stick in as they throw a punch and you will grab it. I can't remember if the 360 had a click in right stick button so it might be something else but i found that out in the training tutorials part of the demo.

Its tough to time right which leads to....

2 - If you're on your back and they on top of you hold L1 (or LB i assume) and rotate the right stick from say 12 o clock around and down to 6 in a half circle. your guy will reach up and grab their fist and pull them down.

It's much easier and works most of the time and then from there you can rotate the sticks around more to flip them over and mount them

But what if you are the guy on top and the opponent has his hands around your neck? how do you get out of it?

rotate the stick just the same as when you're on the offence to break the hold. it tell you all of this and more in the training menu in the demo

As for title fights in exhibition:

-Choose the fight to be 5 rounds, it'll be a title fight no matter who the fighters are.

-The guy in the red corner will always be the champion going in

-Afterwards, the winner is awarded the belt

-Buuut...the next time you play and choose someone else to be in the red corner, that person will be champion.

-So bring out pencil & paper to keep track of your champs!

sounds like your having fun

that wrestler slam when going from open guard down to posturing up is quality. the other slam from offensive sprawl is awsome to.

Im gonna start a list to see who's up for the UFC tournament on the 360, it wont be for another week or 2 but i just wanna get some numbers so we can see if its worth it.

Just copy the list below and add name onto the end each time if your interested.

Got the game this morning and all I can say is what a great game. There's loads to do and it's loads of fun and have had some cracking matches so far with Brock Lesnar online. I really need to work on my defence though; I've been submitted a few times this morning and didn't have any reply to it.

Still my record is pretty good to say I've only just started W6 D0 L3.

Good times people, good times.

Had a quick couple of fights after it just arrived. Liking the 'Legends' matches with all the build up and videos etc (and who the FUCK is Rachelle Leah!? What a hottie )...

Beat Liddell with Ortiz in a 4th round KO after a great back and forth.

Will play more later...

I'd be interested though I'll probably be useless! My copy arrived today, so I'm going to get practising over the weekend.

Just had my first online match

Griffin (me) vs Bisping

I came out from the bell and went to touch gloves and he smacked me in the chops

He was throwing combos and landing a few punches and he was stuffing my takedowns so i pulled guard, went into rubber guard and mounted to which he counted without taking any damage. After that i was timing my takedowns enough to take counter his punches and used a bit of ground and pound and he tried twice to sub me from the bottom which failed leaving him open for me to sub him with a kimora :)

Just had my second

Griffin (me) vs Rua

Cagey start with neither throwing a punch and us both going for a takedown at the same time which i got the better of and took him down. He tried a submission which i got out of into side control from there i went into mount and hammered him till the ref stopped it 1:04 seconds into the first round :)

5-0 now

3rd was a KO, 4th was a Kimura and the 5th was a Armbar :)

None of these fights have gone past the first round either, i'm loving how you have to change your style depending on who your fighting

My description is

Versatile
Brutal Ground and Pound
Exciting

love the variety of wins, i was worried online would be full of striking and most wins by KO. i'll be getting my copy saturday or monday now off my brother (play sent him 2 by mistake). can't wait.

question
if you take your CAF online can you search for similar stat players?

You can set to just fight CAFS only but i doubt you can search by stats

What you can do though is check there stats before you fight so you can pick and choose people with similar ratings

I'm 12-6 online now on the PS3, most matches end in the 3rd round. 9 of my wins have come by submission.

Had quite a fun (as in sad) match against someone who picked Anderson Silva, so I went with Rich Franklin. This guy just bombarbed me with punch after punch and kick after kick...

...naturally I blocked most of them and made him tap out a minute into the fight. Way to go, junior!
