The TV Show Thread

I've just watched Stephen Merchant's Hello Ladies for the 3rd time, I love that first season. Absolutely hilarious.

Good example of how we all have different tastes, thought it was one of the worst, unfunny, pathetic shows I've ever watched, although the last couple of episodes were an improvement, prior to it being cancelled, about the only time I laughed out loud however was the blatant Only Fools and Horses robbery.

Really ? :CONFUSE:

Do you like The Office, Extras or Life's too Short ?

And it's been cancelled ? Oh dear.... :(

I like The Office (both UK and US) and Extras and Episodes (which you could say is somewhat similar) haven't seen Life's too Short though. Like Alan Partridge stuff which is kind of similar tragedy comedy :) And yeah it's been cancelled I'm afraid.

Having read the books (like me), what do you think about the television adaptation of Game of Thrones, Alex ?
I watch it on DVD and am currently watching season 3, imo it is a stunningly good adaptation.

It's a stunning adaptation, indeed. Readers of the book know how difficult it was to adapt this work to TV. And they have succeed. Not going to enter into spoiler territory, but some chapters of the first and 3rd season feature some of the best twists ever.

I'm waiting patiently for the 4th season and the 6th book...

Just discovered they've made a pilot for a potential series based on Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, one of my favourite series of books so brialliant news, it's available for free on Amazon Prime or Lovefilm, no account needed or anything! :)

Maybe House of Cards, or for something a little more actiony Person of Interest, or if you want to keep towards a police/crime theme Homicide, The Wire or The Shield.

Did you see the pilot?

Not read the Harry Bosch books, I'll read the first book once I'm finished with the Wool series of books.

Looking forward to GOT coming back to the screens. Can't wait to see the whole aftermath of that last season finale. I don't read much, and no nothing of the books so it's all new to me what happens.

More or less up to date with Walking Dead. As mentioned I think it should get another couple of seasons and then give us some sort of ending, it's starting to drag out and as rightly said earlier the Zombies are becoming an irrelevance in the whole grand scheme of things, yeah to a point it'd be true, but they're the main focus of the story.

As for True Detective, brilliant show. Matthew McConaghuey is fantastic in it, Harrelson doesn't disappoint too. Onto the last couple of episodes.

in which season you dropped POI? because it's getting even better and better every season, the actual third season is just epic.

The Walking Dead, I agree, it's now droppable, character's development without good and solid story means nothing, and the show seems to be losing its way, sadly I can't drop it, I can't drop something I watched for 4 seasons :D.

Season 3 episode 10. The more we thought about it the more we realized that Reese is almost like Bruce Wayne but a lot less believable. The guy fights crime in the same blazer every episode:YAWN:

well, it's not about Reese, the main theme is mostly related to the system programmed by Finch, and the different parts trying to administrate it, Reese is a main character but he isn't the center of the show.
I advise you to watch episode 11, there's a new BIG party revealed.

Aye. Will give her a go then. Been awhile and we haven't started True Detective so we're really not watching anything at the moment.

Finished True Detective. Really good show, excellent performances.

Up to date with TWD, it's been very slow, I'm guessing with only 2 or 3 episodes it's going to end just as they all meet at you know where.

Didn't see the last episode panning out like that, kinda went a bit loopy. I like big Tyresse (sp?), a big friendly giant kinda guy.

I'd say, give Homeland, Dexter and Sons of Anarchy a go. Those were the ones I watched after BB to fill the void.

I'm getting more into True Detective, on episode 5 and starting to enjoy it so much more.

I have The Wire ready to go, but Person of Interest is also catching my attention.

The two first episodes of Hannibal season 2 are really great.
low rattings, this show too smart ? too aesthetic ? for American audience ? :CONFUSE:

The wire never got canceled and that was too smart for most people!

It depends really. There is no sure fire way of guarantee good ratings.

The Wire was on HBO. HBO has subscribers and doesn't need advertisement, that is the reason why HBO can afford to program difficult shows like The Wire and Trem

I've been looking for a TV show for a while now, perhaps someone knows what it's called. It's about how the World would've been like if Nazi-Germany had won World War II. It's not documentary series or anything like that.

Hmm I know the book/movie Fatherland but can't remember a similar TV Series, sounds interesting!

Edit:

These two look to be the closest I can find:

An Englishman's Castle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An Englishman's Castle is a BBC television serial first broadcast in 1978, written by Philip Mackie. The story was set in an alternate history 1970s, in which Nazi Germany won World War II and occupies England. Peter Ingram (Kenneth More) is a writer for a soap opera (also called An Englishman's Castle), which is set in London during The Blitz and subsequent Nazi occupation.

The Other Man (1964 TV programme) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This alternative history follows the life of George Grant (Michael Caine), a young army officer, as Britain capitulates to Germany in 1940 to avoid bombing.

TWD with one episode to go has been pretty disappointing, a few episodes maybe, but other than that, not a lot has happened/developed.

I'm hoping we have another couple of seasons and that's that.

True Detective was quite good. I doubt they're going to keep up the quality in a season 2 though.

EDIT: Watched the first episode of Black Sails... seems decent enough so far. They got a mix between fictional and historical pirates though, not sure yet how well that sits with me. Historically the pirates on Nassau and especially in Port Royal were known as extremely generous and happy while in port but in the series they are portrayed rather niggardly so far. I'm hoping for a good show at least.

Zach McGowan as Charles Vane does a horrible job though. I'd fire his ass off the set in an instant. He's the kind of actor that uses throaty whispers in every situation, even a storm while communicating with someone at the other end of the ship. Pathetic.

EDIT: I'd also prefer a little less botox and steroid infested cast but that's just me. Anne Bonny with botox lips just doesn't look right somehow.
