The Retro-PES Corner

Hey guys :)),

Last night I scored what could be my favourite goal on PES. It just looks so beautiful! This is the PES 5 Original Season patch on PC.

What do you reckon?

I like a lot the fact that after time of playing PES vanilla so much on PS2 you dived into this great world of PES patches on PC and in top of that, starting by picking one of the best. When PES died as a franchise (and modern football videogames) I was entirely motivated to go on a great search for patches on EvoWeb, and since then I'm so happy. Patches are changing entirely the authenticity of PES so much that you can feel lots of differences in flavor to specific periods that are designed on those patches (graphics, competitions, stadiums, chants, soundtracks, faces, kits, badges...it's incredible how good are made). This place is like an ocean, I literally have the entire football history on my desktop for my weekend couch sessions with friends or if I want to roleplay alone some scenarios from a specific period...

That desktop 😍 ridiculous!

The time was right to start playing these patches. There is so much to discover 🙂. I still love the PS2 games as I love just how mad they can be. Plus the memories attached to them are still so strong. They are just so comfortable to play. I mean physically as well. I love sitting down on the couch and playing on the big Tv. I know it is possible to hook a laptop up to the Tv but it just isn’t the same. Emulating the PS2 on the Xbox Series consoles has been incredible for me.

Anyway, I’m in a great spot right now. These old games are never going to die! 😀.

Winning Eleven 2008 was originally released in Japan on 27th November 2007 across Sony PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, PC, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. This is the Japanese release of PES 2008 which was released slightly earlier in Europe. The main differences are the inclusion of an unlockable 6 star difficulty as well as default NTSC 60Hz support, English and Japanese language and audio including Japanese commentary which can also be used with English text.

The PS2 version in particular has become well known alongside the later released J.League version due to its advanced AI and replayability. This title is considered by many to be an improved version of PES 6 due to the improved artificial intelligence of the computer based opponent as well as improvements made to shooting, crossing and the midfield battles between teams.

Whilst there were more PS2 releases all the way until PES 2014, this title marked the end in many ways of the illustrious PS2 chapter of the series.

Patch Details:
  • High LOD fix applied via hex edit to the SLPM file.
  • Included default LOD SLPM file for original PS2 hardware. Simply import and copy over SLPM file in GGS.
  • New multi coloured power bar.
  • Removed ball cursor.
  • Fixed player and team names.
  • New scoreboards for exhibition, cup and league modes.
  • New selection of footballs.
  • New adboards.
  • New entrance and formation music.
  • New menu and loading screens.
  • New replay music.
  • New stadiums and turf.
  • Premier League and missing National and Classic team kits updated via Option File.
  • New licensed referee kits.
  • New licensed goalkeeper gloves applied to all teams.
  • Official national crests applied as well as club logos.
  • Competition and League logos.
  • Banners for national and club teams.
  • A selection of chants are included for both national and club teams.

I would like to thank @marqisspes6 for his tools, help and support as always and @predator002 for use of some of his chants.

Unfortunately I didn't get time to incorporate a full kitserver or chant server but nonetheless its still a good quality patch. This marks the last of the patches I will create so I hope you have enjoyed them! :) I wont be providing any support for this as I am no longer modding but feel free to take the contents and do what you want with it.

If anyone gets some time it would be great if any option file makers could help convert the empty Other League C into either the J.League 1st division or the Bundesliga. :)

Please download the latest nightly build of PCSX2 from here:

https://pcsx2.net/downloads/#nightly-anchor - Select the QT AVX2 release for Windows 10/11.

Ensure you apply the included Widescreen Patch to the appropriate folder in PCSX2 (I believe its cheats_ws and ensure 16:9 aspect ratio as well as cheats and widescreen patches are enabled in the emulator settings). You will know the widescreen patch has been applied properly as you will see a popup in the top left corner saying 'widescreen patches enabled'. Without this you will end up playing the game in stretched 16:9 and this causes the game to play at a higher speed than normal. Also ensure Optimal Frame Pacing is turned on to reduce any input latency.

Please ensure the option file is imported before playing.

I feel like a mix of teams from around the world at the time that don't happen to already be in the main game would be a nice OF idea, maybe even some more notable 2nd division European teams in there, would make for a nice complimentary to the other two 'miscellaneous' sections and especially interesting for ML 'division 2' in the latter case :3

This looks like a great patch though, might spin it up using ESR+FMCB on real PS2 hardware when I get the chance

It's the best volley I've ever seen in pes 5. So realistic!

Here's a freekick I scored few months ago.
Nothing compared with your goal, but it's 100% Totti style. Sorry for the bad video quality:
Amazing goal. Shows the best side of PES5.

And that patch.. whenever I open it I feel I'm holding a diamond in my hands.
Thank you very much, it's a great pleasure to read messages like this after such a long time since the release.

it's a period of forced break from editing, but I won't stop taking care of this great chapter!

Nice freekick 👌. I don’t see them fly into the net like that very often. The ball was rising all the way 🚀.

For anyone running the latest PCSX2 nightlies they have now changed the way widescreen patches function (this is from nightly version v1.7.4546 onwards). Patches now have a new naming convention and their contents are formatted in a different manner. Also any widescreen patches now go into the 'patches' folder of PCSX2 not the old cheats_ws folder.

As a result of this change I have updated the widescreen patches I would normally include with any of my patched Winning Eleven titles. I have bundled them together in the attached zip. They are for the following versions of my patched WE titles:

  • J.League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship
  • Winning Eleven 2008
  • Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution
  • Winning Eleven 7 International
  • Winning Eleven 8 Liveware Evolution
  • Winning Eleven 9 Liveware Evolution

Hey guys. I was wondering- Has anyone experienced any weird thing when downloading PES 6 on Windows 11?
I have the game file on a pendrive to insert whenever I do something with my PC, or want to play it on a different one.
When I was on Windows 10, I had no issues whatsoever. But, when I upgraded to Windows 11, every time I'd save the file on my computer, a notification would pop up from Windows Defender saying it detected a threat: the keygen file that comes inside the game, naming it a hacking tool or something like that. Has anyone who uses W11 experienced this? I've played PES 6 with that file for 5 years before upgrading to W11, and it really caught me off-guard.

C Congratulations for everything !!! could you when you can make some screens on how to configure the program please? hi thanks

Is this a modded pes 5??

Guys, one of my best friends (who now lives far away) wants to be introduced to PES 5, after playing FIFA for years. But the only thing is, he owns a Mac, not a PC. I'd love to play with him online.

What are the exact steps to play PC games on a Mac? Is it really time consuming and can, for example, PES 5 original season patch be played on a Mac?

It’s easy to play — once they have Parallels or Boot Camp running Windows (that’s the hard part) — those programs just partition part of your hard drive for Windows and you can easily run an old game like PES 5/6 through it.
