The Movies Thread

Wouldn't go overboard on MoS but it doesn't blow either. It's a pretty good film. As for Dark Knight Rises being a one time film, it just keeps getting better after each viewing. I can see MoS growing on me as I am looking forward to having another viewing at some point in the future.

Dark Knight Rises is one of the dumbest blockbusters ever. Action, music are still good tho. But i fell asleep at the 2nd viewing.
And Dark Knight was good imo.

Saw MoS last night, liked it very much. I did grow a little tired of the battles towards the end though, how many times can you throw someone through a building before it gets tired? A lot fewer times than it happens in this film. I'd still say this is a 4 out of 5 film, I loved the way they stirred things up so it wasn't a typical origin movie. Also, Russel Crowe! The 5.6 rating it has on RT is frankly ridiculous.

I think what really makes this film good is how it properly changes things up. Superman Returns was basically Superman V. It was an OK film but fell flat in many areas.

Hard to explain on phone but the storyline. Dialog, acting, tone of movie and action sequence is hands down amazing. The stroke the right balance of blending a bit of dark knight town, great acting by everyone except lewis lane and the battle sequence? Finally cgi tech had caught up and does superman battles justice.

Epic in soon ways. You got to see it. Tons better then iron man, star trek etc. This is probably movie of the year.

It has Chris Nolan scripting touch and zachs awesome action sequence all in one package

Thx for the response. Since you put it that way it does sound good. Superman in a way has always been my least favorite superhero. Perhaps this movie will make me feel different.

Gangs Of New York = 2/10

It's over ten years old now and never bothered to watch it when it was out, but I've decided to look through some films with high rankings and catch up on films I've missed over the years but wow how bad is this film?

Such high praise on most movie review sites but it's terrible!

I'm shocked how such high caliber actors and a director such as Scorsese give combined bad performances considering their previous work.

am glad someone else is sharing my oppinion about this movie ..
and am surprised how a genious like Scorsese directed such cartoon-ish shit with Dicaprio and Day-Lewis starring ..
this movie is the absolute worse of them ..
and the fu**ing problem is, so many people love this shit and consider it EPIC.
and the most funny and shocking point is, Scorcese was thinking of making it since 70s, this was his dream movie ..
looks like he filmed it with 70s techniques :D

no offense to 70s movies, just kidding, we have legends such as Cukoo's Nest, Godfather, etc ..

Mama = 5.5/10

Hm, this is not really Horror and not really Thriller.
Some kind of mix of both, but with nearly no shocking sequence.
I think it was more or less solid, but nothing special.

Man of Steel = 4/5

very good start which can only assume there will be a few more down the pipeline.

Had some great fight scenes and all, there was one part in particular which it felt out of place/forced (not the fighting part) is why I'm giving it a 4/5, other than that, really no complaints, well done and glad the trailer didn't spoil 3/4 of the film.

they said the same about Avengers and Dark Knight Rises and both are one time movies :P

Well, i thought Avengers to be great (except for the end-battle that reminded me a bit of the Transformers-end-battle), but Dark Knight Rises was imho simply awful, lame, boring, uninteresting and just plain wrong.

Compared to that third movie, Batman Begins and Dark Knight were masterpieces.

Am really curious about Man of Steel, heard a lot of bad things about the second half of the movie but in the cinemas around my place there are only 3d-showings of the movie and I really dislike the picture-quality-loss that goes hand in hand with 3d... so I guess I'll just wait until the bluray.

Oh and I thought Superman Returns to be really lame and uninspired, simply has nothing on Superman I and II.

for the first time in my life I watched a movie in 3D,today, and it was Man of Steel

I'll give it 8/10

the story wasn't that solid, or at least not as solid as I expected ..
but the feeling of the movie was great ..
also the battles scenes and destruction and flying, simply stunning ..

DKR gets better with each viewing to me. Just as TDK did. Begins had me on first viewing. Absolutely loved it. I also now love TDK and DKR. Brilliant trilogy.

I agree with you about the Nolan/Batman series of films. They do get better with each viewing. Well, they do for me anyway.

I watched Inception for the second time last week and I just didn't 'feel' it the first time around but have to say I really enjoyed it on a second viewing.

I have loved Nolans work with The Prestige and Memento being the two standout films by him.

It was basically Superman 3 wasn't it? Thought it forgot all about 3 & 4 and was supposed to continue after 2?? Might be wrong though.

Yeah you might be right, although I don't know why they'd go through lengths to erase Superman III from the timeline, that movie not nearly horrible enough for that. As for IV, I haven't seen it yet, I'm taking people's word that it is abysmal.

Superman IV is abysmal^infinity. As a child I enjoyed that one as well though, but as a child I enjoyed every movie, no matter what.;)

I'm confused by you guys' positive reviews of Man of Steel and some of my friends' "meh" responses. Maybe I need new friends. I am very curious to see it now. :CONFUSE:

Btw..anyone excited for Pacific Rim coming out? For some reason I love large scale special effects movies that are done reasonably well (like Battleship, which doesn't take itself too seriously). I also used to be a diehard Mechwarrior fan back in the day so the sight of any Mech type equipment excites me.

superman without red pants...for me is incomplete... i hope it will be a good movie..

not that the pants matter but without those pants he looks like naked in some strainge way... or am i the only one who thinks this?!

I have a strong suspicion you would in fact be the only one thinking that. Or should I say.."imagining" that? :P

no, i just like comics heroes be comic heroes, not some mutant hi-tech new kind of heores... why chainge things that are against the comics visualisation of the heroes.. i don´t like the dark colors of his clothes, neither the material... he starts to look like some other hero not superman...

left is current Superman who looks nothing like people know Superman since he was mentioned firs time..
superman.jpg

he would look so much better as on right side imo...just for the sake of comics and realism.. but whatever.

this is a good article about evolution of Superman: http://www.grayflannelsuit.net/blog/pop-culture-capsule-superman-through-the-years

The suit on the left pisses over the older one.

So you'd still want Batman in a 60's TV style costume?

Things change. Time moves on. I like the newer costumes.

Several posts about pants... gotta love this forum, we have the best members!!! :APPLAUD:
