The Movies Thread

Watched Taken 2, actually quite enjoyed it.

I did enjoy the first one too, did notice it got a bit of a slating in some quarters, but I thought it was still good.

7.5/10

Taken 2 was appallingly bad.

Like they made the film exactly like the first one and then cut 99% of it to remove any violience or semblence of entertainment.

Should've known with it being a 12A this time around. Should never have been made.

The first one was just two hours of Liam Neeson twatting people. Entertaining enough to watch without getting deep into it.

The second one he doesn't even twat anyone so what's the point? It's a film with nothing in it whatsoever (well, apart from Famke Janssen)

Life of Pi = 3/10

Wow, really? I mean really? Never read the book but I thought this was awful tbh. The 3 is for how it looks.

All about opinions but other than amazing cgi, this had NO standout attributes. Terrible story telling.

For incredible story telling and emotions watch 'Up'

Taken 2 Just lame and boring, part 1 was not a good movie, but at least it wasn't lame and boring. 3/10.

Seven psychopaths Better than expected, though not as good as the makers probably intended/thought it to be. 7/10 (hehe, pun not intended).

Life of Pi - 7/10 nice film, great effects.

Django - 8/10 Really enjoyed it, thought it was a bit too long though, they could have merged the two big fighting scenes at the end. But saying that I loved the whole feel of the film.

Looper 8/10 For some reason I wasn't expecting much, but I really liked this film. I thought it was quite clever and kept me hooked.

By the way I thought the first 'Taken' was really good.....I haven't seen 2 though.

I really don't get what' s special about Django Unchained.

- The story? it could be "rambo unchained", some joe story about revenge and set the wife free. Don't even get me started about all the mandingo bullshit when they could have just offered money plain forward.
- Character developmnet? pretty below standard. Some decent acting, nothing special.
- Production values? Perfect recreation of a gone world with hundreds of extras and great city enviroment/customs? hardly any shot has more than 15 people in it. A couple of open fields, 2 main interior. probably a fairly cheap movie production wise
- Music? i have no idea about the main theme, it doesn't stick to your mind like old morricone classics.
- Final shooting? a rip off from some old japanese kult movies
- An in depth vision of the end days of slavery? It actually feel like a cheap B movie with the world "n." said a zillion time. Quite rightly many people (spike lee) felt rather offended by this depiction
- great narrative rythm? The movie actually feels half an hour too long, it drags a few times here and there. And then it feel rushed out at the end. not a very good balance.

People just need to be entertained and see some fancy shooting and some insults and then they say "it is a masterpiece".

Different people, different tastes. That's it.
There is no need for everybody to love this movie.

I felt very entertained by the whole movie, though it's a little bit long.
Liked it very much and I still have some themes of it still in my ear. ;)

Still debating whether or not to fork out the cash to see Life of Pi in 3d. Doesn't sound like watching it on a regular screen is worth it, considering it relies so heavily on its sfx

God Bless America 6,5/10

For me: a solid movie. It was amusing and I like that kind of black humor.
Especially about the crap you shown on television - sometimes i feel the same like Frank... ;)

My opinion is it's not worth the money.

Great fx but poor story telling in my opinion.

I watched Come and see, also know as Idi i smotri yesterday, a Russian/Soviet World war II movie from 1985. It was very different from other World War II movies I've seen. It was real, but unreal at the same time. I guess you could describe it as very rough, if that makes sense. There was no real plot behind it, no 'heroes' and overdramatisations. It really looked like it was filmed during the actual war. It was very intriguing to me.

10/10

Paranormal Activity 4
2/10

Damn, this film is bad. I don't like the whole series, but my wife does, so I watched also the last movie with her.
Now even she says, that this movie is crap. For me it's totally boring - only few interesting scenes, mainly in the end.

I wonder if there will be a movie that will clarify all the incidents and open questions. I don't like this kind of movie with it's camera styles.
This one is also absolutely implausible. Who is running around with his mobile phone or laptop and films while he / she / it is totally scared?!?!

For me the best thing in this series is Katie Featherston... :D

My ratings for the prequels:
PA 4/10
PA2 4/10
PA3 4,5/10

Cloud Atlas - 5/10

And that was just because a bit was shot in Glasgow and the Asian bird getting her paps out and humping.

Pile of shit.

So many movies being released on bluray soon that me and the slacker wifey can catch up on; Skyfall, Django, Argo, Silver Lining's Playbook, Les Miserables, the Hobbit, Life of Pi..I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
We still have free tickets to see 2 movies at the actual theater too..trying to decide what to use those on.

you'd better rule out Skyfall from your list if you don't like such a kind of showdown in
Highlands.
and the showdown reminded me
"Home Alone".

Having seen all of the above films, I recommend you use the cinema tickets to see 'Les Miserables' and 'Django' on the big screen as both really benefit from this type of viewing.

I guess 'Life Of Pi' is a great visual experience but I thought the film sucked so stick to Blu-Ray for this turkey!

Others are all great films too btw.

Really? I heard Argo is boring bud. I got the blu ray though. Give it a watch this week.

Company Of Heroes
7/10

good but the plot is so fictional.(i prefer the war movie based on true story.)

and i found several mistakes on weaponry research in the movie.

the german tanks were actually russian tanks.
maybe they were t34 modified on the turret.

and a german infantry machine gunner used a strange machine gun instead of mg34 or mg42.

EDIT; i was wrong:DOH: ; the german tanks were actually PzKpfw T34 which had been captured from russians and modified by germans.
maybe the strange machine gun was also one of the captured weapons from russians.
