The Retro-PES Corner

About PS1, i play especially WE3 Final version translated (the funniest ISS pro for me), ISS 98... And Iss Deluxe lol.
Then sometimes ISS Pro Evo 2 or WE 2002, but i can't tell the difference sincerely, to me it's the same.

What's bother me between ISS evo 1 and 2 is the way too easy one-two. I NEVER at the the time carried about and used it all the time, but now in retrogaming i just can't stand it.

To me, the oldest PES/ISS game i could make an ML and all tournament is PES1 and WE5FE on PS2. Those one you can tell than everything is upper balanced, but not WE2002 were in tournaments, one-two was forbidden (simply if something that works a bit too well, too easy to pass the defense you can't say that game is balanced. It was overpowered)
That's the only corrective mod i would install directly : one-two like in ISS Pro 1, by far less effective. Even if on that game it was through ball, but not as dangerous.

Pes 2012 or 2013 are the best after pes5
From your taste. I hate PES 2013 weightless sensation. Physically to me the engine feels stretched in every ways to transform the game, it miss authenticity and "solidity".

PES 2011 is to me and for many of us here our favourite version. I won't say "the best" as it's a matter of interest.
Physicality and fundamental are better balanced than in 2012 and 2013, physics especially.

Played waaay to much PS2 Pes during the World Cup (PES5 is still the greatest, closely followed by PES 2008 and PES3) but quite fancy a PS3 PES now.

Torn between PES 2010 and 2011. What's the best in terms of playability and AI?

Ah crap I've got a feeling I was supposed to share something here for you but I've totally forgotten... Something PES3 maybe?

On the matter at had I'm not of much help as I'm a FIFA man when it comes to seventh generation. But from what I have played I thought 2010 was exceptionally poor, with brain-dead AI.

What an incredible response 👍.

I absolutely love WE3FV. The colours, the camera angle and the dribbling all standout. It is a minor shame that this iteration came before gameplay mechanics like the step over and fake shot (I think).

you know, I’d have loved to have all the counterfeit patches in England. There just wasn’t the scene for it over here.
I loved the counterfeit patches, thankfully it's simple to download loads of them nowadays, as the patch community for Winning Eleven 2002 is still surprisingly active, which definitely puts a smile on my face.

I'm sad to say that I haven't been able to play Kaizo's WC2022 patch though... I've downloaded from his blog and it went fine, but when I try to unzip the files it seems that all of them, especially the .bin file, don't want that, I'm thinking of downloading a different software to unzip it, though I'm not too optimistic since I've never had this problem before with any patch I've ever downloaded, it's a shame because this patch specifically looks really well made overall, with all of the kits and players, and I loved the way it played on your footage.

I’ll give you a link to my extracted files. Already unzipped 👍

I think the best thing you can do is to try them all out and decide it for yourself. To me, there isn't a clearly best one in that gen. They are all games with their perks and their minuses.

Reading various comments here, I feel the same about PES in the particular case of PS3 generation, mostly I see them equal especially the versions 11, 12 and 13. PES 2011 has something that PES 2013 doesn't have like very nice nets, or a nice weight feel on the ball, where PES 2013 has also some nice stuff like Player ID for example that in 11 isn't that matured, then the 2012 version was something in between with a faster pace and such, but in the end depends by the personal mood mostly like a rock paper scissors situation. In other hand those previous versions 2008, 2009 and 2010 are a bit different and have less content (especially the 2008 version) though if somebody likes the last trilogy from the PS3 era, I guess will also digest (me included) those previous three versions from PS3 generation, mostly for the sake of different seasons or changing the air a little bit with a slightly different experience...

Overall, I think there isn't a clear conclusion on this regard, for example in my case I have all 6 of them installed on my PC with their original PESEdit patches and I'm enjoying all of them depending also on what I'd like to experience in that specific moment. But on top of that I enjoy the most PES games from the PS2 era (3,4,5,6) with their best patches (3&4 with World Patch, 5&6 with Original Season Patch) not to mention that I have a full hard drive with PES6 patches containing seasons from all eras (1930 to 2023). I don't think I need anything else, Fox Engine PES games (2015-2021) I don't like them or touch them anymore: they don't give me any satisfaction or joy, are very boring, and a waste of time even if those last versions with patches have the best visual fidelity...

Though i wished i had more camera options for Pes 11, its a very good game.
Very fond of pes 12 as well, 13 is considered the best of that gen, but its way to coast to coast gameplay, very attack orientated.
Still a good set of games

Do you play on PC? There's a good camera mod which I use for PES 2011 (I apply the PES 2010 camera style, but it is entirely customizable)

Played a couple of matches once again in PES 2010, really enjoyed it.

A few things though:
I play with a gameplay mod by Jenkey, which in my opinion improves upon a lot of the issues present in the vanilla gameplay:
- One of the main issues with the vanilla gameplay, like @H_G and others mentioned, is the lack of defensive AI. I believe this gameplay goes to great lengths to correct it. Defenses are much harder to go through.
- Game difficulty is appropriately raised. An issue I noticed with the vanilla version is that even in top player (which is the highest difficulty), games are too easy. I don't consider myself a particularly expert player, but I was handling much stronger teams with ease in vanilla. With Jenkey's mod, the difficulty in Top Player finally feels right in terms of skill level, it's well-leveled and a proper challenge.
- Ball physics are much improved, more realistic one touches, less exaggerated motions.
- I think a major complaint by many players is how unrealistic CPU ball retention is in terms of how hard it is to dispossess (playing tiki taka). I think the gameplay mod creates more errors by the CPU and makes it more realistic.. Their passes are still quite difficult to dispossess, but also I think defensive strategy plays a role here. When defending the CPU, one has to go a bit less for the tackles and try to "cover ground" per se more, which can lead to more interceptions. It's a different defensive strategy.

Also,, I play with kitserver speeder 0.90, which I've found to be the sweet spot. The default game is a bit too fast but speeder solves this issue for me.

All in all, I'm not saying it's a perfect game. Issues remain. The CPU still retains the ball with passing a bit too much, for example. But it does have some really good points IMO. Gorgeous graphics and palette (Yeah.. I am repeating myself here, but I am truly surprised at how good it looks!) much improved gameplay and difficulty with the mod, a very deep Master League, a very nice default wide camera, perhaps my favorite soundtrack in the whole series, and very nice overall presentation. This might not be a popular opinion in PES circles (I know I'm in the minority here), but I actually really enjoy this installment. :TU:

PES2010 was as close to perfection as it gets when it comes to OST, PES2011 was of the same caliber to me, it started getting progressively subpar from that point onward, not that it ever got bad, besides PES2014 maybe, but it never lived up to those standards again to me, even though I do did a lot of the OSTs that came after them.

PES 2010 then 2011 are the best for me.

btw, do you think that the singer get paid every time the game is sold at that time ?
I am not specialist on this subject, but i assume , the Video Game company pays some rights for fair use for some time limit, one year possibly, for the copyrights, to the person, agent, company that manages the copyright.

The only case I've read, that artist is paid per song played, was for an American sitcom, but still not sure, if it applies universal to all tv shows, what content, etc.

Basically, going wide offtopic now, copyright clauses do work very different for each genre, music, sport IPs, cinema, TV, etc..For both sides, for the one who pays and the other who gets paid.

very off topic, and yet not.
when it comes to soundtracks, the very ordinary Mafia 3, a ok game but the soundtrack...
dont think theres a better one in a game out there?
maybe GTA 4/5?

I would swear Vice City and San Andreas have the top soundtrack in GTA saga.

And this coming from someone, that was on PC until GTA IV, so Mp3 player was my companion, put my favourite tracks on the file, always listening whatever i like.

those were stunning too, cant relly remember them since i havent played them in a while.
but, still thinks Mafia 3 is the GOAT

Thanks for all the PES 2010 vs 2011 opinions.

Having now had a good spin back on both, I'm left with the conclusion that every PS2 era PES is better than any PS3 era PES.

I really thought PES 2011 would draw me back in but coming from PES 5 it feels clunky and awkward. PES 2010 feels bare-bones with dodgy AI.

So I'm back on the PS2 with PES 3, PES 5 and I think PES 2008 for a new Master League.

I'm going to be re-downloading @geeeeee 's PS2 PES 2008 option file and USB version. One question geeeeee, do your altered player stats work on a longterm ML with regens etc?

@Flipper the Priest I think you were going to pop over your PES 3 option file. Nit a problem and thanks for the help anyway. It really is much appreciated.
