The Movies Thread

Devil = 2/10

M.Night Shallybaba needs to leave film making alone.. He'll never re-capture the brilliance of 6th Sense.. the more he tries, the greater he fails.

Despicable Me = 8/10

Excellent. Really enjoyed this.

Skyline = 1/10

Awful.

The Town = 9/10

Fantastic... Superb dialogue, brilliant cast, gripping story... Loved it...

Wallstreet II - 7/10
Is too kind when compared to the first one. Would of been nice if they had told more financial stories as it was really interesting getting a "look-in" when the crisis was starting up.

The good, the bad and the weird 7.5/10

A really weird Korean remake of the western from Sergio Leone. The first 30 minutes are absolutely superb with great ideas filmed very well. Action is nicely shot and edited (unlike in american blockbusters).

A pitty the movie looses a little energy towards the final third. Anyway, very fun movie with lots of laughs here and there. The main actor, the "Weird", it's absolutely brilliant. He was brilliant too in "Memories of murder" and "The host", so it's not a big surprise he steals the show.

The Town - 7.5/10

A bit too slow, probably went on longer than it needed to. Better than your average heist movie though.

Despicable Me - 7/10

Slightly disappointed, expected it to be better due to the hype I'd heard. Some funny moments but on the whole, it was good but nothing special.

Devil - 7/10

Better than I expected, given the plot. Could've probably fleshed out the characters a bit more but pretty decent.

Kick Ass - 9/10

Brilliant, didn't know anything about it before watching but expected a Superhero Spoof film, how wrong was I!

Insomnia 7/10

Not Nolans best work, seemed extremely easy to figure out what happened next

Following 8.5/10

Very good, short and sweet.

Youth in Revolt 7.5/10

Wasn't a good as I thought it would be, did enough to keep you interested the entire time though.

Solitary Man - 5/10
Another Michael Douglas flick, dissapointing really. Thought it would be more comedy but it's a drama about an old guy screwing anything that walks with a coming of age part added to it.

Monsters = 2/10

Oh dear, very poor.

I know this film was done on a low budget and I was prepared for it to not be a Cloverfield or District 9 copy but still, I'm not really sure what this film is about or what it's trying to say?

Why did you even give this a 2?

it's the shittest film i've ever seen.

Knight and Day (BD) - 7.5/10

Really enjoyed it. A very well written action film. Looked stunning in 1080p on my new screen.

Dinner for Schmucks - 5/10

Had some funny moments. Steve Carrell made it though. Wouldn't have been half as watchable without him.

The Town (BD) - 8/10

Really enjoyed it. Reminded me a lot of Heat and The Departed and thought the performances by all were excellent. Great soundtrack aswell.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (BD) - 8/10

The Girl Who Played with Fire (BD) - 7.5/10

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (BD) - 7.5/10

Have read the books so was expecting a decent portrayal in the films. Overall, they were very well done and were true to the story of the books.

Very good story running throughout the trilogy, although I enjoyed the first film (as I did with reading the books) the most. Well written and well acted. Some really memorable and harrowing scenes.

Hot fuzz 8/10
I laughed a lot, and that what it's about. The last 20 minutes feel a little stretched, but overall a good idea and a good execution with hilarious moments.

A Christmas Carol (2009) (BD) - 9/10

Loved it! Great interpretation of the classic novel and very true to the actual story. Jim Carrey was great.

@ Mj,

I actually thought the first book was a bit slow, but that it really picked up with 2 and 3. I heard somewhere that there are going to be English versions of the movies.

Inception - 10/10

Only just watched it yesterday - Amazing film, loved every minute of it, wish there more movies like it!

You should check out the likes of Memento and Following by Nolan then.

Mullholland Drive - 7.5/10

a real "WTF just happenend their?" film, good film once you've figured out the puzzle.

Yeah, I heard that too. I'm always a bit cautious of American remakes though - e.g. Rec, The Grudge/Ring etc

The versions I watched had either an English dub or the original with English subs. I went for the subs version as I quite like the spoken language, but still wanted to make out what was going on.

Inception - 10/10

Go watch ' The Prestige' another classic film from Nolan...

This man is building up a superb library of films. He's taking over Speilbergs mantle.

Buried - 9/10

Very enjoyable, created a great atmosphere despite the limited location and it's all about the dialogue really. Highly recommended.

Unstoppable -8/10

A very good movie for what it is. Imagine Speed but with trains. Based on true events as well. Very easy watching and very fast-paced.

Going the Distance 8.5/10

A decent Chick-Flick this, with plenty of laugh-out loud moments. Decent script and well put together. Definately one to watch with the missis, which is what I did last night. Really enjoyed it.

The Ugly Truth - 9/10. 2009

Another Chick-Flick, but from a guys perspective. Very, very funny. Tells it exactly how it is. Gerard Butler in his best role yet for me. Highly recommended.

Edit - I loved The Prestige, cracking film that was released around about the same time as The Illusionist. Magic has never been so good.
