Not many films are liek inception i.e sci fi/action movies not dumbed down for the masses.

thats what makes inception good because they didnt make it into some kind of stupud sci fi action movie with silly plot holes and a lead actor that acts like a plank of wood lying on the floor
 
I dont know jonney, I think its good, but not great.

One scene that puzzled me was:

When Leo is trying to get Ellen Page to give him the whereabouts of the plan just to tell Tom Hardy - why didn't he just ask her to tell him over the radio that they both had? So that his stupid wife wouldn't pop out - which btw was very predictable.

Other than that, it's a good film, but imo, not Oscar worthy.
 
Unstoppable - 7/10

Red - 7/10
Fluff action-comedy movie.

Monsters - 8,5/10
Really enjoyed it, not really sure why. It isn't a big blockbuster, not much happens and it's a fairly bland "story". I guess the combination of it being so mundane but in a very interesting setting gives it the edge and actually makes it really good. Has a really good atmosphere aswell.

Ok fair enough. is there a oscar award for best sci fi? if there is, what other movies would you vote ahead of inception?
 
The Fighter - 6/10

Meh, not even close to being worth all of the hype. Some good moments but those were few and far between. Comparisons of this and The Wrestler are crazy, TW is so much better.

you need to watch it!! it grips you from the very first scene and doesn't let go!
 
I can't see it too, saw this and Wall Street II the other day and both are like loads of movies around, they got nothing that make it special for me.
Of those two Social Network is definately better, maybe it is special for someone who actually uses facebook.
 
I think the movie was more about the main character rather than Facebook itself.... and that was done very well. They fictionalized the whole story, but at least it was entertaining for a film.

The first Wall Street was so much better than the second. They should have left the series at the one film IMO.
 
Yeah, second was secondrate imo. Also they had to have a happy end, which really should not have happend. They could have cut the film short by 5/10min. and it would have been a far better version and more true to the original. Also the whole banking crisis was done too quickly, they could have shown more of that for me. That's what I found the most interesting aspect with the banks top people and the autorities sitting around a table trying to figure out how to stop it.
 
Gladiator - 8/10

It was pretty good, sure. Acting was good, story was above average, scenery etc was good. But damn, it just went on far too long! Worth watching but I wouldn't rate it as one of the best films I've seen.

Agreed, Aronofsky does it again, never gonna see ballet with the same eyes, and wrestling, and drugs... oh man he is just brilliant.
 
Nope, I reckon I must watch since I'm a huge fan, only this one and Pi left.
I also trying to catch some Paul Thomas Anderson too, saw Punch Drunk Love the other day, only missing Magnolia and Sydney now.
I always pick one of these movies on free weekends, Aronofsky is right next to PTA on my to watch list now :)

The Fighter - 11/10

phenomenal movie, absolutely loved it.

purposely didn't read anything about it beforehand, but knew it was similar to 'the wrestler', but WOW, just WOW...

you NEED to see this.

MegaMind - 9/10

I watched this last night with my girlfriend and her daughter. Absolutely class, very funny. Reminded me of a Superman 2 animation spoof. Ferrell, Pitt, Jonah Hill and Sandler- what more do you want from a voice-over cast ?.

Love and Other Drugs 8.5/10

Quality script and strong performances. Really enjoyed this. Another Wednesday night with the missis Chick-Flick must.
 
Mr Nice - 6.5/10

Not bad, not great. A little disappointed though to be honest. For those that have read the book, it's probably more like 4/10 at best.
