The Movies Thread

Frost / Nixon is one of the best films from last year. Great direction, great performing and a great way to discover details about something that happened when most of us didn't even talk or walk. I just love historical movies.

Inglourious Basterds

I can't find a thing that I didn't like. Most of the dialogues were amazing.
And I loved the opening scene.

9/10

agreed. brilliant movie. i can sit in teh cinema all day and watch just one scene with a bunch of characters talking only in a tarrantino movie.

IMO he is the best director for dialoge/conversations in a movie.

eden lake 9/10

absolutely brilliant movie. i had a feeling it will end brutal. spoiler
if i was the woman i would of personally killed all those kids and showed no remorse whatsoever. in order to survive you have to be brutal yourself!

A friend told me about that and
from how he described it all. I don't ever want to see anything that depressing and negative. If you like movies that glorify evil and no justice is served in the end than Eden Lake is for you.

Drag Me To Hell: 10/10 (Genuinely!)

Awesome film, i didnt think it would be that good but it has everything: laughs, makes you jump etc. I throughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

Go See It! :D

100% agree.

Watched it on Friday with a packed cinema...everyone in stitches, jumping and laughing so funny...highlight of the night a woman on the front row shouting "fuck this shit" as she ran out because it was too grusome for her :LMAO:

No way was this a 10/10, it was a 5.7/10 at most.

It wasn't scary at all, and certainly wasn't gruesome. It was OK though, it had a good storyline and overall finished well. The ending was predictable though. I just don't buy into these cheesy horror films any more that try to mix comedy with horror, I've seen it all before.

p.s. If you want gruesome try watching a film called 'Mum & Dad' (2008) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1129428/. That was messed up.

Each is own. The packed cinema played its part in the atmosphere of the experience too. It was such a funny night and a funny film

Now I've had time to consider it, it really was one of the best performances I've ever seen.

That man has rediculous talent, as does Tarantino.
i got to agree as well. the guy was brilliant and imo put off a oscar performance. great movie and cant wait to see it again.

Disney to Acquire Marvel for $4 Billion!

Building on its strategy of delivering quality branded content to people around the world, The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc. in a stock and cash transaction, the companies announced today.

Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney on August 28, 2009, Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own. At closing, the amount of cash and stock will be adjusted if necessary so that the total value of the Disney stock issued as merger consideration based on its trading value at that time is not less than 40% of the total merger consideration.

Based on the closing price of Disney stock on Friday, August 28, the transaction value is $50 per Marvel share or approximately $4 billion.

“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories,” said Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. “Ike Perlmutter and his team have done an impressive job of nurturing these properties and have created significant value. We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney.”

UPDATE #2: John Lasseter met with Marvel last week about a possible team-up between Marvel and Pixar and got "pretty excited, pretty fast." They say there's definitely an opportunity there.

The possibilities are endless.

Went to see Inglorious Basterds Saturday and brought 8 Blu-Rays today...

Inglorious Basterds: Absolute genius of a film. Loved every minute and right up there with Pulp and Reservoir of Tarantino's for me. Not often I watch a film and say "cannot wait to see that again". 9.5/10

The Strangers (Blu): Meh... was 'ok' but so many dumb moments and cliches ruined it... WHY do the stars go looking when a weird noise happens? WHY not just sit in a corner with a shotgun and wait? WHY go off and leave your beautiful girlfriend alone in the house unarmed? WHY if you turn up at your friends deserted house, get shot at, would you wander into said house instead of getting help? I could go on... 5/10

Die Hard (Blu): Yup, the original - never seen it! Typical 80's shoot-em up, shoulder pad, big hair nonsense. Was fun for a bank holiday afternoon. 7/10

only a 7? And you'd never seen it before? That's worse than Tim not seeing a ton of all time classic films.

Inglorious Basterds for me, is Tarantinos best work. Superb. 10/10

Some dialogue in his previous films (see 'Death Proof') while great, never really added to the plot. Every line in Basterds felt like it was important in one way or another and built so much tension at times, like in the basement bar scene.

Waltz and Pitt are seriously great in it!

Funny People - 6/10

Bit disappointed really. Some funny lines here and there but overall not the best film. Too long as well, 2 hours 20 mins!

Funny People was a pain in the arse to watch. Started off great, then suddenly it got a bit serious and a bit boring, and before you know it I was dying to go home.

The first half I would say was 8/10, the second half was about 2/10.

Away days 5/10. Average story, shit acting and not anywhere close to other hooligan movies like Green Street.
