The Movies Thread

Just watched "Casino Royale" recently on TV. Now that is imho a brilliant Bond-movie with Daniel Craig, a hundred times better than the latest installment.

and for me ..
specially Casino Royale ..

Casino Royale is my favourite Bond Movie at all.

I have seen That’s My Boy. After his desaster of Jack and Jill, this is some kind of solid comedy movie.
I would give it a 6.5/10

Knowing (TV-SD)

Looses much of its atmosphere in the second half and has an at least "interesting" ending. Expected more from the story and its mysterious figures.

5/10

yeah I liked too
and I see it's underrated ..

Thanks for reminding me..I am on a major movie catching up spree.

Just watched Django, The Hobbit, Life of Pi & Les Miserables this weekend.
All very different and good movies in their own right, though being a major audiophile and video quality geek in terms of giving my home theater system a solid workout..I gotta give extra props to The Hobbit. Probably one of the best blu ray transfers I have ever seen. Brilliantly sharp images, and epic use of surround sound. Loved it. Life of Pi's cargo ship sinking scene was also very impressive that way. The waving crashing and the rolling rumbling of the bass made me feel like I was right there. Sweet!

Heard Dredd and Total Recall are supposed to be reference type quality as well..so will still have to watch those too.

Watched GI Joe: Retaliation.

Actually enjoyed it, brought back some memories of all those years ago with Action Force and then later GI Joe action figures.

8/10.

Jack Reacher - 4/10

Quite slow to get going, not as good as the book.

Only real saving grace was the sexy Rosamund Pike :-)

I don't know the book.
So for me it was an interesting movie, though most of the Tom Cruise movies were not my taste. I liked this one, especially that there was no crappy romance scene ruining the movie.
I was surprised, because it was better than expected. For me it's a 6,5/10

EDIT: I have to say Rosamund Pike is a 9/10 for me... ;) :D

Have watched a few movies lately:

Django Unchained: Good, funny dialogue, some good emotions being raised due to the whole slavery-angle, but I somehow expected way more, a more epic film if you will. It could have saved a few minutes here and there to make things more tight and I'm not fond
of the end-action being split up into two parts
, but still it was nice to watch and had its moments. 7.5/10

Hobbit: Very lame movie imho, yes it had some nice visuals and a little bit of innocent humor but overall it was for me very boring. The reason was that there was no danger whatsoever for the characters, they survived unbelievable things with no scratch that it lost me relating to the characters. I saw two highlights in the movie:
Gandalf meeting and discussing with the white wizard and the hobbit meeting and discussing with Gollum
, but it was not enough to save the movie for me. 5/10

Jack Reacher Another disappointment, the first half had moments in it that seemed to promise that the movie could get interesting, but it just didn't, instead it became standard as standard can be. Lame and uninteresting. 4/10.

The book that its based on is called 'One Shot' by a british author called Lee Child. He appears in the movie as a cop in a scene where Reacher is talking to Pike's character.

Movie 43 - 0/10

What an absolute piece of piss this is.

Its like SNL gone completely wrong. What were these actors thinking?

I just read the plot of this masterpiece on Wikipedia and it truly sound like an "absolute piece of piss". And I want to add that obviously no one in that production had a thought about anything.

Parker: Good beginning and then it got very lame. 4/10

Silver linings playbook: Great comedy, laughed really hard, only the end could have been a little better, but overall imho very good. 9/10

Just saw The Fountain very astonishing movie in every aspect. Aronofsky and Mansell and not to mention the actors...everyhting is perfect.

solid 11/10

but hardly recommend to watch it at least twice

Star Trek Into Darkness

9.5/10

Loved everything about it. Saw it at the iMAX in London, in 3D. Thought the clarity was great, sound was great, and 3D was great (even though there wasn't that much towards the end).

The Last Stand - 5/10

Meh. Not the worst action film. But not the best either. But even still, Arnie should stick to acting.

Nice eye-candy on display. Genesis Rodriguez. Giggity:P

P.S. Got IMAX tickets for Star Trek: Into Darkness. Can't wait to see it!

Which latest? The new one, which is presented next week? Of F&F 5-Rio Heist?

And btw: Get off this planet, I like it. :P

Each to their own but Fast movies are for teenage boys in my opinion.

I'm all for escapism in movies but fast cars, easy women, big guns... not for me...
