The Movies Thread

Watched a couple of movies that were on my V+.

American Gangster - Like a good gangster movie, thought it was good, 8/10.

Land of the Lost - Not a huge Will Ferrel fan, and the movie never really got my laughing much, 5/10

I also copied Rush Hour 3, like Jackie Chan and the first 2 were good. I'm about half way through it, don't think I've saw it, but enjoying it.

Ain't boredom an emotion?

Skyfall: Lame James Bond movie, with a good middle-phase, but the start and end of the movie are imho hugely boring, and the end actually not only boring but also disappointing. 5/10.

God bless America: A bit too in-your-face-approach, and the criticisement of america's society remains just as superficial as the society's superficiality it criticises. A bit more subtle, realistic approach or a major plot-twist near the end
like for example that the girl is only in Frank's imagination and Frank realizing it and then trying to resist her pushing him to commit ever bigger massacres...
could have helped the movie gain some more lasting effect. 6/10

Ted Wow, imho an awesome comedy that reminds of the famous 80s-comedies combined with a lot of raunchyness. Nothing for kids but imho a really funny comedy with a great second half and a fantastic
Flash Gordon-scene in the middle of the movie
Great imagination and creativity, a lot of good jokes and some lame jokes. Overall imho a great movie. 9/10.

This is 40 : 8/10

I liked it very much
great and realistic dialogs ..
it combines perfectly comedy and realism
in fact, all Paul Rudd movies are like that, Romantic Realistic Comedy ..

silver linings playbook:

good knows how it got good reviews. i found it a piece of pretentious crap with the usual hollywood happy ending 3/10.

Finally got round to watch The Expendables.

The Expendables: 7.5
The plot wasn't bad, but could have been much better.

The Expendables 2: 8.0
I liked the location of this film more than the first, although there wasn't enough focus on the main-villain.

Overall I though they could've done better with such a huge cast of big names.

Yeah sky fall had some cheesy shit, is bond batman? WTF

It did have a batman feel to it for sure. Javier Bardem was doing his best Joker impression.
Still, I actually did kind of enjoy the movie, the visuals were pretty spectacular and I liked the repeated winks to the Bond movies of old.

You didn't think his Aston Martin was cheese?

i actually liked the fact that he pulled it out of his private garage...cheesy, probably yes, still a good touch.

weakest craig-bond anyways ;)

Daniel Craig is my favourite bond.

The latest films I think are the ones I have enjoyed the most (Skyfall was a bit disappointing).

I never went crazy about the older bonds (Films and actors). I liked them, but I never thought they were great.

i found the lastest bond movies to be non bond movies. they are basically some sort of mission impossible/die hard non sense. back in the days there was one thing called "narrative". craig has no charm and no whatsoever acting skills.

I like the darker side of the newer ones and I agree they are less bondy, which is why I think I like them more :DD I think you are being a bit harsh on old Danny Boy as well.

tbh, i don't think there has ever been a decent bond actor. everyone loves sean connery but he was quite terrible at that time (60es). handsome yes but he couldn't really act. and as far as bond movies are concerned, i'd say there are 2-3 decent ones, all the rest range from mediocre to embarassing.

it's a series that made sense back in the 60es when you could trigger people immagination easily. now that kind of story telling and fancy spy life just doesn't work.

dude you are a buzz kill.....sean connery a bad actor in bond! Blasphemous!

The problem they have with James Bond movies today is that it's way harder to set them apart from the rest in this day and age:

Crazy chases/pursuits? What action movie doesn't have them?

Outlandish tech, gadgets, cars, whatever? Yeah.. Kinda hard to impress the crowds with that nowadays.

Over the top master villains? Say hello to every superhero movie made over the last decade or so

Gorgeous half naked women? Not quite as edgy anymore... And uhhh.. Oh yeah the Internet ;-)

Exotic locales? Half the people watching have probably been there themselves

Just watched "Casino Royale" recently on TV. Now that is imho a brilliant Bond-movie with Daniel Craig, a hundred times better than the latest installment.

And I watched "Les miserables" with Hugh jackman and Anne Hathaway. Wow, I was totally floored by the movie: Great acting, great music and touching singing-performances, wonderful camera-work and direction, great story. This movie is imho an instant classic, a masterpiece, and it even busted my personal rating scale as I reward it with 11/10.:APPLAUD:

I really don't understand why it hasn't won most of the oscars and especially don't understand why the oscar for best movie went instead to "Argo".
