The Movies Thread

Haven't watched Ted yet either but gonna.

The following I now have on my hard drive and are gonna watch over the next couple weeks.

- I Saw the Devil

- Shame

- Up

All 3 are supposedly very good and completely different of course.

I Saw The Devil is fantastic. Powerful and disturbing movie.

Up is touching, funny, uplifting and fits easily in as one of Pixars best films.

Shame I felt mixed towards. Not sure if i enjoyed it or not.

All very different genres that's for sure!!!

Ted - 6/10

i felt dissapointed and wanted to leave the theater earlyer.. not as funny as i expected...some great moments but many hollow ones between..

We're going to watch Ted tonight. Mostly very good reviews so looking forward to it.

The Hunger Games

The first twenty minutes I thought this might be actually a good movie, love the main-actress. But then it turned into a complete and disappointing mess:

1. The Hunger games were introduced to punish the rebellious districts. What a nonesense is that? To kidnap and let children slaughter themselves every year is a surefire way to provoke a new rebellion.
2. None of the kids develops a subversion against the hunger games. Most of them even look forward to it:FAIL:
3. In the Hunger games I saw kids forming alliances. Wtf?! Don't they realise that it is an everyone against everyone game, and that someone from the group could kill them all during sleep?
4. It's called the Hunger games, but I saw noone having any hunger or thirst.
5. It took ages until the games started.
6. The mainactor who is pretty strong was beaten by a weakly girl that could throw knifes and was to be killed... only to be saved in the last second by some other guy who happened to be there in the nick of time...
7. It wasn't original at all, it seemed like a dumbed down copy of Battle Royale, mixed with a bit of Running Man and a bit of Truman Show.

Even the mediocre Running Man was miles better, and Battle Royale is lightyears better than this.

Waste of time for me. 3/10

The film was really poor compared to the book, which is excellent. Lots of things weren't explained at all in the film, they BARELY even got to mentioning the other district's competitors, their names and didn't go into any of their backgrounds.

Transformers - Dark Of The Moon (BD)

The expected third movie of the modern franchise in Michael Bay's own way. Delivered what I wanted and I like it, no matter what those critics say.

8/10

For the BD: Fantastic picture, but I felt the sound (just heard the German version so far) wasn't mixed perfectly. And I guess no one will ever understand, why Paramount had no single extra on that disc (not even a trailer) after the two previous movies came with a second BD with hours full of extras...well, at least I own another nice steelbook now.

The books are better indeed - but this is as always. It's not easy to convert books into films and please all fans. 6,
For me the film is still quite good - i would say 6,5 of 10.

Just simply comparing it with running man or battle royale doesn't make sense, especially when you have read the books and you are aware of the complete story.

Watched 'Up' last night! Now I can see why everyone who's ever watched this had only had positive things to say.

Lovely movie! It won stuff too, didn't it? Very well made!

Watched I Saw The Devil.

Incredibly violent movie indeed! Some of it just outright unnecessary!

The Raid Redemption - 7/10

Some of the best, if not the best, fighting scenes I've watched in a movie. Very well done albeit a basic film to a point. A bit brutal too.

The Big Lebowski - 7/10

One of those films I never got around to watching. It's pretty good, I love The Dude and it made me LOL a few times throughout.

Yes it's violent, maybe over done but it gets the point across well how the man suffers such loss and how he deals with this animal who caused him so much pain.

A film i felt was over violent was this one >>> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0856288/

I made it to the end though god knows how!!!

im not sure about TDKR...it has potential, it has great actors, great characters, great music, great scenes, great acting, great music everything u want BUT

- there is a villian who announces that he is there to destroy everything...im not again the whole league of shadows idea but Liam's character tried to do this without the spotlight ...but fine Bane is a crazy guy and want to punish bats...it would be cool explanation BUT -->
- at the end the badest mother ///er is nothing but a pawn... an ugly monster who in love with the girl who sleeps with bats rather with him...ehmm what? so bane its just an IDIOT??? worst twist ever just trashed that great character in one second
- but fine, now i understand why she want to punish bats, ok but with what cost? ridicilous
- and the story...they throw him in a place where he can easily escape ...ummm B category action movie piece?
- and also the whole story is B category....old superhero, comes a bad guy , beat him up, he let loose in the city, the superhero train himself for a 20 minutes then hes coming back and beats the bad guy ....great plot
- and about Celina...she is fine, but she is nothing....just a... i dont know i LOVED the catwomen in batman returns , she was epic, terrifying, crazy, lovely, sexy but this girl....there is no sexual vibe between her and bats
- in this movie is nothing about bat's self righteousness...and basicly it was the main theme of the first two...only scene was when that cop wants to catch him instead of bane ...what the f?

its a really good movie though in avarage 8/10 but nothing comparing it to the dark knight, that was epic...and the competition is still open for the best movie of the year title for me :)

Cabin in the woods 8/10

Good movie, not scary at all, but a nice meta-view on the horror-film-genre. Funny at times, entertaining and action-packed.

Avengers 8/10: Great action and team-rivalry-cooperation-theme with some good humour and a hot Scarlett Johansson but storywise not as good as Iron Man 1 or Thor.

this was just a solid spy / action movie. nothing special at all.
even angelina jolie and phillip noyce don't want to do a sequel, which is a good decision imo. ;)
my rating would be the same like yours :)
