The Retro-PES Corner

If possible, please modify JLWE9 to High LOD. :D

I think that J.league winning eleven 9 asia championship is the best version of PES 5, gameplay-wise. My biggest wish regarding that game is if someone could make that game translated to english, and the biggest problem is that Master league is only playable with asian clubs, so if it is doable to swap/edit, something like that so that those asian clubs become like selection of best european clubs, it would be awesome to play ML like that. All in one PS2 ISO, it would be one of the best patched versions of retro PES games

The amazing thing in Pro Evolution/Winning Eleven series is that there are so many versions of them, and every version have a different tweak in their gameplay so you have to try them all to really find the best version and gameplay that suits you.

That is what it makes this whole PES/WE series amazing, and different then other games. The fact that with each version you find some other level of different gameplay you enjoy, different tweak in ball physics, etc.... amazing.

What other game series you know is doing that? I mean, look at this number of different gameplay styles and ball physics.

Hi PC users... while releasing gameplay for PES2021 and Football Life 2026, today I also want to give a gift to fans of Winning Eleven 9 Liveware Evolution (Korean market) for PC.

Download the patched version of the game, whose exe I used for the new gameplay from here:

And here are the three new gameplays to try with it:

There is no need to rename the exe files... just leave them in the game folder and launch the gameplay you want to play from there.

Please give me your feedback if you want.

enjoy
Great man. :)

Can you tell us is there a difference in AI difficulty on this gameplay tweaks?

Thx

Thats true! I have been playing 4 different PES games last month and all of them are great in their own way, but still keep the basics of football well sorted.

Recently, I've been playing PS2-era WE/PES and noticed that even in slower-paced titles like JLWE9 and WE9LE, players' acceleration, sprint speed, and dribbling speed feel excessively fast. However, when using J1 teams from the JLWE series, the gameplay feels more realistic.
It would likely improve the experience if we could use a save editor to uniformly reduce these relevant stats by 5 to 10 points for all players.

I just noticed an issue: the player faces (Zidane and Beckham) in the JLWE series are different from those in the WE/PES series—they're fake. Is this to save on licensing costs? For example, in JLWE9, which was released later than WE9 and PES5, both Zidane and Beckham have fake faces.

Does anyone have j league winning eleven 9 ps2 translated only(like player names etc) ? , I downloaded a translated version a couple of months ago but didn't play it till today and after trying it feels fantastic and a complete game from all sides and playing on my PS3 Hen and it crashes while playing the ps3 itself turns off (this happens also with jlwe8 translated )i don't understand why , while the non translated original copy doesn't crash

Sounds like you're playing on emulator, playing it in wide-screen but don't have a true wide screen patch. I've noticed some so called wide-screen patches for these games aren't true wide-screen patches and this can cause a speed alteration.
Try it in 4:3 and disable wide-screen patch. If there is a difference in speed then this the problem.
Having said that, all PS2 WE/PES games are faster paced than today's tripe so maybe it's just that you're not used to it.
I always see people mentioning lowering the speed of WE/PES, so it's either to do with incorrect wide-screen patches or everyone is getting old AF and their eyes can't keep up anymore. Never heard anyone mention WE/PES on PS2 being too fast when they got released.

@BillyKong , the version i downloaded called "hack edition" I think this is the problem , does your version translated only ? , I downloaded the original version now to test it to see if it's the ps3 hen itself or the iso

I downloaded the original iso to try it out and it worked perfectly without any crashes, and also fortunately the game loaded the previous save file which was related to the "hack edition" had all players and stadiums renamed to english

But there's an issue with Fernando's JLWE9 English patch v3 where the name on the jersey is ALL incorrect.

NO widescreen patch.

NO widescreen patch.
Ok but if you're playing in anything other than the original aspect ratio without a true wide-screen patch eg stretched/16:9 etc then the speed will be faster than it was intended to be.

Hi all,

For the ones who played both PS2 PES/WE 2008 and PES 5, apart from the AI, is there any other aspect where you'd prefer PES/WE 2008 over PES 5 ?

I don't only mean from gameplay point of view, it can also be content related, ...

J.
Ball physics, amount of fouls, midfield play (especially on JLWE9AC). For me all of these are better on PES5/WE9/WE9LE/JLWE9AC than PES 2008/WE 2008.

Hi, i know you said apart from the AI, but PES 2008 is much harder against the AI than PES 5. That is the main thing for me. Also, there are more transfer offers in ML in 2008 than 5.

I'd say the complete opposite of what @BillyKong said.
The only thing id take would be the free kick system of PES 5/WE9 etc
PES 5 and chums is a spectacular game but WE2008/PES2008 is the pinnacle of PS2 WE/PES for me

That's a good question , I'll speak about my experience about j league games (jlwe9 and jlwe2008) because I mainly play j league despite the gameplay point of view "which both of them are equally incredible and fantastic in their own way"

From my own point of view , both of them are equally in the same ranking for me but slightly jlwe2008 will be above it here's why
1-in jlwe9 you had Japan challenge , in jlwe2008 you had world tour (equal), even though club teams offer more a lot more teams to play with other than Japan in we9
2-both of them offer unique experience in their own ways and you can totally feel it when playing
3- the point of difference for me which makes jlwe2008 is more better than jlwe9 is the player graphics (faces and hairs) are hugely better than jlwe9 , in jlwe9 you can sense the (we want to make a lot of content so make it fast despite of quality ) with konami and this happened in we2014 aoki , jlwe2013 (dlc), unlike jlwe2012(dlc) and jlwe2008,2009,2010 who took time to really work on making the player faces and hairs more unique and imaginative (huge quality of pes/we in general), but in jlwe9 the players look a little bit weird and their faces felt like it was made by a Photoshop and their hairs are generic, also in 2008 I can sense the player individuality more than we9
4- The Soul of the game , what I mean is that jlwe2008 has more soul into it more than any jlwe game , as it was the first official game to be mainly focused on j league , which is the huge part of Konami , literally the first player id is a japanese player haha , although I like jlwe2010 way more in terms of soul and player graphics but you get me , the game takes you to a different realm although I play ps2 we/pes games since 2010 but especially jlwe2008 was a whole different story even after 15 years of playing! , I've tried it month ago because of you guys recommending it here and I was absolutely mind blown with it , the same happened to me with jlwe9 a couple of days ago but for me I'll go with jlwe2008 for the reasons said above .

@PES4eva , @BillyKong ,
I prefer ball physics of the 5 but free kicks are too easy in 5 imho.
For the fouls, I prefer 2008 but midfield play, Il slightly prefer 5.
Content wise, I'm playing World Tour for the first time and it's an awesome addition to 2008 ! On the other side, there is Bundesliga and bug free ML in 5 (+ the possibility to mix kits ahah).
And as I said, the AI is just amazing in PES/WE 2008.
They are 2 amazing games.

@Yosefus99 , fully agree. JLWE2008CC is a Master Piece. But with friends, we play too often with national teams and then even if I own this game, I've never digged into it like you did. But from my own experience, it's a piece of art, both on the gameplay and atmosphere, with all the stadiums, ...

Exactly , that's what made me leave fifa alot of years ago , the last good fifa in my opinion was 14 and that's it , fifa makes you feel like it's an actual soccer/football game which annoys me because I don't follow or like football in general , but we/pes is a magical artistic experience in my opinion.

Bug report: In your JLWE2008 version, players sometimes flicker/pop in and out on the screen. The issue disappears when switching back to the non-high LOD file. Additional note: I am using the PCSX2 emulator. Furthermore, your WE9LE high LOD file does not have this issue.

In JLWE2008, attackers actively attempt to dribble past opponents from outside the box to break into the box and shoot—a behavior absent in previous versions. Additionally, the passing trajectory for through balls to advancing wingers has been significantly improved. The ball no longer automatically travels at a 45-degree angle toward the sidelines but instead delivers well-weighted through passes into deeper spaces with substantial forward anticipation.

I'd say the complete opposite of what @BillyKong said.

PES 5 and chums is a spectacular game but WE2008/PES2008 is the pinnacle of PS2 WE/PES for me
Though the PS2 version of WE/PES 2008 is built upon the WE8 engine from the PS2 era, it introduces groundbreaking modifications to the gameplay system. Its strengths lie in the optimized through passes and improved crossing mechanics, while its weaknesses include overly grounded short-pass physics and dribbling mechanics where the ball sticks too closely to the feet.
Overall, I believe JLWE9 represents the pinnacle of the WE/PES series during the PS2 era.
ps. I would say more if my English were better. ;)
