The TV Show Thread

Am really curious how Game of Thrones will turn out. Not going to use spoilers, but anyone who has read the books will see the obvious issues with making it into a tv show with such big names.

Think I'm looking forward to it, but those books are pretty awesome (except the latest one, which was a real chore) and don't really want HBO ruining it for me.

All I've seen is awesome, beachryan. I'm watching the first episodes in a special premiere in a cinema before it airs, and all the things I've heard and seen point to a big success, The wire / Sopranos big for some. A lot of TV critics have alreay watched the first 6 episodes and say it's epic, in the way every chapter is getting better than the previous one. Can you imagine the last chapters with everything going on?

If you haven't watch the 25 minutes maing off, I really recommend you to do so. It's great and if you have read the books you won't be spoiled at all.

A lot of the richness of the books will be lost, of course, but the main plots are so good that can sustain the show pretty well. I agree the 4th book is weak compared to the rest, mainly because it builds a lot of things after the storm of the 3rd book. But also because some of the new characters don't have the strength of the rest and sometimes Martin looses himself in secondary plots or even third level plots. But they own't have tihs problem in TV as they can focus only in the important plots (and even the 4th book has very interesting plots here and there).

Started watching 30 Rock its brilliant also watched first episode of Outsourced was quite funny shame it looks like going to be cancelled.

Very true. I'm sure it will be very well made, and love the choice for Ned, but am not sure how it'll pan out over time. Is the first season on tv just the first book? If so, Martin better damn well finish off dance with dragons soon! Lazy sod ;)

Kind of enjoyed the first season to a point, then became bored and couldn't be bothered with the second season. It's alright but better shows to watch for me.

Really enjoyed "Game Of Thrones" last night, so good putting names to faces. And turns out I was saying Arya's name wrong too :D

I was surprised they showed so much nudity. I know there's quite a bit in the book etc but I was still surprised.

Got to also say that the settings look amazing, they've done a fantastic job creating the various areas and "The Wall" looked so impressive at the beginning!

Oh, and I want a direwolf :D

Yes, I watched the first 2 episdoes last night in a cinema premiere. Amazing job. I was talking to a critic who has watched the first 6 episodes, and said each one is better than the previous one(except probably the 2nd, which is the end of the exposition of characters). They say episodes 5 & 6 are really epic masterpieces. And no one has yet seen the last 4 of the first season...

All the artistic-related things were amazing, and acting is very well done. I could recognize every character. Now we only need to know the oppinion of those who never read the books and see how it goes. I think the initial impressions may be similar to those I had of The wire. Lots of characters, lots of plots, and needing time to swallow everything and build on top of it. Just like in the book.

To me, it looked like a beast of a tv series, and knowing what's ahead, I think it's really unlike anything else in TV. I can only imagine the end of the season... epicness!

I said to a workmate that I'm not convinced he'll be gripped by the first episode as it's mainly character building and the story doesn't advance too much but to give it until episode 3 to work up.

Pretty jealous you got to see episode 2 though!

I had problems recognising Jon and Robb but everyone else seemed to fit well.

:LMAO:

Edit:
Also, pay close attention to the spectacular opening credit sequence (backed by an infectious score) to see the landscape change for each episode, to represent the new areas of Westeros gradually seen on the show.

Very clever :)

I thought it was good start and have not read books but i had to wiki the ending as i could not wait.

From what i got from wiki from book Bran Stark is not dead just left crippled

The first episode certainly had it all action, nudity, and incest :D

Watched the first episode of Game of Thrones - impressive!

I havn't read the books, but it was high quality and quite gripping, I'm sure I'll enjoy the rest of the series.

On an unrelated note - Chuck has just about come to it's end I think, it's getting progressively worse and the novelty has worn off.

A list of shows that are getting renewed, on the verge, 50/50, unlikely and cancelled;

Shame The Defenders is looking dead, really liked that! V...meh, The Event...meh. Mr Sunshine is ok, but not too dissapointed if it fails. Human Target I like, but that's always looked on the edge anyway. And I would expect production costs to be pretty high aswell. Just started watching Off The Map with the gf, a tropical Grey's Anatomy. Looks ok.

The Wire is on again on FX HD

Its episode 4 in Series 1 at the minute so if you aint seen it yet now the time :)

Yes, I love it too! Wondering how many non-readers of the book are finding it though, considering the complexity of the plot and characters...

Tomorrow I'm watching 3rd episode, so I watched the first 2 again, and they're gorgeous, even better than I what thought the first time.

I wondered that too, I'm on Book 3 at the moment, but my 2 mates who watched the first 2 eps said they really enjoyed it so far.

'You think you're good looking, but you're not. You're average. You're just an average looking guy with a big chin.'

Amazing.
I'll watch it again next week before the second part.

10/10
