I'm on the complete opposite side of this spectrum. I find slow PES incredibly boring. It's like I'm waiting around between passes and shots. I understand why you prefer a slower game though, a lot of people do as they get older. Needing more time to think about what you're doing and generally losing reflexes. I'm dreading the day I find PS2 PES too fast because I'll probably stop playing when I do.

Using a wired controller on an actual PS2 shouldn't give any input lag. When you use a wireless controller you'd get some sort of input lag.Oops sorry yes I meant the CPU not the PC.
Regarding the difficulties, when I was playing PES 5 a lot on PS2 back in the day I had this conversation with Victorious (maybe wrong spelling) and Lukas (Soyo) who both used to really push WE9LE as the best PES. I tried it on PC along with PES 5.
I found both WE9LE and PES 5 on PC easier than the PS2 version. The reason being is that I find the PS2 version less responsive, maybe because of the controls, the system, I am not sure but there is a 0.5 sec delay when pushing the buttons on the controllers compared to PC. So I found that on PC version of both was too easy to do one touch passing and zipping the ball around.
Regarding PES 6, I just don’t like, too easy, too arcadey in my opinion, so played it for a few weeks when I first bought it on PS2 and then I gave it to my mate’s son and went back to PES 5.

Depends what you class as the meaning of the best AI. That can mean a lot of things. Some game versions it's difficult to score, some games it's more difficult to defend, some games have better AI pressing, some have a better AI counter attack system. If you're looking for overall game difficulty then the most difficult version of WE/PES has been J League Winning Eleven 9 for me. I find it very frustrating playing this version and I'm not sure why but again that's subjective because the way you play might mean you find it easy and a game you think is difficult I might find easy. I guess my advice would be play as many different versions of this franchise as you can and find which suits your needs.

Just proves the point again that the difficulty of different WE/PES games are different for everyone because I think that's easier than 2008 and PES 6 😄
