The TV Show Thread

I must confess. Very few series have touched me in a way for me to cry in the end. Spartacus was one of them. This episode was so beautiful and it evoked so many emotions that I have no words to tell for this finale and there will never be enough to tell it's greatness.

Ya. That was a great end to the series. It is a very rare thing for the last season of a series to be the best. The fight choreography was like a mix of 300 and Gladiator, two of my all time favs.

Man still have to watch the last 2 episodes but now I almost don't want to see it end :CONFUSE:

i watched the 1st ep of da vinci demons. i barely made it to the end, crap editing, annoying music that never stops, unlikeble characters, bad computer generated florence on the back ground, usual bs script full of mystical misteries.

first and last episode of this "wanna be ezio" leonardo.

I really liked the Following and I wanted it to be good, but they do some of the dumbest shit ever that just leaves you thinking that the people that wrote it are morons. They just write things in to fit their plot and in real life most of the stuff would have been stopped WAY before.

The one big one for me is that they could just have got video captures of everybody that visited the bloke in prison and they would have found most of the killers and the hide out probably. It's just a massive hole in the plot that ruins it for me.

Also the idiotic things they do, when they can just come up behind the people they want to catch, they decide to shout at everybody to 'MOVE OUT THE WAY' so that the bad guys have time to leg it. Plus leaving lone officers to look after people when a load have been killed in previous similar circumstances.

It just makes the FBI look like a bunch of Amateurs.

My wife wants to keep watching it and gets annoyed with me when I mention all of the stupid things they do, so I have to just shut up and watch it now :DD

Anyone has seen here "Engrenages" (In English: The Spiral) ? This is from 2005 (first season) and is only now out on DVD, i've read a couple of very good reviews and several reviewers called this France's "The Wire". As i am a big fan of "The Wire", i want to see it.

There was a point at the beginning, and the very end, of the last episode that was so annoying. As you say, it really makes the FBI look like amateurs.

I had really high hopes but it's pretty awful :(

Generally speaking, there's a a big lack of quality on scripting that may be partly because of bad writers but most probably due to pathetic marketing-driven producers that want to produce silly plots for silly average people.

This is how you end up with plots and characters being almost an insult to the spectator. The trend is that, in order to make someone look smart, instead of creating smart plots and brilliant statements, they generally opt for making anyone around them totally dumb. They think that the average spectator then will empathize with the main role and will feel as smart as him.

Obviously, 50% of the population is above the average audience (that's what happens with averages, half the population is always above or below) and finds this extremely annoying, because it's obvious the main role is NOT smart at all, but people aronud complete idiots.

This happens in almost all the shows portraying FBI, CIA, etc... such as Homeland as well. I raise my eyebrows too much, I end up eyebrow-sore when I watch those kind of TV Shows.

I'm not using the word AVERAGe freely. I've been working on advertising for 20 years and I know how the Marketing guys work, unfortunately. They do this to my job all the time, and it's infuriating how you end up with a dumbed down product at the end all the time because of stupid decisions based on stupid marketing charts.

Being a big fan of The wire myself, if you happen to find it and enjoy it, please tell us!

The Following is silly turn off your brain fun, it's never going to be The Wire or Southland, so don't go into it expecting that and you'll enjoy it much more! Think of it as a watered down The Shield in terms of the over the topness :)

It's frustrating for me because I actually like the idea of the following and I want it to be good, I think that is why it annoys me so much. The first episode got me really interested.

My Wife said the same thing as Placebo really, just take it for what it is....although it is hard for me to do, I will continue on, mainly because my wife likes it.

I can't see there being many series of it though. unless they up their game somewhat.

ha, the shield again! Its exaclty what these guys are talking about, so fake its not even believable...

Leave the Shield alone, it was awesome. :D

So is Spartacus actually finished now? It's not just the end of the season, it's the whole thing wrapped up?

Caught up with Walking Dead, I've enjoyed it, maybe it wasn't as good as previous, but still good and a few biggies going out. I believe the governor was more ruthless in the comic with different characters and stuff being killed off.

Tbh, I don't want it to just keep going, I'd give it another couple of seasons and then they have to stop then.

Onto the last few episodes of Sons of Anarchy, really really good viewing. I hope it has at most another couple of seasons and then that needs a finale too, it's been awesome and I've loved every minute of it, but too much has happened and needs to start getting some sort of finale soon.

Just started off with Game of Thrones 1st episode of the 3rd season, slow episode, but to be expected.

I started watching TWD 6 days ago, tonight I'll finish the 3rd season .
IMO the 3rd season is better than the second ..

1st person I've heard say that. Season 2 was exceptional, primarily because Shane was such a great antagonist for Rick. The potential was there for the Governor and Rick to match or exceed it. I thought they felt short as too many characters got in the way of their conflict. It dragged at times. Maybe season 4 will be better.

Shane being antagonist for Rick , and the way they made it, was great, but it took too many episodes, I mean the whole season ..
I felt they were expanding the season and filling it with some events ..

Yeah I thought season 3 was kinda weaksauce. Based on what I've read season 4 should be a lot better.

Anyone watching Game of Thrones btw? I'm so in love with that show. Imho season 3 already eclipsed season 1 as the best season so far. The acting, sets etc are phenomenal for a TV show.

GOT is a great show, fantastic viewing.

Whilst some may not agree, I like the Fantasy side to the film, sometimes guys fighting with swords is just not enough.

And now I'm starting to really like Jamie Lannister.

GOT defn has its moments. Season 3 is just starting to get good. First 3 eps were dire. The Lannisters snd littlefinger make the show IMO.

My wife and I have been powering through these shows over the last four months:

  • 24 - Season 5
  • Being Liverpool - Season 1
  • Downton Abbey - Season 3
  • Games of Thrones - Seasons 1-2
  • Iron Chef America - Season 11
  • Mad Men - Season 5
  • The Mindy Project - Season 1
  • Modern Family - Seasons 1-2
  • New Girl - Season 2
  • Parks and Recreation - Season 5
  • Planet Earth - Season 1
  • Portlandia - Season 2
  • Rome - Season 1
  • Seinfeld - Seasons 1-3
  • Stephen Fry in America - Season 1
  • Treme - Season 1
  • The Walking Dead - Season 3
  • The West Wing - Season 1
For those of you who love The Wire, you should definitely check out Treme. It was created by the same production team that did The Wire and explores a lot of the same race-related issues that The Wire does, but only it is set in New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina. Check out a clip here: YouTube - Treme Chief Costume Episode 1

Other thoughts: Game of Thrones is excellent and one of the most compelling TV shows I think I have ever watched. *Crosses fingers for Season 3 to be released on Amazon Instant Video soon.* Mad Men is great as well, but I personally feel that it needs to be digested in small doses...hence why The Mindy Project, Modern Family, New Girl, Parks and Recreation, and Seinfeld are all up there. The Mindy Project and Modern Family both capture the energy of the initial seasons of our version of The Office...which is no surprise given that Mindy Kaling co-wrote and directed episodes for its first eight seasons. I don't know if it's a culture difference, but I really enjoyed Being Liverpool. We simply do not get as much soccer coverage over here as everyone else in the rest of the world -- let alone behind-the-scenes coverage -- so being able to watch a show like this has been a wonderful opportunity. Iron Chef America and Planet Earth are all about admiring beauty in technique and design. And finally, I'm a big history guy, so I love shows like Rome and The West Wing. Stephen Fry in America is a good appetizer for any of you interested in learning more about what makes the United States such a unique place to live -- but with none of the cliche New York City-Los Angeles bias.

Other shows worth checking out:
  • 30 Rock
  • Band of Brothers
  • Breaking Bad
  • Cheers
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • Futurama
  • John Adams
  • The Simpsons
  • The Wire
I don't consider myself a TV junkie, but looking at these lists, it certainly makes it seem like it. Hopefully, my input is worth a damn. I'll be attending graduate school in the fall to hopefully earn a Master of Business Administration/Master of Fine Arts in Film and TV Producing. It's something that I love doing, so maybe you'll see a show that I'm helping out with in the future!

Oh, and The Walking Dead, Season 2, is much better than Season 3. I just didn't feel the same level of tension between Rick and The Governor as I did with Rick and Shane from Season 1 and 2. Hopefully, Season 4 puts the series back on track.

the spy arrested in moscow had the same wigs as the guys in the "americas".

anyway americans and house of cards were good new shows!

Just started watching Breaking Bad (I know, got some catching up to do!).

3 episodes in and loving it so far. The kid, Jesse is quite funny. Love his message when reciving a phone call...

for those who have interests in something different from the usual mainstream stuff..."Il Commissario Montalbano", a sicilian police investigator, is a brilliant one (there are some 25 episodes, 3-4 episodes a year over the past 8-9 years)

i read somewhere the bbc used to show them, there are really great, especially the very first ones. and sicily is just a marvellous place (a place u shouldn't miss in ur travelling).

Breaking Bad gets better with every season. Still the best thing I've ever seen in my life. Bar nothing.
