The Movies Thread

Went to the pics to see The Hobbit. Was enjoyable, I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10, not usually a .5 person, but can't give it a 9 and doesn't warrant a lower 8.

Thought it was visually stunning as usual, but just seemed to drag out a bit, kinda reminded me of the first LOTR, although that was all new, this was another likewise film.

I actually didn't have a clue that this is part of a trilogy. I was 3 hours or so into the movie and looked at my watch when I saw them looking at the mountain and thought "Fek me, this is going to be a big rush job, the mountain is feckin miles away!", then up popped the credits, WTF!

FD

Personally speaking The Hobbit is on a literary level below that of LOTR. Tolkein wanted to rewrite the whole thing as was normal for him but unfortunately he never got around to it.

A two part film would be more appropiate but film studios love the idea of trilogies nowadays with all the attendant merchandising opportunities.

Really enjoyed Katyn by Andrezej Wajda if one could call the subject matter enjoyable.

Impeccably characterized and filmed it exposes the lies built around the incident and the trials and tribulations of Poland before and after the Second World War.

i heard that its the best JB movie since 2000 or dunno since when im not really into it

Pretty good stuff :) watched on sunday
but still dunno that he was really a timetraveller or he just kill himself and her at the end with that stuff he builded

with another sci-fi Seeking For a Friend For the End of The World...pretty lovely movie :)

my next stop is Cloud Atlas :BRMM:

ah u from budapest...i lived there a couple of years. there are some brilliant hungarian movies out there, Kontroll(2003) is one of my fav.

ARGO 8/10

old school thriller that keeps you guessing til the end, oscar in the bag for Affleck

Argo is a good movie based on a great real story. My 2 cents: they could have avoided all the hollywood stereotype of the last second bs and stick to the real story a bit more. I actually recomend the book based on the life of the CIA agent in charge of those operations: it is called Master of disguise if i am not mistaken.

Anyone seen" john dies at the end". Have to say one of the strangest movies I've ever seen. Really enjoyed it. Perfect smokin stuff

Read the book recently and it was a good story. The book dragged it out a bit but it should translate to a film really well.

Thats a very deep movie with good visuals (i mean the scenes not effects or whatsoever :D but they took some pretty stunning shots and gave a great atmoshpere), we have great actors but we can afford only low budget movies, our (romantic) comedies are the best imo

if u graduated in the 90's or before then this is the best tribute to your youth

Moscow Square

Looper - 6,5/10

It was alright/good. Felt a bit long winded at times and like they just wanted to fill scenes for the sake of killing time (no pun intended).

I saw that back in the days...i was dating a girl from the "moskova ter" generation!!! and of course that old satyre about the communist rule ( A tanú).

I tried to watch "Lincoln" but it did really bore the hell out of me. Like most recent spielberg movies.

P.S.
Actually there was a cool run down bar right above the moskova ter station i used to frequent when i missed the night bus.

Great, im glad to hear u enjoyed while u where here :)

btw i saw yesterday :

30 minutes or less

i've got the feeling that these kind of movies have the same producers or directors like the other american comedies i like nowdays :D but im still lazy to look after 7/10

Just rented Looper this past week, after hearing the positive stories. I must say I was quite impressed with it, save for the ending where I expected somewhat of a twist. Excellent acting by Levitt & Blunt..kid was cool too, Bruce Willis was..well..typical Bruce Willis. Definitely worth a watch though if you're into sci-fi thrillers.

Still want to go see the Hobbit before it's not being shown in the theater anymore but can't decide whether I want to see it in 3d or not..any input there?
W regards to that particular trilogy; In a way I am most excited, yet at the same time scared about is for film no.3 because it will *hopefully* tie The Hobbit story line into the LotR stuff, there definitely was enough source material by Tolkien to turn it into something awesome IMHO. Hope at least one of the 3 movies shows some of the "Necromancer" background as it might help explain to non-readers why Sauron is such a pissed off little twat. :BOP:

Dredd:

Story was a bit like "The Raid", but had enough unique stuff, like the scifi-setting and the psychic-stuff to set itself apart.

Good movie, especially the first two thirds are really good, the last third was a bit of a letdown as I expected it to become more tense and exciting towards the end but it didn't.

8/10.

I wouldnt spend my money on 3d if i were u just a few really cool 3d moments i can recall....but consider that i only saw two 3d movies, this and silent hill 2....and as for the story it could have been put in 120 minutes aswell...its cool, i enjoyed but felt like it hits the level of the lotr but there is nothing more beyond that, and i had serious problem with the character development of the dwarfs in it - except thorin - u barly know anything about the other more than 10 dwarf they like one crowd person rolling through the screen every time...and im sure it gets more exciting and we will get more in to the characters but still 360 minutes left to go(2 book in 3 movie..wtf?)..and i wasnt excited about any of their faith we were so early on in the story i knew no one will die and so on...and bringing Sauron in the story felt really pointless to me...because Smaug supposed to be the ultimate badass in this and why do u want to put the main villain in the shadow by mentioning an even bigger threat?

well its still 8/10, its a really great movie if u loved lotr u will love this (bilbo is much more a loveable character than frodo was and i like they expand the world of middle earth for the people who havent read the books)

Anyone seen The Sitter?

Thought it was really funny.

Last nite i was too tired too watch a good movie so i watched this.

God knows why every other american comedy is about a white loser who becomes a hero and gets a good looking woman.

America seems to have trouble making decent comedies these days, let alone decent movies.

21 jump street a classic, bridesmaids, another classic, there been some others as well... Not so sure anyone is making as profound movies anymore... And yes I watch foreign films, not as many as in woukd like... Carlos the jackal was epic. Any good foreign movies I should check out? You should give beasts of the southern wild a shot...

u can find subtitles on the web either but not sure how quality they are

i watched zero dark thirty. not my cup of tea and a difficult movie to watch due to its slow pace, but surely a very appreciated and worthwhile production. good movie.

The Hunger Games 8/10

The Grey 9/10
(It was an amazing survival movie, one of the best movies of 2012)

The Hunger Games was better than I expected when I saw it..though I mostly liked it for its bombastic sound on my (at the time) new surround system :SMUG:

I've been meaning to watch the Grey for a while now. I'm a Liam Neeson fan but for some reason the story didn't appeal to me when I read the description. You are however one of many I have since heard say it's worth a watch so looks I'll move it up on my "to do list"

I enjoyed The Grey too. Worth a viewing.

Django Unchained 9.75/10

Best Tarantino's movie with Inglourious Basterds ..

this movie includes all genres ; sf, fantasy, mystery, thriller, comedy, and a beautiful romance(but wrong love:SHOCK:).
good movie.
but it was ridiculous to describe asian male's look as down syndrome, and to describe korean cultural style as that of japan or china.

2 more movies I need to see. I have a lot of movie catching up to do. Last time I was in the theater it was for the last freakin Twilight movie. It wasn't my choice to see it.

It was the kinda situation that went like; "but I want to see how they conclude the best freakin series of all time, I wub vampires, they're so cute and romantic, and funny and beautiful and strong and sexy and then there's the guy that goes without his shirt almost as much as matthew mcconaughey...I can't believe it's all going to be over now *cries*"

Me: "I'm not paying for that crap"

Other party: "Fine, I'll pay for you I just want you to come with me"

Me: "Fine, it will be comforting to know the damn thing will be over after this one"
