The Retro-PES Corner

Anyone with experience playing PES 2015 on PC ( and can compare it vs console version)
Despite it looking horrible and having its quirks its always been one of my favourite PES games and really keen on getting it for pc

hey, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but i'm having issues importing faces from pro evo 2008 ps2 to pes6 pc afs. every single face makes the game crash on display. i've noticed that the pes2008 face files are smaller than their pes6 counterparts, does that have anything to do with it?

Hi,

On PS1, I only own ISS Pro 98.

Do you think it's worthy to upgrade to ISS Pro 2 or even PES 2 on PS1 ?

Which one, according to you, is the "definitive" edition on PS1 ?

These two here pictured are the best on PS1, I just got all these games today, as I want all the best retro games. FIFA 16 is ex-display, so it’s mint.

IMO, they play just as fun and challenging game of PES as PES1-6 on PS2 and have awesome retro players.

I picked ISS Pro Evolution 2. Can't wait to get it and compare it to ISS Pro 98.
Also put my hands on PES 2013 (PC/DVD) as suggested by @PES4eva .
For PS1 you you should have got Pro Evolution Soccer 2 and not ISS Pro Evolution 2 in my opinion. They are quite different.
You’ll still have fun with it and PES 2013 is a good version of PES.

What makes PES2 a superior game to ISS Pro Evo 2 ? In your opinion ?

Gtaphics ? Content ? Gameplay ?
The gameplay is PES 2 far better than ISS and different to the PS2 version. I did recommend it for PS1 in our conversation. I’m sure you’ll have a good time with ISS though, it’s still a good game. In the future pick up PES 2 for PS1 though it’s great fun once you get the hang of it.

Edit: To give and example of changes think about PES 5 and think about WE9LE. It’s basically the game but with slight tweaks that enhance the overall gameplay.

I'll try to put my hands on PES 2 PS1 too then.

[EDIT]

Just found one copy at a fair price.
I forgot to mention something quite big and I’m not 100% because I haven’t played ISS pro 2 in forever (maybe someone knows for sure) but I can’t remember it having club teams or master league but I know for a fact PES 2 on PS1 has national teams, club teams and a master league. So that’s probably a big deal since I’m assuming most people play PES for master league.

ISS Pro Evo 2 has clubs but they are only playable in ML mode. It has a ML mode.

I don't know WE9 "LE". What are the improvements over WE9 / PES5 ? If the attacking AI is improved, I'd not call it a "small" improvement. ;-)

Winning eleven 9 Liveware Evolution was a Korean only game that got released after PES 5 but before PES 6. You could sum it up by saying it’s a hybrid of both PES 5 & PES 6. The gameplay sits somewhere in between those two games.

My heart says ISS Pro Evolution 2. My head says PES2. It's all subjective, of course!

But I will also sound out ISS Pro Evolution. In ISS Pro Evolution 2, PES and PES2, one-twos are massively overpowered. They are less effective in ISS Pro Evolution, making it a brilliant challenge.

Consider emulation if you're wanting to try these games. I love owning the physical copies but you don't need them - you can play PS1 games quite easily on a phone, tablet, laptop (all non-Apple) among other things. There are even ways to play them on a PS1 or PS2 without the discs.

PES2 has three divisions in the Master League. As revealed by some handsome bastard in this video:

@Flipper the Priest , I own the physical copies but do my own dumps to play them on DuckStation or Recalbox.

Before I extracted the PS2 BIOS from my PS1 and the PS1 BIOS from my PSP but now, with the PS3 Firmware released by Sony and RPCS3, you can get them without any hardware.

Cool. Just wondered as you mentioned buying PES2. CD Romance is reliable for ROMs if you can't be bothered waiting! 🙂

I can understand why @Juventino32 buys the games. Sometimes it’s nice to have an official collection of games you like. Plus, it’s not exactly expensive to buy older football games. I’m not really into collecting anymore so yeh I’d probably just download older games if it were me. New games I buy though since the developer will get money from that. With older games the only person who gets money from it is the person selling it.

You're preaching to the choir here! 😄
