The Movies Thread

I actually took the plunge and watched Superman IV. It's every bit as terrible as people say it is, and the sad thing is with a better script it could have been alright. The basic idea behind it isn't all that dumb. Superman thinks the world is on the brink of nuclear disaster so he decides to get rid of all the nukes. If this would have brought on political complications, with Superman collecting nuclear warheads and destroying them, and told all governments to sod off, it could have been a fresh and interesting spin on superheroes, especially for its time. Instead, every nation just starts to fire their missiles into space (!) so Supes can collect them to throw into the sun. Too friggin bad.

Tower Heist 5/10.

Falls under the category of one and done.

I grew up in Hong Kong, so things like Godzilla and Ultraman were a huge part of my childhood. Pacific Rim reminded me of how much I loved that stuff.

8.5/10

Acting was pretty crap but the fights, robots and monsters were fucking awesome.

Watched Jack The Giant Slayer on plane back from holiday.

Was not too bad actually, I'd give it a 6.5/10.

Also saw World War Z just before I left, I'm a big Zombie fan and did enjoy it.

8/10.

Source Code (BD)

Short and nice action movie, although I felt it manoeuvred in a completely unexpected and in this case not really matching direction in the second part of the story, whereas the plot introduced as main plot in the beginning got more or less completely lost.

WWZ was empty...weak...boring...cant explain it but just was all that. Rather watch 28 days or Dawn of the dead anytime.
Still kudos for the movie not goint into RE style!

Anyone seen Pacific Rim here?

superman without red pants...for me is incomplete... i hope it will be a good movie..

not that the pants matter but without those pants he looks like naked in some strainge way... or am i the only one who thinks this?!

Some will agree with you PIPA but remakes do not necessarily have to be faithful in every detail.

Otherwise where is the fun for the director ? Are you going to be buying that Hot Toys figure ?

I am awaiting Selina Kyle......release date keeps being delayed.

For those in the UK and are building libraries , there are sales at Amazon, Zaavi, The Hut on box sets and 2 for £10-11 offers on many popular titles.

Moviemail also have a 2 for £15 offer on arthouse films, predominantly from Artificial Eye. Bought Elena, The Kid With a Bike, Kiss Me, Le Quattro Volte and others.

And for other landmarks in cinema, Barnes and Noble in the USA are running their annual 50% off sale which is great for Criterion titles like Solaris, Ivans Childhood, Paths of Glory etc etc.

Cloverfield (TV-SD)

Somehow pointless, with illogical cuts and an end, which was predictable from the first minute. Expected more from this.

5/10

P.S. Would be a great drinking game with the rule to drink everytime someone is shouting someone's name, for example "Rob" or "Hud/Hut". You'll be drunk after the first ten minutes and won't survive half of the movie. Really remembered me of the infamous "Shawn" glitch from Heavy Rain...

Watched Jack Reacher.

Was quite good, with a twist that I didn't expect.

7/10.

Gangster Squad

I love my gangster films, but just didn't take too well and just didn't take to any of the characters. Was okay.

6/10.

Watched "End of watch" (hehe, pun intended): The story is no revelation and pretty standard, but the whole movie was filmed very well and it was entertaining to watch, and the chemistry between the two cop-buddies was nice. Liked the movie overall. 8/10.

Watched Unknown, I like Liam Neeson.

Was alright, although I started to click a bit as the story progressed.

7/10.

Just this minute finished watching Django Unchained, 10/10 without a doubt.

One of the most enjoyable films I've watched in a long time. Cheese galore and funny as heck too, absolutely brilliant.

Long shot but has anyone on here got an Orange Wednesdays code they are willing to let me use? Me and a few mates wanna go see something tonight but we have two codes between 6 of us..

Watched Oblivion and Europa Report. Enjoyed both.

Oblivion
8/10 - Loved every second of it. From M83's soundtrack to the plot. I'm also a fan of the director's Tron legacy.

Europa Report
7.5/10 - Very realistic space exploration movie about the first deep space programme. It's very tense and will surprise you, considering the script was made with Nasa and SpaceX consultants. They got this film together with real space footage and a super low budget - which is impressive.

I liked Oblivion (mostly shot here in Iceland which is a big plus) but it has some pretty big gaps in the plot if you start really thinking about it.

Snitch: Nice little movie with a message, nicely filmed, nicely acted, interesting and tense. The few action-scenes were nicely done. The only problem I saw was:
for the end I would have wished for some important character to have died, as to make it all have more impact and realistic feel. As it is, all survive... I would have scored it quite higher if they had made the ending have more impact, emotionally, physically...
7/10

Not a big fan of Oblivion at all, too many likewise films of this ilk for me.

And on the subject of Tom Cruise, seemed to have watched quite a few movies of his recently.

Collateral - Very enjoyable, good story and thought Cruise and Foxx bounced off each other really well, although I knew who was last on the list, LOL.

8/10

Killing them Softly - Wasn't too impressed tbh, it was okay. Quite a few of the Sopranos cast appeared in it, including Big T himself.

7/10

Safe House - Another okay movie, nowt special. Wasn't hard to know who the inside guy was.

7/10
