hehee.. no DB I didn't mean like that. I'm not gonna get into OFF-pitch stories as much as you did lol.. maybe something like lets say Kuranyi is not happy at not being played regularly or being subbed off regularly but not far enough to say lets say a player has been arrested for having large amounts of Coke on them hehe.

What I basically meant was cuz I'm not an English man, I can speak fine but my sense of Journalism is nowhere near like you guys so I don't think I'll be able to do it ala Newspaper style (3rd person). I'll probably be TALKING about my team/matches in 1st and just letting you know how its going like in the old days before we all got so high tech hehehe.

Anywyas one story I'm defintely already thinking of is the weak financial situation of Stuttgart. I started game with 5000 and my salary is 13000 so it means a LOT Of wins have to come to risk not bankruptcy and a player sold to make sure.

that means come mid-season if they make good offers for someone like Hleb, Lahm or Kuranyi I'll have to sell :)

I don't know :D. It's wierd. They don't have a really bad team either, in fact they have Pirlo now (Milan bought Xavi instead) so their record is surprising. I can't see them getting out of it.

Sociedad sew up double whilst Simao seals contract extension

An easy 3-1 win on the last day against Getafe was followed up by a 2-0 cup final victory over Levante to ensure the San Sebastian's swept up all the silverware on offer and can look forward to their top flight return with much anticipation.

s3lastgame1.jpg

In the other deciding game, Malaga were always up against it out in the Atlantic, and when Abel Lobaton raced onto a long ball by Teixeira and nodded the ball over the hesitant goalkeeper the die was essentially cast. Levante finished with a 1-0 victory over Espanyol and Albacete finished off Numancia 3-2 in a thriller to leave the final standings looking like this....

Sociedad 30
Malaga 25

-----------
Maritimo 21
Levante 21
Albacete 18
Espanyol 15
Numancia 13
Getafe 9

Season 3 Roll of Honour...

Player of the season - Raul Tamudo (Espanyol)
Top scorer - Nihat (R Sociedad)
Top Assist - Rossato (R Sociedad)
WEFA Final - Real M 3 - 0 Newcastle U
Masters Cup - Valencia 2 - 1 AC Milan

Juventus, Man United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all won their respective leagues, while Sporting Lisbon and Mallorca drop out of the First Division, illustrating once again just how competitive the Iberian League really is.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

s3lastgame5.jpg

Maritimo President Carlos Pereira has confirmed in an exclusive interview with Funchal based newspaper "Journal da Madeira" that Mr Simao has been handed a two year extension to his current contract, commencing immediatedly.

Pereira, just back from Brazil, said that "I am genuinely pleased to be in a position to offer this to the manager, it's not a situation I saw myself in at the end of last season, but our progression since those dark days has clearly dictated my decision. Finishing third is just the catalyst we need to kick start a promotion push and I can sense a new more positive atmosphere around the club that benefits the whole community."

s3lastgame4.jpg

Mr Simao was clearly delighted with the offer which he said "grants me the opportunity to carry on building the foundations for really something special here".

Fans caveats
A voxpop poll of fans run by RTP Madeira also found that 64% of supporters were in favour of the extension, although a number of callers did point to the fact that "He still needs to convince the Madeiran public that he shares their passion and devotion" and that "He needs to take us up, to really prove his capabilities".

s3lastgame6.jpg

There have also been significant developments over Pereira's South american jaunt, with the leaked news that Maritimo had been holding talks with representatives of Juan Carlos Dondé the Brazilan full back currently plying his trade for SV Hamburg.

The left back berth has been area of some concern for a while now with the ageing Eusebio requiring regular injections on a persistent ankle complaint, and the aquisition of Dondé (who is also something of a dead ball specialist) would certainly enhance the growing reputation of the Island club for punching above their weight in the transfer market.

Match Preview: Lecce vs Hellas Verona

Verona's last away trip is a long six hundred mile haul south to the Stadio Via del Mare in Lecce for a midtable clash. Although neither are in the chase for Europe or survival, there are still positions to play for - a win for Lecce could lift them to 8th, a win for Verona could see them finish as high as 9th.

This match marks the farewell game of Sandro Mazzola's career as he retires from Verona's midfield shortly before his 37th birthday. The Hellas captain, who two years ago won the "Mastino Del Bentegodi" (Verona's Player of the Season), will bring an end to six years of service to the club and a career spanning more than two decades.

Lecce have held the upper hand over Verona this season, knocking them out of the Coppa Italia at the first stage. They will be hoping to end a satisfactory season on a high with a win in front of their home fans, possibly sneaking into the top half of the table if results go their way.

traininginjury.jpg

Team News...

Lecce midfielder Cristian Ledesma is a doubt for this one and will probably not be risked, perhaps to the benefit of out-of-favour Sam Dalla Bona. Winger Papa Waigo should start against his former club.

The visitors' only injury worry is defender Dario Biasi, who was stretchered off against relegated Lazio last week and may require surgery in the summer. Marco Mancinelli may start in midfield, after the fringe player has shown surprisingly good form to fight his way into first-team contention, and there may also be opportunities for Andrea Cossu and Antimo Iunco to stake their claim for a place in the forward line alongside Palladino next season.

Aside from Mazzola, this could also be the final game for Verona for Benito Carbone, with rumours suggesting that the 34 year old's contract may not be renewed this summer.

Serie A Table

08 38pts Sampdoria
09 36pts Brescia
10 36pts Lecce

Hi mate - yes to both.

I am not sure if your player needs to have been transfer listed before other teams can buy him i'm afraid.

As for loan deals - Ive onky had one, when Manduca went to Deportivo La Coruna for a season long loan in my first season, again I'm not sure if his stats increased at all during this loan period

cheers

Yep, aimed for survival and achieved it, so that's fine for now. Palladino has done well - scored six goals and will probably finish as the team's topscorer despite only joining halfway through the season. If we can find him a partner it would be nice, but the midfield is more in need of strengthening than the forward line at the moment, particularly now Mazzola is retiring.

Donde and Da Silva sign on the dotted line

dondedmds.jpg
Donde, Simao & Da Silva pose for the cameras

With the safety net of a two year deal, Mr Simao feels that the next priority is to ensure the squad is large enough to cope for a promotion push.

The aquisition of Jean Carlos Donde from Hamburg bolsters the left back berth, whilst improving the midfield with the signing of NAC Breda's impressive youngster David Mendes Da Silva represents two key steps to achieving this aim.

1966319437_1999999260_MendesDavid01_pro192-221.jpg
Wily and wiry - Simao expects a Silva lining

Da Silva although Dutch, is of Portuguese parentage and it appears this linkage is what persuaded him to try his luck in the Iberian League, where his hard work ethic and fitness could prove decisive in the months ahead.

Collins%20Mbesuma.jpg

At the other end of the field Maritimo's top transfer target is Zambian scoring sensation and current South African player of the year Collins Mbesuma.

Unfortuantly the players profile hasn't gone unnoticed in Europe where several German clubs are already considering making an offer to his club Kaiser Chiefs, in which case the Portuguese could turn their attentions to De Graafschap's Mamadou Zongo.

The Burkina Faso international is reputed to be stalling in contract negotiations with the Erivdivisie club after the departure of their much loved English coach, and the possibility of a cut price deal remains realistic.

Match Report: Lecce 2 - 1 Hellas Verona

Lecce achieved their goal of a top-half finish with a victory over Verona on the final day of the season, aided by defeats for both Sampdoria and Brescia.

Alex Pinardi, whose conversion to left wing has been one of the highlights of Lecce's campaign, opened the scoring on 31 minutes when he burst onto a loose ball and beat Pegolo with a low drive. It was Pinardi who then provided the cross for Senegalese winger Papa Waigo to glance home a second goal on the stroke of half-time, just reward for Lecce's domination of the first half in which Pinardi and Vucinic had missed chances to extend the lead.

The visitors improved in the second half with the arrival of six-goal striker Palladino in place of Cossu, but were unable to gain more than a consolation strike. Mancinelli's 82nd minute cross found Antimo Iunco darting across his marker at the near post to angle a header goalwards, but it was too late to rescue a point. Despite the defeat, 11th position marks Verona's highest league finish for six years, a satisfactory eleven points clear of relegated rivals Chievo.

Good stuff db. What sort of role will Da Silva be taking on in midfield?

hi mate

well he can play DMF or CB but he's too small for the back really so definetly it'll be in the midfield. Matabuena's done ok in that position but he was really only a stop gap signing, plus his temper gets the better of him sometimes. I'm hoping that Da Silva can be my version of Arsenal uncovering Viera - a player who nobody really knew about - but went on to become a crucial part of the team.

Basically i feel the squad needed enlarging to cope with what i hope will be a succesful promotion campaign!

Avançado Akin assina por tres anos

Maritimo have delved into the bargin basement to secure the free services of Ibrahim Akin and Nourreddine Semghoun from Besiktas and Hertha Berlin respectively.

Akin is a young up and coming offensive midfielder who has been on the verge of the Turkish squad for some time, but has found his opportunities at the Istanbul based club somewhat limited. Simao sees him as an understudy to Pacheco and in particular thinks that his agility and technique could be capable of unlocking tight defences.

semgjoins.jpg

Semghoun was down the pecking order in Berlin, and given the opportunity to carve out the number one spot at Maritimo, the tall jug eared keeper had no hesitation in agreeing to a 4 year deal.

tonelleaves.jpg
Tonel - decided on move to the capital

That leaves the balance sheet looking reasonably healthy, with the outlay for Mendes da Silva 4500 and Donde 3500 being supplemented by 3876 received from Sporting Lisbon for centre back Tonel, who had found himself increasingly frozen out of first team affairs.

NELSON-SOUSA.jpg

Finally 3rd choice goalkeeper Nelson Souza has also been released. Never able to break into the first team and unwilling to sit in the reserves for another season, the club decided it was in the player's interests to let him seek out another team.

Transfer Update

pereyrapress.jpg

Verona Unveil Pereyra

Hellas Verona announced the signing of Guillermo Ariel Pereyra at a press conference today. The midfielder completed his switch from RCD Mallorca for €5.6 million, signing a three year deal with the Italian club.

"I'm looking forward to playing in Serie A", claimed the 26 year old, speaking through a translator. "I hope we can push on for European qualification this season and I'm very excited to play in Verona".

Pereyra spent two years in La Liga with Mallorca, who brought him over from Argentina after he had impressed at River Plate. The move to Italy follows Mallorca's poor 15th place finish last season, which prompted the Spanish club to sack head coach Hector Cuper and thus sparked rumours that Pereyra was unhappy with the treatment of his fellow countryman. Verona, meanwhile, needed a replacement in midfield for Sandro Mazzola and were willing to make Pereyra their top earner.

Further news...

Making room on the Hellas wage bill is the official departure of Benito Carbone, whose contract expired last week. The veteran's eighteen months in Verona saw promotion from Serie B, an appearance in the Serie B Cup final and survival in Serie A, but he was deemed surplus to requirements this summer as the club look to build on that success. Carbone has stated in the past that he hopes to finish his career at his hometown club of Reggina.

Striker Erjon Bogdani may also be leaving after he handed in an official transfer request. The big Albanian has a year left on his contract but wants out of Verona, unhappy that he has been relegated to the bench.

These events have left Verona shallow in depth in attack, paving the way for the call-up of 17 year old forward Nicola Morini to the senior squad. Local boy Morini set goalscoring records in the youth team and has been handed the number sixteen shirt in his quest to make his mark on the big time.

summertour.jpg

Maritimo today announced they are due to visit England and the Netherlands in a pre-season tour, jetting off from Santa Cruz airport shortly before midnight tonight.

In a 5 match sequence, they will take on Birmingham City, Aston Villa, Everton and Manchester City before taking a short flight to Rotterdam, where they will face Dutch opposition for the first time.

With Mr Simao happy with his summer spending, it will mean the whole squad can get to know each other and bond in preparation for the potentially succesful season ahead of them.

The Madeiran's British tour got off to the perfect start today with a suprisingly comfortable 2-0 win at a half full St Andrews.

Bruno Alves and Edgar notched the goals as Donde, Semghoun and Akin all made their debuts, with the Turk in particular showing some neat touches.

After the game, there was also a potentially embarrasing cultural 'incident'
after Raymon van Emmerik mistook the Midlanders MD as a PR girl and attempted to chat her up.

Luckily Mrs Brady saw the funny side, and the Islanders can move onto Villa Park with a growing sense of confidence, free from any libel suits.

Serie A 06/07 Season Preview

hellasbadge.jpg

Hellas Verona

League Position: 11th
Coppa Italia: First Round

Hellas Verona returned to Serie A as favourites for relegation yet proved the critics wrong by avoiding the drop with relative comfort. Their task this season will be to consolidate that position with ambitions of a top-half finish.

Off The Pitch...

Well accustomed to the process of bouncing up and down between the two divisions, Hellas appeared to cautiously budget for another swift return by refusing to spend in the transfer market after their promotion. Once surivival looked likely, things changed. €5.25 million was successfully spent on Raffaele Palladino, who top-scored for the club last season despite only arriving in January, and the recent addition of midfielder Guillermo Pereyra brings the total spending to €11 million. President Pastorello clearly now sees this team as something to risk investing in.

On The Pitch...

Slow and steady Verona are far from spectacular to watch, but their defensive frugality does give them the capacity to cause upsets such as that 2-1 victory over champions Juventus last year and draws with the likes of Milan, Roma and Inter. Much of this was accredited to goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo, who emerged from obscurity with some spectacular displays and often saved his best nights for the biggest teams. His reward of the 2006 "Mastino Del Bentegodi" was justified.

pegolofront.jpg
Pegolo's form between the sticks remains crucial for Verona

In front of Pegolo in the centre of a back three, defensive leader Alberto Comazzi remained composed and resolved in the face of world class opposition, and it is surely only a matter of time before one of the bigger clubs takes notice of his reliable defensive abilities. In the meantime, Comazzi will take over from Mazzola as captain of his current side.

Pereyra's arrival should add a touch of class and technical ability to the midfield, but it will not solve their lack of pace. Verona's flat and unadventurous four across the middle, where Gennaro Del Vecchio puts in the donkey work in the centre and Luciano and Melis operate the flanks, offers plenty of experience but little athleticism or flair.

It's also notable that the lack of full-backs inherent to this 3-4-3 formation means that Hellas are caught out when faced with flying wingers. It can work against the narrow formations of Milan, Inter and Juventus but clearly struggles with the aggressive width of fellow midtable sides such as Atalanta and Lecce, and it could be this that stops Verona from breaking ahead of the competitors around them.

Prediction: 10th

Well, I'm finishing my 6 season with Northampton Town. Its a very sucessfull team at the momment. His coach Mr. Genman Burbank is close to sign a new four-seasons deal with the club. Actually he have the follow players in the squad:

1st team -
GK - Carini
CB - Kompany (Captain)
CB - Terry
CB - Mexes
CMF - Fabregas
CMF - Vomme
RMF - J. Morrinson
LMF - Murray
OMF - Rosicky
CF - Ollerano
CF - Gilardino

The best player of the squad is the argentinan Ollerano, 21 years old and he came from the youth squad. Just absolute world class player. He grab his 140º goal in last match against Chelsea, unfortunately Northampton lose this game for 2 x 1 and knocked out of 1º Div Cup in the semi-final round.

But the supporters are very happy with the team. Northampton can win his 3º title of WEFA in the currently final match against AC Milan.

pegolosave.jpg

Pereyra Inspires First Win

Hellas Verona came back from a goal down to win in Siena last night, much to the credit of midfielder Giullermo Pereyra. The Argentinian struck twice in the second half, a long range rocket in the 58th minute followed by a delicate little chip over the goalkeeper five minutes later.

Siena had started the better of the two sides, when Alberto cut inside and blasted home the opening goal in the 18th minute, but when Verona's Morini was felled in the box it gave Raffaele Palladino the chance to equalise from the spot just after half-time. Man-of-the-match Guillermo Pereyra then took control, netting his first goals for the club after his summer move.

Pereyra's double sealed Verona's first victory of the season, ended their eight game winless streak and lifted the team from 14th to 8th in Serie A. Verona's sudden climb up the table from those three points is testament to just how tight the table is, with the bottom nine clubs all congested within two points of each other.

Morini Eager For More

Teenage striker Nicola Morini expressed his delight over his full debut in Siena yesterday. "I'm pleased with how I played and glad that the team won", he said. "I've come on as substitute a few times but being named in the starting eleven was a special moment."

The eighteen year old was handed his first full start and lasted the entire ninety minutes. Veronese born and a product of the Hellas youth system, Morini is eager to make an impact in Serie A. "I'm happy that the coach gave me the chance and I hope he will continue to show faith in me. I'm still developing and learning all the time, but I always feel confident that when I'm on the pitch I can make a contribution."

Morini will face competition from Andrea Cossu and Antimo Iunco, who was rested against Siena, for a place in the side.

Guys I started with spurs with my own file and struggliny REALLY REALLY BAd. I've scored 4 goals in 9 matches with 1 win 5 draws and 3 losses.

I'm 14th I think and just not creating enough chances per match and often outplayed. I think this is due to game being much harder and the opposing team's defence harder to break down due to having removed all the stupid arrows on them which made them go out of position and easier for us to counter. Anyways I hope things get better for my team :)

p.s. Nerf, the xbox version is now available by the way.

PLF: Yeah, I've downloaded it. I'm reluctant to use it yet though, because I don't want to disrupt my Verona ML. When I eventually get bored of this ML I'll use it as the basis for my next one :)
