Tottenham Thread

We need to at least give it all today, was a disgrace to see us against Le Arse last time out, seemed like we gave up playing football after going 2-0 up.

I can see Man U beating you today at White Hart Lane. If this does happen, beware, we're coming for you! I can almost smell St. Totteringham's Day coming again :D

I don't know what to say...it seems we're destined never to beat Man Utd. The big decisions always seem to go against us.

Even with the players we missed today, we seemed to play OK. You really need to take your chances against the Utd, City. We didn't, they did to devastating effect.

Think we need to look to the FA Cup 5th Round replay on Wednesday now. Win that, hopefully gather some momentum again and hope for a good result at Everton. Remember the last time we lost back-to-back PL matches, we went on a good run. Plus, we'll have Scott Parker back as well :D!

I blame the FA for turning Harry's head. Still, could be worse, we could be Chelsea...

You were by far the better team, just need to sort out your concentration when defending.

Some players like VDV and Gallas have it but collectively the mental toughness isn't there.

How would you define our set pieces? What's worse than embarrassing? It's been the same scenario for years, they clearly don't practice them and specialists like VDV and Bale have forgotten how to take them.

How can VDV and Luka ping the ball fifty yards onto a team mates foot (under pressure) but can't whip a deadball into a loaded area?!

I'm still confident about third spot but why do they have to make things so difficult for themselves.

Massive win today. Did not enjoy that at times. The way Swansea pass the ball, it is a joy to watch (if you're a neutral.) It seemed like they held onto the ball for hours at certain points of the game. They've got some wonderful young Welsh players (but none as good as Gareth Bale :D) and also Sigurdsson is proving to be a great addition.

Level with the arse, an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to, Adebayor scoring again and Aaron Lennon back from injury. Things looking a lot better than they did a few weeks ago.

Disappointed that Defoe didn't get game time again. I get the distinct feeling he could be forced out of the club again :(!

Also, on the subject of 3rd place, I think it will come down to who performs better against the lesser sides rather than against the bigger sides.

Next week could be pivotal, tough games for Spurs (Sunderland away), Arsenal (Man City at Home), Newcastle, who are bang in the race for 3rd-4th in my opinion (Swansea away). Chelsea have, on paper, the easiest match (home to Wigan), and with the form they're in (and Torres scoring again), I fancy a comfortable home win.

I pray that Redknapp doesn't start feeling sorry for Defoe and go away from the 4-3-3 base.

Leave him on the bench and use him as an impact sub.

4-4-2 :BRICK:

Whatever happens, this has been a capitulation of the highest degree.

This is unforgivable. As a Spurs fan, I am absolutely livid!

The players and manager have to take a long, hard look at themselves and realise our season is not over. WIth Newcastle winning today, we have to pray Chelsea don't beat Fulham as that we will see them overtake us should they win by 2 goals.

I've given up on 3rd place now! We'll be lucky to finish 5th at this rate!

Do not get why Parker was left out today, we needed his drive and determination to break up play, Livermore not good enough.

I would be glad to see the back of HR if we finish outside the top 4.

Can't believe Spurs are going to let Chelsea sneak in and take it. Didn't they have an 11 point lead recently? That's incredible bottle. Bale best player in the prem? Scotty Parker? Modric.

Bale, Parker and Modric are indeed among the best EPL players.
You can't blame individual players if a team fails.

If this were one of your favourite teams, you would point out the obvious: the team was unsettled by the rumours that Redknapp will be the next England manager. Imagine rumours that Ferguson would be England's next manager? I'm pretty sure that would destabilize United too...

Besides that there is the fact that Redknapp is relying too much on his first eleven. If one of these players is not able to play, Spurs are in trouble. I simply can't understand why Redknapp never used Pienaar if you see him with Everton now.

Same goes for Krancjar, he's a good player but Redknapp never uses him. And i won't mention Pavelyuchenko....Bent....and others.

Gerd, using England as a potential reason for the team's collapse is a cheap excuse that his buddies in the media will use to deflect the responsibility away from him. At the same stage last season the team fell apart, what was the excuse then?

His decision making should be called into question, just like other managers and England would be crazy to hire him.

"We were disappointing. I changed the system to 4-4-2 and we were too open.
"I thought they bullied us a little bit. Their front players were strong and held the ball up well and we really didn't get a grip of them."
He can't let go of the 4-4-2, he even admitted a few days ago that it doesn't work any more but because some people told him that we play better with in a 4-4-2 he decided to listen to them instead of doing what is best for the team.

Two wingers, plus two strikers who don't press the ball in addition to an attack minded CM means that Livermore was the only player in the front six with a defence first mentality. That's asking a lot of any player, no wonder Parker is drained, he's doing the work of three or four men most of the time.

The players have a lot to answer for also, the lack of movement is poor for example.

Also King is finished, he shouldn't be given a new playing contract and Luka should never be allowed to take another set piece EVER.

I always said Redknapp is overrated tobi.
On the other hand, he must have done some good things because for a long stretch Spurs were the most attractive team in the EPL and they also won quite a lot of points.

I haven't seen the match against Norwich, but IMO Spurs kept on playing rather good football the last weeks when they scarcely ever won...

The good run was more or less a 4-4-1-1 formation and one of the big reasons why it worked is because VDV always drops deep and retains possession.

A lot of Spurs fans complained, they say he's too far away from Adebayor and that Defoe should play instead. I often wonder whether were watching the same games, whenever Defoe starts were instantly playing with ten men.

Don't rule out Newcastle, Chelsea will drop further points especially with their minds on the CL and FA Cup.

I don't get why 'arry insits on letting Bale drift all over the show.

He's at his best when he's flying down the wing and pinging a cross in, why complicate things?

I actually think it would in many ways be terrible for the Toon if they make the CL. That group of players have had a season of a lifetime - that is not a top-4 squad. And if they do make it, the 'sophmore slump' could be terrible for Newcastle. I hope they make Europa, and stay in the top 6. It's a great club, but the CL would come too soon imo.

Spurs deserve to be in the top 4 because they were playing the best football in the country up until January.

@Gerd - These aren't young, inexperienced footballers we're talking about here. Adebayor, Parker, Modric, Lennon, Friedel, King and so forth. These are well seasoned veterans, who shouldn't let some manager speculation derail their focus and season. If Fergie said he was retiring at the end of the year, do you really think Rooney, Ferdinand, Giggs and so forth would just capitulate? I don't. Not at all.

I really like Spurs and desperately want them to hold on to 4th. Just can't work out how it's going to now happen.

Spurs still have an 'easy' run in though until the end of the season, but I suppose Norwich was supposed to be a foregone conclusion aswell.

But I can easily see Spurs winning their last games.

He thinks he's Ronaldo.

 I was going to make some snidy joke about that but Tobi got their before me.

"He's triffic, I should do what Sir Alex did with Ronaldo, and let him do what he wants cause he's the best winger in the world, triffic lad"

He's better in a more restricted role stretching the play out wide, beating his man and putting in a good delivery a la Valencia.

'Arry loves giving his attacking players plenty of creative freedom but Bale lacks the nous to take full advantage of it.

Not that United can afford him with the Glazers, but if this was 8 years ago he'd been a United jersey in the summer. Could come learn under Giggsy, he's the type of player Fergie adores and would absolutely run riot with our wing options on the other side.

A midfield 4 with Bale and Valencia on their correct sides, with Rooney and Hernandez up front is absolutely terrifying in terms of crossing and finishing potential.

But, back to reality, we're skint so won't happen.

Valencia is a much underrated player but Bale (while being overrated) is better than Valencia...
Lots of other teams fans are pissed because Bale is overhyped. He is overhyped, but that doesn't mean that he is a damn fine player who had a very good season...

And speaking about Spurs and overhyped, Redknapp is massively overhyped...
