The Movies Thread

Well, I watched Public enemies. It's definitely not a great movie, but quite good, entertaining at least. The major drawback is that it tells a story we have already seen millions of times, and does add nothing new, except the look of the photography, that is interesting in the action bits but totally unnecessary ofr most of the film.

Overall, an entertainig film you will soon forget, far from "Heat", which remains his best film in my opinion.

The Proposal - 7/10

Quite a good film actually! Some nice funny bits too :)). I like Ryan Reynolds, he is perfect for the part.

The Uninvited - 8/10

I delayed watching this as it's had pretty poor reviews. I know it's a remake and I haven't seen the original but I thought it was well done.

Not really scary but a good story, well acted with a nice twist at the end (which me and the wife didn't guess correctly!)

Certainly above the standards of recent horror/creepy films I've seen in the last couple of years.

Inglorious Basterds 8/10

Haha what a great movie, some very funny parts and some very disgusting parts! But that's expected from a Quentin Tarrantino movie so I can't complain. I thought Brad Pitt was great in his role, and the actors in the film were fantastic.

Highly recommended.

Just saw Inglorious Basterds and it's a fantastic film.

Pitt is charismatic and hilarious and Landa is a great adversary.

Great to see full German and French in there instead of everyone speaking English as well.

The Damned United - 7.5/10

Better than I expected, the actor playing Clough was pretty good and an interesting insight.

Michael Sheen - if you thought he was good in The Damned United you should watch Frost/Nixon.

It's not an action movie or anything but neither is The Damned United, I thought it was a brilliant film and a great insight.

It is Dags, yeah. I didn't know too much about it.

Basically, it's about Watergate (the scandal and the reason why every scandal now has the word "gate" tagged onto the end of it). The film about Watergate and how the news first broke is amazing too by the way, but anyway...

The President (Nixon) arranged for the phones of the opposition party to be tapped and when he was implicated he was saying he "had nothing to do with it", then he "had no knowledge of it", etc... It all came out in the end and the American people had real hatred for him, especially because he would just never admit to having done anything wrong.

David Frost (who was only doing light entertainment at the time, think Bruce Forsyth or something like that) arranged an interview, paying for it all himself, to try and further his career. Everybody (including Nixon) thought he'd ask stupid questions, and be easy to fool. In the end, the American people thanked Frost for what he managed to do.

The Hangover - 8/10 - Has got to be funniest movie I have seen this year.

District 9 - 8/10 - Brilliant movie.Almost seamless transition between fact and fiction.Thumbs up to Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson with this one.

Frost/Nixon is a superb film, brilliant performances all round and Frank Langella's voice is amazing.

I'm not sure I could take the themes of the film seriously because everytime I hear the South African accent I think of the Alan Partridge scene with the guy from Dante's Fires.

Body of Lies (BD) 7.5/10

Decent film, expected better considering the people involved.
