The Movies Thread

I got hundreds of films on my PC and came across an old favorite of mine...

Casino = 10/10

Absolute classic...

Some of the best ever acting on film in my opinion from De Niro and Pesci.

Even Sharon Stone gives a career stand-out performance.

I'm sure loads of you guys have seen this but I so enjoyed watching it again after all these years.

It's a glorious piece of film making and directing.

Get Him To The Greek - 6/10

Some amusing moments, only the
furry wall
made me laugh out loud.

Black Swan = 9/10

Wasn't looking foward to watching this. My wife wanted to see it. But, have to say it's an absolutely stunning film.

Incredible performance from Natalie Portman.

Dark and brooding yet ultimately uplifting.

Oh I will, my dad was a keen climber.
Have you seen 'Touching the Void' a kind of similar true story

Saw the sequel "Touching the Cloth" but it had a shitty ending.

As for films, jesus I've wasted quite a few hours in the past week or so with some gumf I've watched.

2012 - 3/10, 3 was for the visuals, what a complete load of tripe, the Limo drive about summed up what was coming.

Outlander - 6/10, Ron Perlman and John Hurt were the only people I knew, but wasn't upto much, Vikings and a spaceman fight an Alien.

Book of Eli - 7/10, stretching it to a 7, tbh, very disappoitned in it, had obviously the twist to the story end.

Harry Potter - 6/10, trees and a tent, that was it.

Zack and Miriam make a Porno - 7/10, not too bad, quite funny, the lead girl was rather nice though, couple of real pornstars were also in the movie along with Jay from the Silent Bob and Jay. Think the main points was the talk with the gay guys and Craig Robinson.

Finally got round to watching The Social Network

Very geeky, brilliantly acted and engrossing, loved it! 9/10.

My missus face through most of it was a picture, she didnt have a CLUE what was going on or what they were on about...

The Other Guys 10/10

Will Ferrel is back and all the rest of the cast have plenty of funny lines as well

I found The other guys fun at times but more stupid than fun towards the end. Some memorable lines but at the same time absolutely unnecessary jokes here and there that make it worse for me. It was as if the jokes were getting more "gross" through the movie. Still, some great moments definitely. I would rate it a 6/10.

Hot fuzz is a similar movie with some stupid priomitive fun in it, but I found it much more solid and ultimately more fun. I would put a 8/10 to this one!

And I watched The descent. It starts as a psychological thriller, then suddenly turns into another kind of movie and you end up scratching your head by the fact you clearly see that these 2 movies aren't compatible. In fact, I read about the director that had changed his ideas mid-shooting and it shows. Starts as an interesting movie and ends up in a typical bloody & monsters movie filled with cliches. The final twist doesn't even work. Up to 5/10 only because it's well shot!

Some real fuuny s**t in that film... :DD

Did someone call 9, 1, Holy Shit!!

I laughed nearly all the way through the film, even if a scene isn't that funny there is always a comment in the background at the end to make you laugh

Will Ferrel is brilliant, especially when switches into pimp talking "Gator"

YouTube - "The Other Guy's" Gator Don't Play No Shit
YouTube - The Other Guys "Gator's bitches better be using jimmies!" "SO FUNNY"

This is funny as well, i could go on and on and will end up posting the whole film in here

Watched the TV Film Temple Grandin by the HBO last night, as I saw it had won some awards: 8/10.

It's a great film with a great actress performing an amazing role. The film is very interesting and, though it resorts to some topics at the end, it's one of the best american films I've seen lately. There aren't any cars exploding, mind you, the film is about an autist woman and how she fights in live (yep, sounds like those sunday TV movies my granny watches).

Best movie I have seen since 'Inglourious Bastards'.

Absolutely loved it... as did the GF, who understood most of what was going on...

I still havn't watched The Social Network.

Although I know very little about the film, it still annoys me that it's winning awards ahead of Inception...
Inception is an epic film, with a very creative plot which keeps you thinking, with superb acting (in particular Cillian Murphy), some emotional moments, believable stunts/action sequences, with a soundtrack that fits perfectly.

A story based around social networking, no matter how well done, can hardly stack up to that in my mind.

Rant over :P.

I don't think Inception really deserves it either Rob. We've had films like that before, but I'd give it a solid 9. I think Black Swan, The King's Speech and Winter's Bone deserve it way more for great acting and just generally great scripts.

The Social Network will win, I bet you. I don't agree that it should, but it will win it.
