The Retro FIFA Discussion Thread (All FIFA games by EA are welcome!)

CEP 11 is a great patch, with the most leagues I've ever seen! Unfortunately, I find it to be a bit buggy, with a bit of inaccurate stats and generic faces.. It also has that "blue-green uniforms and/or faces" at times.. But I really think that their ambition should be applauded (all European Leagues, 10 South American Leagues and bonus Asian Leagues).. It is a massive patch.

Anyway, I've been really enjoying FIFA 11 PC at the moment. I am playing with a gameplay mod called "FIFA 11 Hybrid Gameplay Mod version 5.0 by Doctor Productions" and there is a lot of variety in CPU playing styles. Still looking for a nice patch, might look into moddingway..

Cher Millos: where did you download that gameplay mod for FIFA 11? I am enjoying those tokke patches but when I try to install that gameplay via the patch selector tool, I crash near the intro screen.

FIFA 11 is highly enjoyable, my only quibble is that gameplay is a bit fast and the action is a little end-to-end for me. Does this mod affect any of that? It’s a proper challenge of a game, though.

Here you go, Monsieur Silver! LINK

I'm not sure it'll be your cup of tea, since it doesn't slow down the gameplay much, but I do find that it does improve the CPU AI significantly (more runs, more cuts from wingers, smarter defense). One thing you could definitely apply is playing on "Slow" in the gameplay options, plus using Cheat Engine Speedhack if it's still too fast! (Just open Cheat Engine, click on the Window on the upper left hand corner, choose the FIFA 11 process, then click on Speedhack on the right., choose your speed and press apply!)

Let me know if you have any other questions bro! FIFA 11 is a great title! :TU:

Dusting off my "old" FIFA games on PS4. For the moment I am playing between 17-18-19. 2017 was my most played since always, and 2018 my less played, actually never played more than 5 matches for some reason, so trying to focus more on 2018. Not sure, but have a feeling that I underestimated a lot this game. Maybe cause of the half arsed World Cup DLC..Who knows. I find it closer to 17 than 19 which I like, and a little bit slower, with a little bit bigger ball, not as big as 19 though, but quite good size.

17 in some matches is as fast as 16 final version. Frenetic fast.

Question for console users. How the heck do we unlock the catalogue items, now that servers went down?

Bonus one of my favourite songs by a FIFA game, an Italian rap?? song from FIFA 17. 😎

As far as I know, you can't unlock the catalogue items on console.

If anyone does know, feel free to advise.

I'm still on FIFA 14 and could do with unlocking the financial takeover as you get nothing at all in terms of prize money.

Just got sacked by Girona. 4 seasons in, all spent in the Spanish 2nd division. Finished 7th, 7th, 6th (smashed in the playoffs by Elche), then was languishing 12th when they wanted promotion.

I just didn't have any cash. Any time I sold someone, one of my other players would want a £10k a week wage increase. Asked the board for more money, got a pathetic £100,000.

My best player was Adri Carmona, he was getting bids of around £8mill, I kept accepting but he never left, must have had about 30 failed attempts to flog him.

I'm going to restart tonight I think. Might go for a bit of a bigger club so the money won't be so much of an issue. I couldn't even afford to send a youth scout out for about 18 months, crazy struggle.

Looking at possibly Sampdoria.

What kills me in those older FIFAs is the height and weight system, being the imperial one and not the metric, and the weekly wages. I am so used to yearly salary that I can't even calculate what can I do with my own wage budget.

As for the catalogue, IIRC I've used the financial takeover once in the past, although the money are better in 17-18-19 , and maybe the one with the scout or the super duper youth talent, can't remember how it was called.

But what I just realised i really need from the catalogue, is the extra cosmetics, old kits, boots and gloves. Playing in Bundelisa2, there are so many teams with only two kits, and sometimes there's a colour clash . The classic kits are more simplistic, and cannot get away the collision.

Agree, it really bothered me that we didn't get to keep those items after they shut down the servers. I played a ton of FIFA between 15 and 19 and had basically everything unlocked. Same with the "Edit Player" feature, I used it quite a lot to customize the appearance of the youth academy players I signed, thankfully I managed to unlock it with that Cheat Engine table in FIFA19 (PC).

FIFA 18 has been my "forgotten title" for a while now! Even though I have it in my collection, it's the FIFA I've least played. I'm not quite sure why, because the exhibitions I've played so far have been enjoyable!

I agree that it's slower than FIFA 17 and 19, honestly I play all of these 3 FIFAS in the same settings, slow pace, World Class, semi passing, Operation Sports sliders with some small adjustments.. To me, 17, 18, and 19 belong in the same "group", not only because they are the same engine, but because all 3 of them play similar in my opinion, which leads me to my question..

I've heard that 18 is one of the "easier" FIFAs, is this true in you guys' experience? I've been thinking of maybe playing my 18 campaigns in Legendary, but I am bit reluctant to do so because in other FIFAs I've found World Class to be the most balanced difficulty. Do you guys find 18 easier than 17 or 19 or are they pretty much similar in terms of difficulty?

Overall, I find 18 very similar to 17 like @slamsoze said. These are definitely titles that I need to explore more, they are the peak in terms of atmosphere and "look" in terms of FIFA I think.. IMO the presentation is better than the newer FIFAs, this is one of 17-18-19's strong points. :TU:

I feel 18 is easier because it's more responsive; what you want to do is usually what the player will do. I find that in 17, players are a bit more stiff. 19 it's a bit more "realistic" because players are prone to make more mistakes than in older versions of the game (bad passing/crossing).

I play FIFA 18 in Legendary and I'd say it's not that hard, and the AI puts up a really, really decent fight.

I messed a lot with slow speed and sliders in the past. For the moment i am back to World Class, normal speed and most settings assisted/semi-assisted, depending on how noob i am. I don't move beyond World Class, as i am in my soft spot for the moment. Ιn 2018 it's more friendly i must admit. 2017 is the toughest World Class for me. 2019 has some matches that are ok and some matches that the CPU scores some volley ball spike headers.

Hey guys, right now I am playing with the Moddingway Patch (17/18 season) for FIFA 14, and I'd like to make some transfers to my team before starting a Custom Cup (In Edit Teams).

Surprisingly though, I believe this feature is disabled in the patch.. I was wondering if there was some kind of workaround, an external editor of any kind, which would enable me to make transfers in Edit Mode.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I've been playing a bunch of FIFA 11 lately, a game that I hadn't played since that year on Xbox 360. I remember liking it then, but it's hitting the spot for me now on PC and is really enjoyable to play. I have lovingly called it PES 7; as a pick up and play game, it reminds me a lot of PES 6, but in FIFA form.

My setup is pretty basic, using the Tokke season patches over on Soccergaming and Vanilla gameplay, with Cheat Engine speedhack at 0.875. It's too fast on regular speed, and this is my sort of "speeder," which I usually am between 0.875 and 0.91 on PES. I tried the Hybrid Gameplay by Doctor and Productions, but went back to Vanilla as I found the ball doing some weird things and the difficulty being a little bit too much at Professional, but not enough on Semi-Pro. On Vanilla, I think it plays just fine and I bumped it up to World Class for a bigger challenge.

I can't defend crosses though for the life of me. If I can get that down, I'll be set.

My favorite FIFA is 14 using these settings. I admire the hell out of 16 and what you guys do with and say about it, but something about the CPU build-up play and laser-guided, accelerating on the down-turn of the ball, and the CPU's spamming of the driven pass just frustrates me enough to stop playing any time I start.

It's great to see these games have a continuing life with all the amazing work being done on them. With the Classic Patch, I can play literally any tournament in history that I want, and FIFA 14 kind of nails it for me as a good vehicle for it.

Bit random maybe, but does anyone have the July 07 edition (issue 007) of the official UK PlayStation magazine? (Ronaldinho on the cover).

I've been trying to find it to see their FIFA 08 preview, as I seem to remember a screenshot with Torres in it I was wanting to see

As promised, this post has been now updated with links (those which are still working as of today!) to "original season" patches for the most recent FIFA games (let's say many Frostbite-based ones).

A little disclaimer before we begin (better safe than sorry, they say):

Note that the choice is solely made on personal judgement.
I'm not saying that FIFER's FIFA 22 Realism Mod isn't worth trying, or that EEP 21 is inferior to FIFER's FIFA 21 Realism Mod.
Truth be told, I'm an EEP fan so I'd choose it over other patches if available... But for example I couldn't find any "original season" EEP version compatible with the latest title update for FIFA 19, FIFA 20 and FIFA 21.

This being said, without any further ado...

FIFA 18 - FIFA Infinity Patch 4.0 (thanks to @Tibokan for gathering and sharing the content, I'm just copying his post here)

Download link: https://mega.nz/file/mQ82BA5a#pJaJKUGw4SBwoVvGMHjnD9DIa4wleh8zdfF3S4wr3KA
Features page: https://gamebanana.com/mods/34583 (this is a link to the v4.0 changelog specifically)
Soccergaming thread: http://soccergaming.com/index.php?threads/fifa-infinity-patch-18.6464831/ (note this thread references the later v5.0 and v5.1 versions of the patch, which are no longer original season as they use the FIFA 19 database and are updated for the 18/19 season).

Special installation notes: This requires the use of CG File Explorer 18 https://dl.fifa-infinity.com/fifa-18/fifa-18-cg-file-explorer/ in order to apply to the game (not Frosty Mod Manager). Follow the instructions provided in the FIP patch to install using CG File Explorer 18. Before running the game for the first time, delete bcrypt.dll from your main FIFA 18 folder and replace with the attached CryptBase.dll file I've provided in the 7zip file attached to this post (without this fix, you won't be able to get FIFA 18 to run at all).

I have tested this on the latest version of FIFA 18 on Windows 10.

Features
  • Unlicensed teams and competitions are now fully licensed (e.g Brasileirao!)
  • Extra teams and some extra leagues have been added (depending on the version of the mod you choose).
  • WC international teams (e.g. Croatia) and Russian WC Stadiums missing from Kick Off mode are now unlocked for use in Kick Off mode.
  • Lots of other additions (such as adboards, scoreboards, stadium name fixes).

Thank you for uploading these, the FIP Patch v4 is exactly what I'm looking for in FIFA 18. Problem is, I only have the installer and not the original game — does the patch only work with the Origin version?

When I try to install the patch, CG File Explorer acts like it says in the instructions, but it also is stuck "loading" the patch files for hours. Worse, I cannot open the FIFA.exe afterwards, so I have to reinstall the game. I only have the crack version because I had a problem with buying it on CD Keys a few years ago.

EDIT: Sorry! I wasn't following your instructions and didn't see the "special installation notes," as that wasn't in the FIP install instructions. I will try that.

EDIT2: Still not showing the patch, but I can play the game, this text isn't making any sense for me:

Alternative Squads File: once you have the patch installed, you need to copy the file “SquadsIconsFIPC” (if you play with “Custom version”), “SquadsIconsFIPB” (if you play with “Brazilian version”), “SquadsIconsFIPG” (if you play with “Greek version”), “SquadsIconsFIPCZ” (if you play with “Czech version”), “SquadsIconsFIPCH” (if you play with “Chinese version”) or “SquadsIconsFIPR” (if you play with “Romanian version”) located in “Squads Files\Squads with Icons” folder and paste it in “\Documents\FIFA 18\settings”. Then, start the game normally. Finally ingame, go to “Profile”, “Load Squads” and select the “IconsFIP C”, “IconsFIP B”, “IconsFIP G”, “IconsFIP CZ”, “IconsFIP CH” or “IconsFIP R” squad file.

Thanks, great slides...but what controller settings should be associated? Tactical or traditional defense? Thank you

I use semi on all assisted controls, but tend to use assisted passing more because even on semi, the passing feels almost manual to me because of the increased passing errors in the slider.

You can use whichever you want, but I use legacy defending. I never got very good at tactical, and since I play a lot of PES as well, it’s just easier to keep all the controls the same. I think matt10 even suggests legacy defending as it’s easier to control your teammates’ positioning that way, but to each their own.

I'm the same as @Silverdome94. I also use Legacy defending as well, even though tactical is more "involved" I just got used to the PES system so it works for me. :)

I also think that the passing error slider is REALLY underutilized. It's a brilliant way to tweak the assistance to make it to your liking! Like Silver said, even on assisted, if you up the passing error slider, it feels more like Semi, and you can also make Semi feel more or less assisted/manual, etc. It's an awesome feature.

Speaking of mods, I highly recommend to use this one for FIFA 14: http://soccergaming.com/index.php?threads/mod-paulv2k4-gameplay-mod.177222/

I was using a slider set which I really liked, but decided to switch to this mod (with default sliders), and it works great. Fixes a lot of gameplay issues for me as well (for example the goalkeeper bug, in which they make very short goal kicks). It also solves the constant pressure by the CPU, which is a bit OP in my opinion in this edition.

Give it a try, I've found it to be a fun and complete gameplay! :TU:

I know it's been said before (likely by me after an edible) but I can't believe we live in an age where we're close to Artificial Intelligence and robots walking among us and we're having to go back to FIFA 19, 16 and way prior just to have a bloody enjoyable football game

it seems we will end up like in terminator 2 or atlas movies sooner then we imagined.

I've been replaying FIFA 16 lately. I couldn't like it. As AI would pass and turn and make decisions way too fast, robot like, few errors, twitchy, even using other's sliders I wasn't satisfied. I have since messed with sliders myself and my passing and shooting settings, it is fantastic. AI are challenging, unpredictable and make realistic errors. Passing for me is loose, but fair and doable. Real risk reward thing with it, as it should be. Shouldn't just be able to mindlessly spam pass with no thought. I edited pass error, speed etc. Moreso shooting is excellent. Variety and you can do many types of shot. The key for me is R1 button alot, as it gives tighter 1st touch and close control/dragbacks to carefully keep possession. Think I slightly prefer FIFA 14 untouched, but as a package 16 is right next to it.

Well, the classics are classics for a reason. I mean PES 5 and 6, FIFA 11, 16 were invented even before all of this, maybe we just don't need a robot revolution but only a good, solidly built game which respects the great offline gameplay..

It's hard for me to understand why in 2024, when the possibilities of creation are huge, football fans have only 1 title at their disposal that has a career mode. And this is basically its only advantage, because the gameplay has been heading in the wrong direction for several years. We are talking about a game simulating the most popular and profitable sport in the world. We should have at least 3-4 high-level games to choose from. The same thing happened with football managers. Only FM remains.... That's why we come back and still play PES 6, FIFA 11 or 16 because they were games created not only for online players but mainly for the career mode. Moreover, there was a lot of competition between Konami and EA sports and that's why they were created after just good games. Now the only hope for this situation to return is 2K and their FIFA

Oh go away with this "I don't want to be raped and murdered by robots" attitude. You'll like it and be happy :APPLAUD:

@TheWolf

Actually, I never said that, all I said is that PES 5, 6, and FIFA 11 and 16 are good offline gameplay games without the need of an AI overhaul.

Anyway, FIFA 19 is a great game too, very solid gameplay in both Manager and Career Mode. :TU:

Hi both, the code required and input location to get the catalogue unlocked offline is well known.

The problem is being able to modify your game files to be able to do it, which modern consoles don’t allow out of the box.

This means you’ll need to have a hardware modified Xbox 360, or a jailbroken PS3 to be able to do it.

It may also be possible on a PS4 and the Frostbite FIFA games assuming that the PS4 jailbreak gives you full read/write access to internal game files (which would mean you can access and modify locale.ini contained in the Frostbite game files in the same way as the below steps, noting that the .big stuff is not applicable to Frostbite).

Note that this cannot be done on the Xbox One, Series X and PS5, as those have not been compromised by modders and they cannot run modified game code.

Steps
Find the locale.big in the FIFA game files, copy to your computer, extract its contents using a .big software tool of your choice, add the following lines to the locale.ini file, save it, and then rebuild the locale.big

Replace the existing locale.big in the FIFA game files on the modified/jailbroken console using a USB stick, and then play the game. Good to go.

Good luck!
