The TV Show Thread

Might give this a watch, seeing as I'm quite the Pirate fan. Quite funny to see the names too that also appeared in AC:BF.

Just over a week to go in GOT, can't wait to see the return of that.

I'm rereading the books of Game of Thrones.
JRR Martin must have a fantastic imagination to create a world like this.

Those who have read a decent amount of fantasy, classic and the new stuff, notice pretty quickly that most of the world building in Song of Ice and Fire is stringed together of bits and pieces stolen from elsewhere. What's impressing me more with the series is the amount of twists and turns, how cleverly the little plots are made up. Plus, the characters are quite interesting for the most part.

I haven't seen the TV show yet, I'll finish the last book first. I almost died of boredom when I first tried to watch it, stranded on the second episode. Maybe it'll be better when I try next time.

I'm not a fantasy reader. Somebody i respect described Martin's books as fantasy for non fantasy readers. I immensely like the books and frankly i don't care if the content is stolen. Originality is a typical western concept that is seen as absurd in large parts of Asia. That is one of the reasons for the widespread piracy in China and Japan.
China's top 3 all-time most revered painters copied each other...not bits and pieces, but from A to Z.

I agree with you on the twists and turns, the clever litle plots and the characters.

I like the series a lot. Usually i don't like films and series from books i've already read. GOT is one of the exceptions (along with Volker Schlondorff's "Tin Drum" and Jean Jacques Annoud's "The name of the Rose").

Couldn't agree more on everything. The name of the rose shares a lot with GOT in my oppinion. The book is dense, deep and rich, while the movie/tv series shapes a lighter experience with subtle changes that make it great for entertainment.

It's very difficult to achieve something like this.

I didn't mean to imply that I was all for originality either. Personally, I'd prefer even more classical mobs involved such as Orcs and not particularly Tolkien's iteration of the species.

Anyway, the books are great but I struggle to see how they can grasp all of this into a series without cutting away a lot of goodies.

Halfway into the first season of Black Sails I have to recommend it despite my earlier complaints (steroid and botox polluted actors). After a bit of a slow start it has improved in quality and I'm quite enjoying it. The main plot is fairly standardfor a pirate story but it doesn't really matter. I read some complaints about the computer generated imagery used in the series but for the most part it's very good but I haven't been trying to spot mistakes either. It's good to get a pirate fix without an abundance of magic involved.

I finally finished True Detective, it was good, but not great. In my opinion. Great performances from Woody and Maccers, but that's about it.

I started Season 2 of Hannibal yesterday, and ended up watching all 4 episodes off the belt. Loved it, can't wait for the next episode, I'm totally absorbed.

Just seen the final scenes of HIMYM, which I absolutely loved over all the seasons, but THAT finale? Who the hell came up with so many so stupid twists? That must be one of the biggest fan disappointments ever in history, when you're teased for season after the season and in the end absolutely nothing makes any sense at all and they screw up everything they built up in terms of character development over the course of all these years.

I usually have a rational attitude towards series and movies as I know their scripted background, but this really shocked me. :CONFUSE:

Even after that disappointment I hope they'll produce a nice blu-ray box-set with all seasons on it, they series entertained me so much and came up with so many funny things, that it's still worth buying.

Started watching Black Sails, big Pirate fan myself, so started on the first couple of episodes.

It's okay so far, nowt special as yet.

The Fargo premiere was excellent, one of the best TV premiere's I've seen in ages. So good.

TV.com makes some comparisons to Breaking Bad at times, that should tell you enough.

my two main series now are Person of Interest and Game of Thrones, and I'm glad they're both doing very very good.
in fact, the best series I watched (and currently watches) after LOST era, are POI, GOT, BrBa.

Really looking forward to this. Heard nothing but amazing things about the premiere and loved the film. Steller cast too!

EDIT: Watched it - AMAZING!!! Loved it, was so good. BBT and Freeman were excellent and some nice supporting cast in there too. Looking forward to Hanks Jr role and seeing where that goes.

Hope it carries on at this quality as it will be a massive hit surely.

Hmmmmmmnnnnnnn...... Interesting. And the BB comparison is more than enough for me to give this a shot.

Probably a bit late news to some.

But WTF has happened to POI?

I am only on Episode 13 of Season 3, but apart from 8 & 9 which were excellent, the program has gone massively down hill.
The last episode which involves a jet that is the only spoiler I will say, but I seriously finding it hard to take the series seriously anymore it was comedy gold, except it isn't meant to be a comedy.
With the whole Root thing as well, it really has lost nearly all credibility for me now. All scenes with her is just comedy now, the episode with her and Shaw was alright, but the episode with them saving John in the hotel and she grabs two guns and shots the people through the window, really stupid.

This weeks Fargo didnt quite reach the heights of last week, but is still infinitely better than nearly everything on TV at the moment.

I think the 'problem' this week was a lack of BBT and Freeman and particularly that they didnt share any scenes at all. Their interplay last week is what made it so good.

Still a lot covered though and its interesting how they are going to tie in the stories!

How did I missed this The Americans show, what a show, you lads probably talked about it already right?

I love how you often think omg these russians/americans are so mean, but then they subtly give you the context and you realize the threats of the war were damn serious.

I hate how some people simplify it though, thinking you have to cheer for russians/americans, the show is so much more than that.

I stopped watching The American's after episode 3, just felt a little TOO slow. I need to get back into it though, very good reviews.

The Blacklist was quite fun and entertaining. I might be biased because it's one of few TV shows I can watch with my wife so I tend to swallow a few camels to achieve that but I actually started to like it, I think. The show that is... not swallowing camels.

Last episode of person of interest was awesome.
The bridge scene is even more heart-wrenching once you know that that "Grace and Harold" are married irl.

Yea we love The Americans. I dont think S2 has quite reached the heights of S1, its been a bit slow and the story isnt quite as interesting, but its still superb and as Paul says above, the cast give some really good performances throughout.

Anyone watched Silicon Valley? 1 and a half eps in I'm already hooked, reminds me of a mix between Enlightened and Big Bang Theory, not a sit com but a very fun social satire comedy :)

That one looks interesting... doubt my wife will howl in glee though but it's nice to have a series I can watch on my own as well. :)

Knew this was only a matter of time. Don't think I'll bother about it. I'll stick to the films.

Been watching Fargo, enjoyable so far.

Game of Thrones coming along nicely too.

Still a bit away, but looking forward to the penultimate seasons of Sons of Anarchy and Boardwalk Empire.
