The TV Thread

Guys whats this I hear about Sharp TV's having the best screens? I was chatting to some guys who love their tech stuff and recommended me to get a Sharp tele.

Its just that I dont hear much about them from people. The main 3 brands that tend to get a mention are Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba. Samsung not as much. But I never hear Sharp. Is he chatting rubbish or is there some truth to it?

He pointed me to the new Sharpe LC37X20E. Apparently its 1080p at an affordable price. Also said they do a 1080p tv in 32inch. Any point in that?

Well the last big Sharp model 37/42/46/52XD1E had dreadful problems! Including buzzing and backlight problems! But the TV wasn't bad, just very POOR quality control.

Read around the net if these problems have been solved, I am also looking for a 1080p 37" LCD. I'm waiting for info on the Toshiba Z-series first before I make any decisions.

Cheers for that. Yeh I guess its hard to make judgement on a product thats yet to be released!

Regarding Toshiba, is the 37X3030D any good? Same size and similar price, just has one less hdmi port.

I dont get the buzz over Toshiba, I seriously see nothing in magazines or buying guides that recommend the brand.

I think I might have mentioned this before but I wasn't impressed by the Toshiba's at all. Maybe the Z series will be amazing but the X series were disappointing - they actually were my first choice....but then I saw them on show :(

Maybe I am being a bit harsh - but imho the blacks and SD quality were frankly tosh (pun intended).

Yeah the X-series isn't amazing, wait for the Z-series IMHO.

Then we'd all have Samsungs if we bought into media frenzy!
:lmao:

Better contrast, just may squeeze into spot at side of the chimney breast?;)

awesome LED back light sounds the way to go, but too big and no sign of smaller ones....:(

Best picture out there on any format, so they say, If I got a Plasma this would be it but again too big and no details on when the smaller screens are due? :(

HCC gave that Kuro TV a rave review.

Heads to the bank to apply for overdraft...

That Kuro!!!! Also the Panasonic 50PZ700 is a very cool set!

See plasmas are the best

But also the new

And Nick! Just wait a little while for some price drops IMHO :)

Granted I dont have a HDTV yet but I do know a lot about them. Isn't it true that if you intend to play your PS3 or 360 in HD then LCD is the way to go. If not then Plasma's are your best friend?

Can someone clarify this for me.

Been asking around (including the guys over at PC Action and PSM3) and they strongly recommend the Sharp sets for gaming. I'm gonna pre-order the new model now. Feels weird, I've always purchased Sony.

Not really... they only worry is screen-burn, but that is non-existent on new branded plasmas.
I've played games with a logo on the TV all the time, like Spiderman 3 and Saints Row and had no problems.

Plasma has quicker refresh times than LCD, so no response time worry like with LCD.

Would love the Kuro, but would have to be full 1080p and that wont be out for a while in smaller sizes, looks good though...

Pioneers only come 42" in smaller size now, so no inbetween like 46/47".

:)

So just go 50 :P

Can't get far enough away or I would, plus my other half would kill me, still not sorted her loft office out yet... how far away would you need to be for 50" I'm around the 8-9 feet mark with current layout but could with a move around go up to 20ft.

length doesnt really matter, max 1 meter. At the moment I have a component cable, so hopefully the HDMI will give me better resolution.

What TV btw? As it won't neccesarily give you better resolution unless your TV supports 1080p.

Anyway, are you in UK? Excuse me, but I don't now where Perm is. Most HDMI cables are the same, for short distances like 1m, any HDMI will be fine. It is only when you start looking for 5m ones, you need to go for brand names.

Hi Ash,

I've got a Phillips Plasma 42PF5521D. I dont know if it does 1080p, I got it about 6 months ago.

I am now based in UK.

hey lads I need some help... I´m thinking of buying a LCD for

50% playing PS3
20% watching Blurays
30% watching TV

which is the best solution for me.

At the moment I prefer:

1. Samsung LE-46F86BD
or
2. Sharp Aquos LC-46 XL1E

what do you prefer

thanks

Nope it does not support 1080p, but thats not such a problem as not many PS3 games are 1080p.

Get this cable: http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=13611&category_id=182

Free delivery and dirt cheap! And don't be put off by the price, as I said before HDMI cable quality are all the same, unless you start going for longer cables.

Price looks amazing! BUT... that technology 1080p and other things at such a low price
It looks very odd to me, unless its a budget sort-of model which I wouldn't touch.

If you HAVE to have 1080p, I would spend a little more for the Toshiba 37X3030 (£699 in various palces: http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pl/2-896661/TVs/Toshiba-37X3030D-Compare-Prices) or Sharp 37XD1E (£694: http://www.cramptonandmoore.co.uk/lc37xd1e-i1543.html)

That is if you want 1080p, if not there are better sets, with better quality :)

But before you go for that Hitachi, maybe wait for reviews? As it seems its not really out properly yet, with only a few places having it in stock.
