It's hardly a complicated shooting system is it? Hold R2 and press the direction you want the shot to go with the required power aint rocket science so how exactly do you think I'm "doing it wrong"?

If you're holding down R2 and then shooting, you are doing it wrong. Try tapping R2 after you've powered up the gauge.

I'm not totally convinced by the shooting in this game and I certainly do have some issues with it, but it's nowhere near as bad as some people seem to think.

@Pes4lyfe

When i play FIFA 12 i feel wow this game technically looks superb but without fun. I mean the game technically is brillant but game play is so much boring for me.

In my opinion FIFA feel exactly like in PS2 days but smart move from EA was created SUPERB animations engine which totally change looking into the game. Look for FIFA 12 in particular on assist passing and imagine animations from PS2. Game play will be looking exactly the same shit like in PS2. Smart EA, smart, smart...

I felt that way exactly and was redy to return the game

UNTIL

I edited the sliders. Read my initial posts. I hated FIFA 12 and slated the game.

Since I messed with sliders, amazing turnaround, a game that looks good and plays good

Ah well, Jimmy is adamant there is absolutely no problem with the shooting and that it is in fact my own fault for not mastering the incredibly complicated (pffft) shooting system. Press down or up for direction and then press R2? Hold the button in for power? WOW! I never thought of trying that! Oh wait, I did because I'm not a 12 year old who has never played PES before and cannot read an instruction manual!

I guess me and everyone else who have complained about it just aren't as good at PES as Jimmy is eh?

No one is saying these goals are impossible Jimmy so you can post all the examples you like, it wont make any difference. What we are saying is that the shooting is INCONSISTENT and ERRATIC. Now I know you're probably thinking that real life shooting can be both of those things but PES does not manage to replicate that. It merely feels broken at times, especially when you press up to find one corner and your shot goes into the opposite corner.

We're not making this up to annoy you Jimmy, it has actually happened to me and plenty of other people. Read the comments and you'll see that.

The fact that you have never seen it is baffling to me but I'm happy for you. Really. Maybe you're happy to explain it away when it happens to you and take the blame yourself for Konami's dodgy code. Who knows?

There's no point arguing about it or trying to "prove" it. All I can tell you is I know for a fact what I'm pressing on my control pad when I press it and I also know for a fact that the game does not respond the way it should to those button presses 100% of the time.

I've not truly felt this for a while with PES. That satisfying feeling when you put together a move a score.

Fifa 12 has actually given me many of these moments already and I seriously never ever thought I would say that about a Fifa game. While Fifa 12 is far from perfect it does at least give a true feeling of the ball and players being free and separate entities. This freedom allows for many different types of goals to be scored and for all kinds of randomness that used to be associated with PES.

AGreed but in PEs 2012 in last 2 days sicne I bought I have once again had those pulled off a great move and finish that got me off my seat. especailly to make 2-1 etc..

Sure it was norm for old PES but pes 2008 onwards I never had those special moments when scoring.

Though as for FIFA 12. Im constantly jumping around man with some amazing goals I score and amazing games.

Though I have hope for PES 2012 the more I play the more I enjoy. Only played 2-3 dyas so far to early to judge. I was ready to bin fifa 12 after 1-2 weeks.

That's the problem, holding down diagonal can easily be registered as right. Which would mean they would hit it straight down the keepers throat. If you consider how the penalties were last year from the side-on view, and that's the exact same technique you need to use.

Wait so If I'm running toward the goal on wide cam, and aim my stick say far left towards the fans, I'm doing it wrong? I'd push up for Left and down for Right?

:CONFUSE:

It's been like that since PES 1 mate!

Something is definitely not 100% with shooting though. In this iteration it's either 100% down or 100% up on the analog to register your direction. In earlier games it has always been near enough a 180 degree range of aim, with Up, Up-Right, Right, Down-Right, Down and all inbetween.

Every game has required a bedding in period to get to grips with body positioning, timing and what amount of power is required, but none of them before PES 2012 had changes in the aiming system.

I can understand complete miss kicks and skews when off balance, and skying shots from applying wrong amount of power. But I can't accept shots veering off to the complete opposite corner, with the player's body shape suggesting they intentionally placed it there as well despite input from the user of the opposite corner. Gauging power isn't a problem for me anymore, but scoring perfectly placed efforts in the top left despite aiming far right is really detracting for me. That's in conjunction with any shot not aimed far left or far right being registered as straight down the middle.

There's either an issue with the game not recognising input from the user correctly, or an intentional attempt from Konami to reduce the effectiveness of shooting, thus covering keeper errors.

Ive said for a long time that if EA managed to replicate Konamis "goalscoring" magic then PES would be finished.

Konami have helped as well by not making a great game since PES 5&6.

Fifa really has got the shooting right this year. It has a great feel and weight to it. Whether it be placed finesse shots, long range pile-drivers, low daisy-cutters or headers - the system responds to your input and just feels right.

Hey look, I'm sick to death of people whinging that the shooting is broken just because they cant seem to pull off what they want. PES is technical and you will get the most success if you adhere to the fundamentals of the real-life techniques. PES also does tinker with the shooting from year to year, it keeps things fresh and sometimes you do have the re-learn, but that's what keeps it interesting. At all times though, fundamentals are paramout. The classic yearly PES change-up is the shooting with regards to how much power is required from your de-press. Konami alternate this from year to year, as I've mentioned quite a few times. PES 2008 more power was needed to get the same result, PES 2009 was the opposite just a slight de-press. PES 2010 more power, PES 2011 less, PES 2012 more. That's why, every year the complaints alternate. This year it's 'Shooting is shit, you cant hit it hard enough'. Last year was 'I keep skying my shots over the bar, shooting is shit'. It happens every year without fail. Then people catch on.

I play against the A.I, and the footage I've just captured was against the A.I., albeit 2-player. I'm not buying some bullshit excuse it only happens in ML, thats rubbish. I play CL and have no problems.

A few tips that may help you. When coming square one-on-one, (Attacking to the right-end of the stadium) tap the shoot then hold down up for the keepers right-hand side, or down for the keeper's left-hand side), then tap R2. Just like in real-life, your consistency will increase if you slow down before attempting the placed shot. It's possible at the end of a sprint, as shown in the video I'm going to show, but it's better to get the ball closer to your body for the more precise placement.

Also, always be aware of the players preferred foot and technique, I'm sure this is already obvious though. Make sure the angles are correct and relevant, although PES gives the better rated finishers alot more lee-way in this regard and compensates. I feel many people maybe pushing the pad or stick in the corners, rather than up and down, and also not holding long enough.

The video footage I've just taken highlights all the R2 control shots from differing angles. I tried to cover as many as possible in the short time I've just had, and it's also not easy to create 1-on-1's due to the other players CPU A.i. I caught all the footage you will need though. I used Bolton, an average team with average strikers. Davies scored a few, better strikers will find the corners alot more consistently, but Kev had no real issues. I even scored one with a 68 rated DMF with shooting accuracy below 70. He obviously didnt place it right in the corner, but it was close enough. I also captured a R2 control shot whilst running at pace, those are obviously less consistent due to the lesser percentage rate of that particular technique. I've included some keeper saves as well, only because I had little time, but the point of the matter was that the ball is still directed and aiming for the far corners, even though the keeper saved it. Also, I've included a Tucay R2 placed shot that I actually over-cooked, I held the direction down for too long.

After all the one-on-one's I decided to add some goals I have scored recently. All completely quashing many peoples complaints about different types of shooting. There is a 30 yard + low driven strike with bend from Petrov, right into the bottom corner. People say that isnt possible. Well, it is. That comes off the back of an R2 'Nutmeg' as well, a superb goal. There are some other long-rangers and free-kicks, then to top it off, a two-player Co-op game highlights of England. Three amazing strikes, two from Gerrard and one from Carroll.

I figured I'd make a little compilation of all the goals and shooting techniques that people suggest are broken. I've called it Myth-Buster, I'll upload it as soon as it's converted, it's on the I-Phone so the app aint the quickest.

Here we go ....

YouTube - PES 12 Shooting 'Myth-Buster'

Puttz, I give up with you. It does for me, end of story. I've gone to the trouble of trying to offer some advice and making a video. If you dont need/want it, then dont use it. But dont try and pull me up on something I know is fine. You have the proof, it took me 10 minutes, and 80-90% of my attempts here are registered.

As I already said Jimmy, posting goals doesn't prove anything! We are not saying it's totally impossible to score those goals so showing that you can proves nothing! It DOES work sometimes but a lot of the time it DOESN'T work to the point where it actually does the OPPOSITE of what you want it to do. I cant be any clearer than that really.

I'll say again, if you dont notice the shooting problems or are happy to explain it away when it happens then fine! I'm happy for you! Just dont expect anyone to watch a video of you scoring goals and say you were right all along because it proves NOTHING.

Put it this way, you are in a very small minority when you say there is absolutely no problem with the shooting in PES 2012. That alone should give you food for thought.

I don't think shooting is broken as such but it does annoy me sometimes when a player literally has the whole goal to aim at, and plenty of time to do it in, and still manages to hit the ball right at the keeper despite it looking harder to do than not do. It'd be like if it happened in the first example of your video. It does happen but not really that often but yeah i can understand feeling aggrieved because it literally doesn't feel like your fault when it does.

The CPU has a really bad habit of doing it more so than me. Yeah i'm relieved that they don't score but it looks a bit stupid. Then again, that could be down to the fact that the computer never actually bothers to take a first touch when receiving the ball in the box, instead opting for a first time shot 99% of the time, so naturally their shots aren't as well placed. Which is kind of what is necessary. It's more so about what you do before the shot (i.e your movement and positioning) than what you do when you actually shoot.

It tells me they dont know how to shoot. And it is common, we are less than 3 weeks into the release of the new game. That video proves everything you arrogant little man, it proves you havent a clue about what your talking about. And for placement shots that are so hard and inconsistent, isnt it a huge coincidence it took me less than 10 minutes to provide many different examples, and all with different players and differing stances, postures, corners and angles ? Guess I just got lucky huh ? ;)

:CONFUSE:

It's been like that since PES 1 mate!

Only time I've genuinely shot like that was with penalties on PES 2011, I usually shoot the way I did in FIFA and for the most part in 2011 it worked fine.

Now that I think about it, when the game is proper moving chances are I'm aiming up left/diagonal and up/right diagonal but never in my life have I aimed the stick backwards AWAY from the goal to hit it right. Not once.

Have I really been doing it wrong this entire time? :FAIL:

Playing Football Manager 2012 now with the odd game on Demo 1. Hopefully the November patch turns the ball back in to a ball! Instead of a balloon that players can outrun!

I can shoot better than PES2012 ML Original players, if I wanted to play football with a player that cack I'd grab a ball and go down the park!

Demo 1 had it nailed, this is such a shame. I hope PES doesn't finish for good because FIFA is nothing like real football and EA are a bunch of assholes!

Active AI, a weighty ball, weighty players and freedom of position, both attacking and defending is what makes the Demo 1 so good! Can't believe that they've removed the lot!

So many top class games either out now or in the next couple of months that PES could be forgotten forever!

Thanks for the demo though Seabass! You won't be getting my money anymore xxx

Shooting works fine. You have to get used to holding the left stick a little longer. I've had plenty of shots go miles wide (nearer to the corner flag!) because I held it in the wrong direction too long. Just practice the mechanics, it will come soon. This game's issues for me lie totally with the lack of individuality of the CPU players. I would give my left nut for them to fix that.

Backwards away from the goal ? I havent dont that since the days of Emlyn Hughes International Soccer, Sensible Soccer or Kick Off.

Up and down on the stick/pad is the largest direction you can apply. Then based on the stats and fundamentals, the ball should aim towards the corner, outside the corner, or inside the corner. Hold it down for too long from distance and the ball will fly far left or far right of the target.

Jimmy, you need to explain that, like me, you purchased one of the 5 magical, golden ticket, Willie Wonka versions of the game outsourced by Seabass to the Umpa Lumpa's. How dare you show a video proving that shooting isn't broken? I also noticed in that little video of yours that there weren't 9 defenders camped in the box against you at all times and you actually scored on breakaways! What type of satanic ritual did you use to conjure up this magical outcome when everyone in this thread can't ever score on a breakaway because that mean, cheating AI is always parked in their box. I know I could also post a video of me playing a CL tie vs Barca where I was actually able to stop Messi by playing good, sound defense, but what good would that do. Everyone knows my golden ticket version is better and their broken version does not ever allow poor little old them to stop anyone form slaloming through their defense. It's not them who suck at playing defense on PES, it's the games fault.

So Jimmy, can we stop debating shooting? It's so much better to stick in FIFA and within 5 min start knocking shots in with regularity w/o having to actually learn how to shoot or even think much about body positioning or skills or anything ewe.

LMFAO!!!

hahha

as for the shooting in fifa yes its pick up and play, is that a good or a bad thing? Even a newbie can score screamers easily after a few games. Whereas PES takes more effort, kwoldege and skill.

Whats better?

FIFA is simpler PES more complex

Neither is better, it's a matter of personal taste. I just can't stomach folks who play a simple, pick up and play title and act like it's the greatest thing ever. I would never play FIFA and go on FIFA boards and complain that it's too simple and easy to play. That would be like moving to Florida in July and complaining about the freaking humidity! Likewise, coming onto a PES forum and complaining about shooting or defending to folks who aren't seeing these problems because they've learned very intricate and difficult play mechanics is kind of foolish.

There's no shame in saying that you want a game that you can stick into your console and be playing within 5 minutes with minimal frustration. Just don't blame Konami for not giving you the same type of experience when they've never done so!! I've been playing PES12 since launch here in the USA. I've gotten really good at defense and shooting and passing. I rarely see all the problems other folks have with these systems any longer. I was willing to take the time to learn and master the gamplay and am having an absolute blast with PES. I'm not blind or stupid. If I went to shoot right and always shot left. Or if I could never stop any dribbler, I would be the 1st one here complaining about PES. But I completely understand if someone does not want to put in that kind of time. You don't stick in PES and have beutifully weighted, perfectly placed shots out of the box. Thank God there is a game company that gives you that instant gratification.

Good points. PES was never an easy game to pick up and play UNTIL mastered.

Even playing PES3 after PEs 2 or PES 4 after PES3 etc..the shooting system and gameplay alaways always ALWAYS took 3-4 weeks for you to learn and readjust too. And shooting with avergae or below average or non shooting skilled players alwasy reculted in terrible shots with one-off random glory goals. Never expect your centre back to score form 25-35 yards out into corner but get the ball to recoba nad press same buttons, direction and power and BOOM its a screamer.

PES always had 4 factors in shooting.

1. Learn how to shoot- direction, power etc
2. Understand effect of different factors on shooting- body position, placement off ball, pressure by opposition, postition facing, preffered foot? etc.
3. Individual players shooting ability
4. timing- press shoot long enough, correct direction at right instant moment considering all factors.

FIFA was always simple but IMO its more complex and offers more freedom in shooting and passing than ever before with options off assisted/manual offering good choice for casual or hardcore gamers

3-4 weeks to master shooting in old pesses?

It took me 3 or 4 games, every year agin.

Why?

Because since pes 1 the shooting hardly changed. As like many other features of the game.

Dont have this years full game, so cant comment on the shooting. But in the demo 2, i had zero problems in shooting.

I have also posted a few times before to help people with the shooting but it doesn't seem to have caught on :P

As Jimmy said, power up your shot, then hold UP or DOWN to aim for either side. Hold the direction until contact is made with the ball. This is the only method that has worked for me properly. I don't aim like FIFA where I'm running in a direction and just press shoot. I always aim again after the shoot button has been pressed.

I assume the shooting is like free kicks and penalties where the power determines the height and the left stick determines direction - but to the left or right side only, not to a specific corner - that's where the power comes in.

50-75% going in the wrong direction does in fact sound like you're doing something wrong. Trust me, check exactly what you're doing and it could be something simple like taking your finger off the direction before the ball is kicked or not moving the stick directly up or down.

Na thats untrue. The shooting always changed each year. When you buy pes 3 and shoot like PES2 its a joke. Plus so many people complain every new release oh pes3 sucsk pes2 was better, then pes4 sucks pes 3 was best then pes5 sucks pes 4 was best and so on..only for 1st month. Then after 1 month people learn to adapt to the small changes and say hey actually this new one is better.

Well thats what it was like for me and my mates pes1-5 anywyay

When you hit a shot properly on PES 2012 it's miles better than PES 2011. There's more possible outcomes now as a result of the ball physics. On PES 2012 the ball doesn't always carry to the goal and can bounce or move around a bit. On PES 2011 it was generally in a straight line and very rarely hit the ground before reaching the goal.

Shooting definitely has a knack that takes practice. My initial frustrations with 2012 were substantially due to the expectation that I could use 2011 controls. Once I came to terms with the differences I started having fun.

The controls have evolved, and the player must adapt accordingly.

I'm still not too sure about the ball physics - always feels a little 'rubbery' to me. I have seen a lot of very unnatural ball arcs.

Let me get this straight, you're the one telling everyone who has found a problem with the shooting they cant shoot properly because they're too dumb to understand a simple shooting system and I'M the arrogant one? What is it with you people that have to make a discussion about a game personal? Do you have Konami shares? I'm talking about a bug I and many others have found in the game and because you haven't noticed it you're raging at someone who has dared to mention it! I just dont get where that comes from. Unless you worked on the game personally I cant understand why you would take these discussions so personally.

What you are telling me is that you have NEVER seen a shot you have taken go in a different direction to the one you pressed? OK, fine, good for you. I'm telling you I HAVE seen that happen and not just a couple of times either. So have several other people on this forum and others. Now either we're all idiots who despite being experienced PES gamers cant figure out a simple shooting mechanic or you simply haven't noticed this bug yourself. What do you think is more likely? Seriously?

Maybe when it happens you think "ah well the player wasnt in the right body shape there" or "maybe I just didnt hold the stick in long enough" which to my mind is you making excuses for the game's flaws.

I know what direction I'm pressing and I know when the ball goes in completely the opposite direction. I've even experimented with using the d-pad for shooting so there can be hardly any doubt to the direction pressed and it still happens.

We can agree to disagree but dont come on here calling me arrogant. Especially when you're the one displaying breathtaking arrogance in telling people in here they simply cant play PES properly or as well as you can and that the evidence they have seen with their own eyes is wrong and down to their own incompetence.

Post a few more videos if it makes you feel better, it still proves nothing. Why? Because I've got a collection of replays showing me putting the ball in the corners from all different angles too that I could put together in 10 minutes. So what? It doesn't change the fact that during gameplay the shooting sometimes doesn't work the way it's supposed to in my opinion.

That opinion isn't designed to upset you James, it's simply an opinion based on hundreds of hours of gameplay from a very experienced gamer. If you dont agree with it that's fine but dont go down the childish route of throwing accusations of arrogance around simply because someone has a different opinion to your own.

That only makes you seem like the "arrogant little man" you accused me of being.

Enjoy your flawless copy of PES 2012. It must be nice to see the game that way.

Nice comeback big man.

Not quite got the hang of this forum debating thing have you?

I think I'll go and put together a collection of every goal I've ever volleyed into the top corner then post them on here and claim that every single shot I hit is a volley into the top corner.

Coz that would be proof, right?

Sheesh!
