The TV Show Thread

Caught up in a lot of things now.

Boardwalk Empire - Think this season has been brilliant, bit sad to see some faces go and whilst I don't believe there was a character like Gyp Rosetti appearing still been really enjoyable. I love Michael Shannon (WTF, he's only 39?????) in the series.

Walking Dead - Got myself up to the last episode. Have enjoyed it again, but I think another season or two and that should be it. The last couple of episodes where good, but they could egg this one out with the other characters if they wished. Was starting to think are they trying to get us to like this guy, and then hey ho, knock that one on the head, LOL.

Homeland - This series has improved as it's went on, not sure how much life it's still got in it though.

Will leave the rest of Sons of Anarchy to after the New Year.

Walking Dead is on Season 4 and POI on Season 2 in UK. 24 x 2 & 12 x 4 = the same to me so not sure how it's too many episodes? I enjoy it so if its good, isn't more episodes of a good series a good thing?

Yeah. Me and missus tried it over the holidays and are still watching it now. Thought season 1 dragged at times. A lot of the fight scenes are bad and unrealistic. There should be more suspense. John should get his ass handed to him when it's 3 on 1. Season 2 was defn an improvement though. That said, this show still can't touch the unpredictable wow moments that you will see on BB, walking and boardwalk. Wish there was more Zoey and Shaw looks like she is going to be interesting character.

Is Breaking Bad as good as the hype? I just finished watching Sherlock, and am caught up on all the other shows I watch.. Including all episodes of New Girl in one weekend and a bit.
Breaking Bad was next on my list, but just doesn't seem that amazing.

Breaking Bad is the best TV show I've seen. And I've watched a lot of TV shows.

Amen to both of you. The problem I have now is that before I watched Breaking Bad I had only seen Prison Break, TAAHM, HIMYM and TBBT, so any other TV show I watch won't be the same.

Breaking Bad must be seen right before your death, so you can finally agree that it is the best show ever after years of experience in this.

That happened to me after watching The Wire... To me, nothing comes close to it, not even Breaking Bad.

Now when I watch a TV show it's the same as you say, other shows just aren't the same - I used to be able to watch pretty much any half-decent show, but now I rarely bother with them.

Last month I decided to try something different. So I watched Doctor Who 2005.
I never thought that would be that addictive. I really like that there are many charatcers and different story arcs each season.
It's easy to follow and really well done for those who, like me, have never watched the Classics.

Rob, if you loved the Wire (just like me, Breaking bad doesn't even comes close IMO), you should watch Engrenages (the Spiral in English).
This comes very close to the Wire, but it's French.

Something i also liked (without it being a top ten series) was the first season of Parenthood...

I loved Breaking Bad, but I definitely don't have that feeling of anything is shite after it. Cause if there was a perfect show to give me that feeling it would be Curb Your Enthusiasm anyway ;)

Any of you lads watching True Detective? I'm not sure I like this show, it has its moments, but it also feel a bit weak, like its using formulas I'm tired of seeing around.

Finally up to date with Sons of Anarchy, another excellent season.

Not sure how much more lift it has though, would like to see another 1 or 2 at most and then that would be it for me.

As for Breaking Bad, brilliant show, one of the best I've saw, although I still put Sopranos, Deadwood (possibly didn't last long enough to merit, but for me it did), The Shield and possibly Sons of Anarchy.

Wait, I'm not saying everything that's not BB is shit, I actually liked quite much Prison Break, Mad Men looks pretty good and I'm stuck with Lilyhammer and House of Cards, but neither can be compared with BB. It's like Sopranos was the Maradona or Pelé of TV shows and BB was Messi or Ronaldo

Well I guess, I explained it wrong cause I don't understand that feeling, most shows I miss, I miss thinking how they could be better, how it could have more episodes.

Which is definitely not the case with Breaking Bad, that's one of the few shows I got that closure feeling after it ended. It will have a place in my heart, but my heart is big :))

I've done the Sopranos, Homeland, Dexter, Prison Break (I stopped after Season 2, as it just got silly) and Sons of Anarchy, but nothing touches the genius of Breaking Bad for me. I'm watching it again on Bluray, and actually find it even better second time around. Especially in Full HD.

I must get around to watching The Wire though.....

Edit - A friend of mine recommended Love/Hate to me, he said it was better than BB. Although I don't think I will ever see anything in my life-time to rival BB, I'm definitely going to give this a whirl......

Shameless US is a brilliant show, never bothered to try watching it because I hated almost everything about the original (all the young actors suck, and the constant "clownish" tone of the show even on dramatic situations made it all hard to "believe" and to endure).

Starting on Season 2 the US version is fantastic. So well produced, filmed and acted. I specially like how they manage to make it dramatic and comical at the same time and keeps you entertained for the entire hour.

Saturday BBC 4 will have the first episode of a rather good Belgium series: Salamander.
The first episode is great....afterwards it all slows down a bit, but it's still very good.
Typically Bekgian with lots of conspiracy theories...

Just discovered they've made a pilot for a potential series based on Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, one of my favourite series of books so brialliant news, it's available for free on Amazon Prime or Lovefilm, no account needed or anything! :)

The first couple of episodes of True Detective are slow-burners but episode 4 just obliterated any TV I've seen in years, possibly as far back as The Wire.

Quite fancied this when I saw the cast, might give it a look and see what happens.

Mind you started watching Underbelly. It's not bad actually, not as great as some have made out, and I believe the other seasons are set in different periods and on different characters, so not sure if I'll continue watching it after this season (1).

Mind you with Walking Dead back and Game of Thrones coming back soon, will need to prioritise my watching.
