yes, feels like a totally different game at times, more like demo 2

Sounds interesting. I'll have a go at it tonight when I get in then.

I must admit though, I'm pretty sceptical about this latest patch being a game changer.

Plus I got MW3 on Saturday so it's going to have to be one HELL of a patch to keep me off that all night! :SMUG:

Really? Did you watch Real Madrid vs Osasuna? There were at least 8 players parked behind the ball and at the edge of the penalty box. This was throughout the entire match, regardless of the score. This is what people complain about in PES. I can find more examples too.

Osasuna equalised with a quick free kick with their only shot of the half from a nothing free kick on the edge of the box. On PES you guys would be screaming about scripting and what crap it was.

It's not that some things in PES are unrealistic, it's that people don't want to see some things in a computer game. Fair enough, but don't pretend it's something else.

Of course, but I dont expect the CPU to park 8 players behind the ball when they're defending against Ettori, El Moubarki, Shimizu, Ribeiro, Hamsun...

Scripting is there for all to see. I can't complain when the CPU scores from their only shot in the game. I have no problem conceding a good goal, but sometimes you feel cheated.

Dont get me wrong, I love PES, way more than FIFA and it's heartbreaking to say FIFA 11 was miles better than PES. I only bought PES for 2012 and I play this thing since WE3. Scripting is a feature that dates back to the early days. Also, talking again about the game you've mentioned, Osasuna parked the bus, but still lost 7-1.

I've got no problem with an inferior team parking the bus against me, but christ, I play Ligue 1 almost exclusively, and even Lille (which is a machine in this game) defended the whole game. This against a team composed of a bunch of 60's-70's, they being league leaders, which makes no sense. Man Utd will not play defensive against Swansea away. On PES they would.

New patch 1.02 is available to download. Game is much better!!! Slow pace and passing on 0 assits feel like manual. Check it because feeling of the game is relly good right now!!

Sound so promising. I will test it tonight anyways. Hope that on a week from now this comment doesn't transform to "demo 1 is way better!!!"

No offence mate but you signed up with a username called PES 4 lyfe and have had that many posts here trying to justify to yourself why you should or shouldn't play it when you already were happy with FIFA.

If you didn't give it a chance now, are you really going to trust the opinions of others if they tell you some patches have made the game better? You've already been persuaded not to like the game based on other people's opinions.

Don't mean to sound rude but you should really give something a chance and if you truly don't like it, forget about it for the year and check it out next year. I did the same with FIFA 11 and never looked back. This year I have kept both games.

I thought I was overly analytical about making a new purchase but you're making me look like a really decisive guy haha :P

Silly I know but its a time/money thing. I only have 30 days to retun from when I bought. AND I only have time to play 1 football game seriously.

Also good thing is if I get bored of FIFA 12 byJanuary buuying Pes will be like buying a new game and I will not need to worry about which I want to play. If Im so bored off FIFA esepailly offline modes I can start PES offline and save fifa for occasional online game.

I think overall it will work better?

In saying that it only cost 18.00 for PC so maybe I should just keep it?

I actually dusted off the PS2 and started a PES5 ML last night. Its a bit of a shock to start with but once I got over how restrictive the movement and passing was it became very enjoyable. I played 6 15min games on 6 stars and enjoyed everyone despite only scoring 1 goal and conceding 4. Chances are hard to create with the default ML players and even harder to put away. Unlike the new game, most matches ended with about 50 - 50 possession but sometimes the CPU would edge it. I was going into match details at the end and seeing that there are times when I had very little of the ball, about 20 - 30% which is very to different to 2012 where I can constantly end matches with around 70% possession.
The AI plays much better than it does now, a far better opponent. Its passing game was soo good at one point it was astonishing, It would run into a dead end and create little triangles with 1, 2's to escape with possession and when all its forward options were closed down it passed it back to defense and started to build up again from the back. This didnt happen very often but it was amazing to see after playing 2012's AI where if it has no options to go forward it just pulls your CB away from the striker and plays a Xavi-esque pass with a terrible player over the top.
The goal keepers are too good, Lothar the default ML keeper was pulling off some incredible saves and hes has keeper skills in the 60's I think.
Individuality is not as good as todays games, its there and noticable but 2012 has more of it.
The dribbling was great, the ball feels really free in PES5. If you run onto it with a player that has poor technique(all of the ML guys!) they boot it miles ahead and its going to get taken. The good dribblers and ones with higher agility really stood out. Again the ball is great, seems totally seperate from the players and it flys all over the place from poor touches and bobbles around when passed along the ground, they went totally backwards ball wise after this game. I was having to always trap it first unless running into acres of space. Some of the players have awful first touches allowing the opposition to close in before I could get the ball under control and do something with it.

PES 5 was soo far ahead of its time, I knew it was a brilliant game then but its even more apparent now. And it was nice to play a game where it seemed as if it was a finished product. Not once did a player get suck in an animation and wander off without the ball. The player switching worked perfectly, I use the manual setting and could always get the player I want and it never got confused as to which player the ball was mean for. The switching in 2011 & 2012 is totally broken compared to this, I understand that the added freedom makes it harder for the game to read what you want but its still not good enough.

If PES5 had 360 movement and passing I would play it until PES2013 and probably after when it inevitably dissapoints. As it is I will probably get a few weeks out of it then be without a football game until the next releases, a few weeks is 1 or 2 more than I got out of 2012 I might add!

You found pes 2012 had beter indivisuality than PES5?

But though you enjoy game you say 1-2 weeks you will no longer play? why? dated animations, dated gfx, just general dated features despite a simple core good gameplay?

I actually bit the bullet and went out and bought FIFA last year because I thought I simply couldn't ignore it anymore. I had read so many enthusiastic reviews and heard so many people bang on about how utterly amazing it was that I caved in and bought it.

I wanted to love it, I really did. I kept it for 3 months and played it almost every day trying to convince myself the hype was right and I was wrong but at the end of the third month I took it back to the shop and traded it.

It was awful. I just could not get into it at all, I dont think I enjoyed a single match I played or goal I scored. I went back to PES. I might try the experiment again this year and buy FIFA 12 but I know exactly what it'll be like and i'll end up trading it again. Sure FIFA is a slick package but it's lacking.......that footballing magic.......something.......I dont know what but I just dont like the game. It's dull.

I actually played PES 2011 over the weekend there at a mate's because he hasn't bought 2012 yet and I'm telling you all now that game is A LOT better than 2012. The graphics are much better and the gameplay is responsive, slick and above all actually FUN to play. I started enjoying scoring goals and playing smooth passing football again.

Konami have flushed 12 months of development right down the toilet. They're going to have to start all over again now. At least I hope they do.

I have PES 2011 kinda unplayed also which is why I was thinking to retun pes 2012. Last year I bought fifa nad pes 2011 and never played 2011 what a awaste of monye?

Maybe I should play 2011 and return 2012 pes? If 2011 is as good or better?

Alright, so here are some 1.02 impressions, after one game - OGC Nice, with default ML players, against Bordeaux, French Cup, 10 mins, Top Player (please consider I've got over 100 hours of 1.01 in Football Life):

- The CPU is not infalible anymore. It looks like even the best of forwards WILL miss a clear-cut chance from time to time. At least Bordeaux's forwards lol.

- Height used to be a factor in Corner Kicks, but it seems a MUCH bigger factor now. I've won the game 2-1, and on both of my goals I positioned my tallest forward (Ribeiro and Hamsun) at the near post. They won both headers.

- Ball physics on headers have improved, at least on both goals I've scored. They dont look like balloons anymore.

- CPU still parks the bus - Bordeaux left nine men behind the ball and only their CF was lurking in the central circle. Even so, it seems easier to pass and create goal opportunities because your players are moving better when off the ball (one game impression, gotta test that one out better)

- Shooting feels the same. GK's look improved, but not that much.

- CPU still plays counter-attacking football, but now they're more error prone. Intercepted many astray passes on this match, and against a good team.

- CPU forwards are easier to tackle. I've managed a few good clean tackles even by just pressing X onto 50-50 balls.

That's it for now.

Yeah 2012 has more individuality than PES5, alot more.

I have played PES5 to death mate, thats why I doubt I could get more than a few weeks out of it. I have played countless ML's and won everything with superstar teams and teams where I had a limit on wages and tranfers, I even won the Champions league with a team of under 20's. Theres nothing left to do.

I would stay clear of 2011, it has many of the same problems as 2012 and more.

I know hwat you mean as much as I love PEs3-5 and pes6 I cant play them for any lenght off time as Ive done it all. I mean I played these games 5 hours per day 7 dyas per week 365 days when younger.

If pes 2011 is worse than 2012 thats good news I guess in that I can just forget about it.

I will play only FIFA 12 until JAn then review the situation.

cheers, brb in january to see how things are going

Ok so it seems I may have rubbed up some people the wrong way. Sorry lads. Just was getting a bit fed up of complaints (in general) where I felt they were only partly justified or occurred less frequently than people make it out to be. Moods swing wildly around here sometimes lol

Regarding the lack of control over shots - it appears that sometimes the AI gives you an automated shot selection. Good or bad I noticed this on PES 2011 also. For example, last night I hit a shot with Rooney from the corner of the penalty box by only pressing shoot but he tried curling it bottom corner. Looked great and I didn't mind the shot being that type because the direction and power was still how I wanted. I can understand sometimes closer in it might over-ride your shot type but it seems to happen when the AI thinks a particular shot type would be more effective perhaps? Not sure to be honest. One of those mysteries!

Patch 1.02 - stumble bug gone? Ball heavy again? Manual passing fixed? Active AI reactivated?

If it's demo 2 again I'll be well happy with that. I'll be able to tell after 1 match of America vs Internacional.

For the record, the full game was cack imo v1.00 and v1.01. But I loved the demos.

Stumble is still in, Manual Passing seems better but not sure it's what everyone wants, 1-4 bar just seem weird where the power bar doesnt seem to have any effect still? Active AI is back.

Active AI is definitely back. My forwards are making some nice runs here and there and I'm creating more clear-cut chances atm.

Well folks looks like im trading PES in today for Fifa, after extensive play the gameplay is boring me to tears and the animations are killing the immersion for me and the sound has me baffled as to how it can be so bad.

Downloaded the demo of Fifa last night and got the camera view as close to PES as possible (PES wide camera is perfect) and it was really enjoyable and the shooting was incredible and of course it has good animations, graphics and good sound to boot.

PES has been good while it lasted it's the first PES in 4 years that i have kept for 2 months but enough is enough.

Roll on PES 2013 - The Return Of The King :)

its a difference with the new patch. Before it wasnt even playable for me, but even with the new patch i still prefer pes 2011 cause its more open play. On 2012 the back four in the cpu team always fall back to the penalty area too fast, so the games plays the same every game. You keep passing around the penalty area to find some small space to put the ball in or put it out on the side to make cross in. OK if there is 10 mins left and the cpu are ahead with 1-2 goals and they fall back but this happens from beginning of the game to the end, and it sucks, really ruin the game.

Some questions about PES:

1. Just how many patches are Konami going to release for this game?

2. Will they EVER get it right?

3. When are they going to come clean and tell us all they fucked up royal?

4. Are the people who never tire of telling us "that doesn't happen to me" blind, deluded or just plain stupid?

Answers on a postcard.....

Answers on a postcard.....

1. Who knows and does it matter - I dont think this game is fixable 9PC)
2. Probably not - how many years have we had next gen? I think its shockingly bad
3.Never?
4. People are loyal to the brand and its the same with FIFA. Some people will simply refuse to try the other which is a shame as you miss out. FIFA is hands down the better game, totally customizable, better looking, better sounding, more exciting..I could go on but then you get labelled a fanboy. But as the owner of both games I know which one I'll be keeping

I tried both, having not had a peek at FIFA for a good number of years.
Was surprised how polished the contents were........then came the gameplay,
Oh dear, what a letdown.Half a dozen games and that was more than enough.

I think the amount of patches and fixes konami have already sent out proves the game was never tested or even ready.
FIFA came out a lot earlier than in previous years and it's clear that konami shat themselves.

I loved the game on Professional post patch, thought it was fantastic, now it's too easy and has become a little boring to be honest. I increased it to Top Player and the AI pressuring is terrible. Within 2 seconds of controlling the ball you'll be tackled by two players simultaneously, making dribbling almost impossible. Rebounds seem to fall perfectly for the AI almost every time, I don't think I've managed to win a single header in either penalty area in half a dozen matches, so there's no happy medium for me.

I stand by my praise for many aspects of the game, defending is still miles better even on Top Player, but I draw almost all my games except for the odd defeat due to late 'dodgy' goals I couldn't do anything about, and I'm barely registering a single shot on goal in most games.

Seriously, having a game that's too easy and then the next step up, way too hard is not the way to go. I still can't get over the AI pressing. Even Ashley Young gets the ball in about 20 yards of space down the wing, does speed burst, then knocks it ahead of him into space and flat out sprints, yet before I even reach the penalty area FOUR AI defenders have managed to mysteriously eat up 20 yards on the guy and even block his cross. With FOUR pressing defenders.

The problem is that when a pacey winger from the CPU team takes a ball 20 yards away from your defender, there's nothing you can do to stop him and he'll get the cross. Pace actually works correctly when the AI is on the ball.

When you're on the ball, pace doesnt work. Some fucking 60 OVR with 70 for speed WILL outpace Nani on a 20 yard space.

Perhaps we could pester Konami for an intermediate difficulty level, i.e. between pro and top player.

i think it's easier for them to add assistance lobbies than a new difficulty level
and, quite frankly i think it would be the best option for me and many people
a good balanced online is far better than offline gaming

anyway i suggest ltfc to play on superstar difficulty, i think it's more balanced than top player

Which is funny because people complain about PES needing to find the right balance by using different gamespeeds/patch numbers and camera angles. Yet they have no problem trying to manually find the balance with the sliders on FIFA? Very similar issue in my opinion. Both games can play differently from out of the box with some tweaking and neither are necessarily to everyone's taste out of the box.

I've played every FIFA and own the current FIFA 12. Initially I thought wow this is good. And it's extremely well polished and sliders can make a difference...to an extent. There's something that still distracts me from the overall flow of the game.

I'm not sure if what I describe is relating to inertia/momentum or whatever some people point out but there's something about the way players turn which is very stop start. Whilst some of the animations in PES aren't as good, I find the dribbling and turning with a player, even at slower pace feels fluid whereas on FIFA it's like a hard stop then a continuation. Appears that the general turning circle (without using close dribble) is not really in 360 degrees but more like 8 or 16 directions.

And even though you can make players run with LB/L1 or with run frequency sliders, there's often times when they're too static still. It's a shame because the shooting is really good but it loses its value when you're building up the play in similar patterns all the time.

Sure I guess though I have not experimented much with PES and they dont have sliders for every aspcet like FIFA does. People that are messing with PES are usign custom built tools to edit stats etc?

only options in PEs is game speed and pass assistnace bars not much options at all.

FIFA sliders are easy to mess about with and allow people to make the game how they like it. People ahte my sldies and have totla opposite but love them. to each their own. The sliders allow the user to make their own unique single player experience. Which is pretty cool.

Thats what I said about fifa 12 and others disagree.

You can socre many types of goals in FIFA 12 and from all angles and go for games with no 2 goals the same. but IMO the build up play from box to box plays out almost the same every move.

a. counter attack from half way line 2v2 1v1 etc..

b. pass thorugh middle thrugh ball or long shot

c. pass down wing cut inside or cross

that is how every move/attack on FIFA is.

But in reality how varied are attacks anywyay?

And even though you can make players run with LB/L1 or with run frequency sliders, there's often times when they're too static still..

IMO this realies alot on custom tactis and indiviual players also.

You have to set your custom tactics to free form and attacking and open play and players with high aggression, attack, stmaina etc will make more runs.

I've not played PES 2012 since I got to uni (nearly two months ago) and that was on the Xbox 360 demo, so I can't really comment on the full game.

However, I have played quite a bit of FIFA 12 because some of the lads in my halls play it, and it is definitely still lacking in the gameplay department.
I won't go into specifics right now, but there is no "spark" - to me it just feels like a rigid and mechanical video game.

There's something about PES which immerses me in the experience and captures the essence of football.

I really wish I could appreciate FIFA as much as most other people (and the media etc.) seem to, because when you look at it in terms of content, licenses, features, visuals etc. PES really does pale in comparison.
