The Retro-PES Corner

Will this be specific to his modified ISO? because the standard PES 2008 WS Pnach doesn't work with it.

never used pnach files so im not sure how they work, but this values are found inside the sles file if you open it with hex editor, going back to pnatch, if im not wrong sometimes you need to change the crc for the pnatch or something like that

The Pnach is a file that goes in the cheatWS folder of PCSX2/Aethersx2 etc that can enable true wide-screen. Normally these files are readily available for pretty much any PS2 game you can think of, however if a PS2 game has been modified ie patched, then it won't work because that ISO will now have different values. The Pnach needs to be specific to the ISO.

Yeah i checked the definition of it, but the same deal can be achieved by hex editing the iso or the specific file in the iso

I don't doubt that but if you hex edit the ISO to be wide-screen then you lose the option of 4:3. With the Pnach file you can have a choice of 4:3 or wide-screen, which is better since it gives people a choice.

But does the pnatch file need to be created? Right? If so, how do you create it?

Do yall know how to delete licensed kits in Pes 2008 (PS3/Xbox 360 version on PC), so I can edit them and make my custom kits?

Is Pes 2008 img file supposed to look like this?
Yes
Also my files in kitserver folder like GDB, names, img files are empty, is that supposed to be like that?
Normal, that's the default kitserver. You can use this patch to fill the GDB folder with kits (you can remove img files from it if u want to use only kits)
*could create a section dedicated to pes 2008 is the most underrated of the saga so I put it in this section

1.0
-PES 2008 Original base
- Original game teams
-All names corrected
-Transfers to February 2, 2008 (worldfootball.net)
-2008 National teams Squads
-Chants for big teams
-New Adbords
-All 2007-08 kits for teams
-All 2008 National teams kits (kitserver config)
-faces and hairs
-Originals sounds
-support english and spanish
*I originally used the world club patch 1.2, it's a great tribute to it as there was no effective patch from the 2007-08 season everyone started in 2008-09
*I have the stadiums but we would have to see if virtuared lets them upload

instructions

1. Install your clean pes 2008
2. Download the files
https://www.mediafire.com/file/3i8nn9n74nvebl8/PES+2008+World+Patch+1.0+(2007-08)(2008).rar/file
2. copy the pes2008.exe in the root folder (the crack)
3. copy the kitserver in the root folder and install it with setup in pes2008.exe
4. copy the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 folder in my documents or just the PES2008_EDIT01 file in the save folder this is the Option File

After playing more we2008 i feel it has a better a.i than Pes2008, better shooting and better first touch.

If you mean better AI = stronger, I feel the oppoite myself. 6-star in WE 2008 seemed easier than 5-star on PES 2008 to me.

The difference was to me the pace. Sligthly slower on WE 2008.

They have also added additonal Japanese national players (probably for the World Tour).

I felt the same at my first try,but back on Pes2008 and i find It easier.
Anyways top player could be more difficult than superstar on we2008 too.
Top player on we2008 is more difficult than top player on Pes2008 to me.
Superstar (we only) is not easier, but different with less pressing and a better positioning.

That's an interesting point. I've only played 6-star difficulty on WE 2008.

I did not imagine 5-star could just be different than 6-star, not just weaker.

How have you found the pace between WE and PES 2008 ?

Yes I have the same experience at my first time with we2008. But anyways could be even the mood, but today i am not saying superstar on we2008 is easier than top player on pes2008. I find pes2008 easier overall, because in my opinion shooting and first touch are simplified, and cross are too much effective on Pes2008
About pace: on superstar pace Is slower, because CPU has a great positioning and wait a lil more. On top player pressing is really aggressive, pes2008 like, and this make the game more frantic.
In my opinion we2008 feels smoother and more fluid on pad even if i put pes2008 at 60 hz.

These are my opinins, if you are going to test more and feel differents things i will be glad to read you :)

I just did a couple of matches in 5* yesterday on WE 2008.

Difficulty was indeed equal than in PES2008.

It's mostly the Super Star level I - personally - find easier.

I still think rythmn in WE 2008 is sligthly slower. Almost nothing but I can feel it.

Regarding crosses, I don't find them less effective. Scored a couple of headers from cross and AI scored a header on a corner kick.

I don't have felt different first touch or shooting compared to PES 2008. I'll experiment more.

Finally it was indeed smoother but I used to play PES in 50Hz. I'll try 60Hz to compare.

[EDIT]

In 60hz, I feel they play equal.
I have done the same game with same difficulty (5-star) and to me, PES 2008 is finally harder.
Look at the stats here : https://evoweb.uk/threads/pes2008-p...-game-video-thread.77796/page-29#post-4171423
I don't know if the AI plays differently in Cup or Exhibition mode though. It confirmed the previous tests I did months ago.
I still don't feel a difference in terms of shooting or first touch. I'll continue to explore.

Thanks for your opinion man.
Maybe we play a different way so we have different feelings.
Anyways I played only on exhibition on boths

Shooting Is really the thing i feel more different, not in terms of physics, but I feel it's easier to do bad shooting, on we,due to bad balance/pressing.

Yes, that's what I thought also, different ways of playing leads to different feelings.
But it's really about details to be honest. Both games are simply awesome.

Regarding that test post. You're not going to get the same outcome every single time. There's too many variables in the game to make the test accurate. Even if you played each game for a year straight through the tests wouldn't be accurate because it's impossible to play an exact identical game.

@simogto90 makes a valid point about everyone playing differently too.

Both are great games and which ever someone prefers they're going to have a good time playing so that's really all that matters in my opinion.

I know it's not an accurate test and at the end it's all about feelings and indeed, playing styles. I agree.
I really enjoy both and differences are very slim.

Btw, I just tried 5-6 games of eFootball, and I really do not like it. It seems like players have a kind of inertia that I don't like at all. The game does not feel responsive. Back on PES/WE 2008 ahah. Would be amazing to have online back on this one, like it has been done on 5 and 6.

I agree. PS2 Pes games are the best football games in my opinion. I put them above the best fifas too.
Pes2008/we2008 are probably the best versions, even if they miss the amazing physicalty from Pes5.
My personal favorites are we2008,we10le and Pes5.
I missed we8le, and i Hope i will be able to try It one day

Don't sleep on the great PS1 games too. If it's pure fun you like in a football game then I'd recommend anything from Winning Eleven 4 - WE2002 / PES 2.

You should also definitely check out Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution on GameCube or PS2 (PS2 has most patches available) it's frikin glorious. The shooting system is nothing like the games you mentioned so it will take time to get used to it but WHAT A GAME WE6FE is! Everything about it from the gameplay, zany graphics to possibly the greatest commentary of any WE/PES game is so exciting and fun. The more I play it the more it moves up my list of the greatest WE/PES games of all time.

Indeed. For me, the best football games are :
1. PS2 PES/WE 2008 (they are too close to consider them different imho)
2. JL 2008
3. PES 5

Going back to it depending on how people play. I remember a few years ago, a member on here was saying that they find PES2008 too easy, saying it is too easy to dribble past defenders. But for me I struggle to dribble past players at times. I am quite pleased that I am not brilliant at the game because it increases it’s longevity.

That was my problem with PES6, to me it is too easy, from every goal kick, either from me or the PC, I win the header and gain possession. But then someone else might say it is hard.

I will say that PES 6 on PC is nowhere near the difficulty of the PS2 version so that could be the reason. Plus, with patches you never know if they've altered the gameplay. Play some vanilla PES 6 on your PS2 and you'll notice that the PS2 version is way harder.

I have only played the PS2 version of PES6, vanilla. ;)

"from every goal kick, either from me or the PC"
I Assumed you meant an actual PC from this statement. Must have been a typo then.

Regarding the PS2 version I find PES 6 to be slightly more challenging than 2008 but I think 2008 is a better game. I've said before (can't remember where) these days I just want to have a chill time and have fun scoring goals so I'm not really looking to have a balls ache of a challenge anyway. I think 2008 has a nice balance of gameplay and fun. The shooting is much tighter than PES 6 and yeah it's just generally a better game.

I played J League Winning eleven 9 and 10 a while back and although I can appreciate they're good games and some people would enjoy the extreme challenge, for me they're just a chore to play because you get absolutely swarmed 24/7.

it aint the first time i heard that, but i was playing around the other day and switching from pes5 pc to pes6 ps2 felt so wrong to me, it was way too fast and in pes5 pc im not even user speeder, every player felt so lightweight, maybe its just me becoming old and just enjoying the overall feeling of slow pace football
