The Movies Thread

Yeah watched Ted the other night as well and it was exactly as I expected. Predictable, not a deep movie or anything but lot of raunchy jokes which is what I wanted. It was funny and made me laugh ever 2-3 minutes which is the whole point of a classless comedy.

Overall I enjoyed it. 7/10

Re-watched Training Day the same night by the way and it's gotta be one of my fav movies of all time!

RIP Michael Clark Duncan! Just saw the post above! So sad! At only 54!

He was a great guy! :(

You'll be missed Big Mike! :WORSHIP:

Expendables 2

i enjoyed it pretty much just like the 1st one, good trash movie :)

suggest for cast in the next one:

- Nicolas Cage
- Bolo Yeung
- Jürgen Prochnov
- Jackie Chan
- Wesley Snipes
- Danny Trejo
- Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa
- Christopher Lambert
- Mario Van Peebles
- Glen Jacobs
- Ron Perlman
- Dave Bautista

Just watched Cabin in the Woods - wtf did I just watch.

Absolute drivel from start to finish.

1/10 - Just because of the few funny quips the wee spaced out guy came out with.

Take shelter

Excellently made, actors (especially the main-actor), sweet little daughter, nice camera, nice music... everything is of high quality (except for the CGI). But the movie fails on the story:

The story is about a father having bad dreams that convince him that either he is getting crazy like his mother did or that the dreams are some sort of prophetic insight warning him of a major disaster coming up, where a storm brings dirty rain and turns everyone into a killing monster (ie. a sort of biological, chemical disaster that infects people and animals).

So he visits counselors and his mother and at the same time builds a shelter to protect his family for the case he is not crazy.

Throughout the movie until they eventually go into the shelter after hearing sirens... there is no indication whatsoever that what the father sees in his dreams is or will be real.

So they go into the shelter and come out of it, seeing that only a storm happened, nothing major or disastrous. They are then convinced that the father is merely starting to get crazy like his mother did and want to take professional help... but then at the end of the movie, the big prophesised storm comes up validating everything the father saw and did.

But what does the movie want to tell me with that story?

And why does the father get these prophetic dreams? Why can he see the future?

Maybe it's like in those biblical stories where God exacts divine punishment on a town/country but warns a selective few, usually the only ones believing in God and leading a morally sound life, through prophetic insight so that they can get saved. But in the movie there is nothing that separates this father and his family from the other families. It still would have made sense if he would start to convince as many people as possible and to save them as well, like Noah...

But he merely tries to save his own little family, he even doesn't try to save his best friend or the family of his wife or his brother... So what's then the purpose of that all?

The other angle is the possibility of him being merely crazy. On that level the movie could have made sense, but then the ending would have to be different, with two possible end-scenarios:

1. To make the movie stop right where the father opens the door of the shelter again and leads the family out again with the bright light, with noone seeing what is outside. That way it would be open if he is mad or prophetic.

2. To make the movie end on the note that he is merely getting crazy and seeing him decide to accept treatment out of love for his family.

I prefer the ambiguous end of 1.

Verdict: Really lame nonsensical story/plot in an expertly crafted and acted movie. 3/10

I really enjoyed the film but didn't think about it as far as that. I'd have given it an 8.

I think the decision not to tell friends or family is to avoid panic - ie. people raiding other people's shelters or people using weapons to go crazy. Also - people will always tell people... so best to protect yourself.

I liked the movie because it kept me questioning his sanity - and you're right... acting was superb.

I would have even given it a 9/10 if the story had any real purpose and made some sense.

Another alternative ending that would induce purpose could be:

After the father opens up his shelter again and the family enters the bright light, another reality is shown.

He awakes from a coma and finds his wife and (speaking!) daughter by his side. The whole pain- (dog biting him..) and other experiences with not getting air and spilling blood... and his daughter not hearing, not speaking and the treatments she made could have been symbolic for what the hospital tried on him during his coma.

I agree. It was a terrible movie.

On my list
Expendables 2
Cosmopolis
Lockout
Total Recall 2012 vers

Went to Ted last week, I'd rate it a 7/10.

Were some really funny jokes, but the plot wasn't the best. If it weren't for the adult jokes it would've been a standard child movie.

Prometheus 7/10 it was strainge movie, could have been better..couse i expected a lot more from seeing the trailer..

enjoyable movie, but i won´t watch it again so..not phenomenal..

'Just go with it' is good it has Adam sandler and Jennifer Aniston, I didn't think it was going to be good but I found it really funny, the kids in it are really good as well.

i think Expendables 2 was better than the first one
Van Damme is an awesome villain too bad he played almost every time the good guy in his movies...

Can anyone recommend me a good and funny comedy movie that came out recently, something similar to TED, The Dictator etc ?

The Dictator is a total let down...i would recommend Zack and Miri Make a Porn...i know its not new...but a classic

watched a few movies:

- Daisy Diamond (starring Noomi Rapace) 10/10
- A Very Harold And Kumar Christmas (a great story, jokes but...whats with that santa and all the magic stuff? still ok) 6/10
- The Dictator (laughed only twice...total let down after Borat) 4/10
- The Tall Man (the movie is avarage, but it has at least 1 UNPREDICTIBLE twist...for me it was 2 and it has a pretty intresting theme...ummm and i cant decide witch side im on ) 7/10
- Tideland (a really sick but nice movie) 7/10

Compliance: 8.5/10. Very disturbing true story. Girl in the film is pretty damn hot. Never seen her before.

Prometheus:

Visually impressive, contentwise weak, Prometheus surely doesn't live up to the hype created by the very fascinating short trailers.

The story is weak and thin, the characters aren't interesting and most of them acted like idiots. The only scene I was fascinated with was
when the main-character understood that she got pregnant with an alien organism and she ran to a medical robot to make him get the alien baby out of her belly.

The rest was boring "seen it all before and better"-stuff.

With impressive visuals, only one interesting scene and uninteresting, uncaptivating characters and a lame story, I can't give it more than 5/10.

u r right, but it aint that bad if u consider the acting, the sets, the soundtrack and the long awaited space jockey, its defo a 7/10

but i agree that they fooled us with the teasers, trailers wich have the alien like atmosphere

The Amazing Spiderman - 8/10

Very good movie, liked so much more than the other Spiderman.
BUT this movie badly needed a decent score that stucks in my head for days , for weeks from the likes of Harry Gregson Williams or Hans Zimmer or Clint Mansell...etc even that great Coldplay song couldnt helped this part of the movie.
