The Master League adventures thread

So I decided to try vanilla PES 6 after getting much enjoyment from PES 5. It's...different without patches, reminds me of really old days, different stats system it seems, game is more crazy overall and I don't mind :D I picked FC Belgium, edited their kits in my fake licensed style, picked default team (ugh!) and went for it.

So it was bad. I was getting beaten. Last place after first round. Bought Park Chu Young (obviously) and Kerzhakov. Lost some more games but tide turned around and won last four matches, including 1:0 over D2 Champion Stade Rennais. First season ended and dayum is AI dumb. So many fantastic players dumped as free agents...including Iniesta and Messi o_O Couldn't afford them but still brought in De La Red, Benzema and Lichtsteiner. When it's default team I don't mind grabbing because default team is the worst shit. Also bought some young talented CWP called Kompany, whoever he is.

Second season went much better. Leader from first to last fixture. During winter (middle of the season?) negotiations I've brought in Aissati and Blondelle. Dynamo Kiev took a massive beating in the second game (8:1) only to eliminate me from D2 Cup (0:2, 3:1). Dammit Ivarov you arse, he was letting everything past him and I still almost made it back :( In the league I kept crushing people, and after 5:0 over Utrecht trophy has been claimed.

Gut. Another summer, another freebies, but also real transfers for hard points! And trades because AI is silly. And so we got De Zeeuw, Martnes, Jenner, Ogasawara, Lindgren, Vercoutre and Dembele. Decent! And I'll be kicking ass in D1 since it's mixed Ligue 1 / Eredivisie / Other Teams league. Bayern will be the only obstacle. Also I'll face off my derby rival, Bruxelles, they've humiliated me hard in D2 and got promoted on 1st season. Now it's time for payback.

Also FC Belgium is set to change their kit sponsor, Credit Local (Dexia) is to be replaced by Japanese electronics giants Sonny who want to advertise their upcoming video gaming console PolyStation3 in Belgium.

:D

Finally started a serious Master League today. I really love the game this year, but until now I just couldn't find a direction for ML.. I started out trying a Tottenham and Juventus one to taste the waters, super star level with assisted shooting.. both fun and challenging in their own ways (just did more or less a round with each), I may even come back to the Spurs one sooner or later, but I really wanted to try out what I consider the "deep" core of ML, which is starting with a low/2nd division team and climb from there..

Last time I played a ML with dedication was in Pes 2013 (hated all the in between chapters until this year), with a personalized team created from zero, my beloved Fc Rigan (that is accompanying me since Pes5).. I tried it out even this year but unluckily it didn't worked out for me! Maybe in game/seriously edited kits are just too good compared to manually edited ones, but I couldn't connect with any of the teams I created.. I don't know if it's the same for you, but if I don't absolutely love and "feel" the kit and the theme of my club, I can't play it, no matter how good the game is..! Plus, differently from the past, there is something about starting with the default players.. maybe this year they are all too similar (all awfully bad as always :D), I don't know, I'll try again in the future but for now no way...

So, superstar level, lvl 1 passing and manual shooting (I don't really love going 100% manual but I feel auto and advanced just don't give enough variety so it isn't really a choice.. I feel like I'd need to open a bigger, different topic here but let's save it for another day..) I finally decided and after a lot of friendlies I picked up Verona, in Italian Serie B, with their real players.. and boom, that's love! A lot of players I love (Pazzini, Maresca, Zuculini, Romolo), some old glories I'll hope to sign before market expires from other B teams like Zaccardo and Rosina.. and even if I've lost my first match against frosinone 1-0 I feel like the magic is here... I want to bring Verona on top of Serie A again like they did in the eighties, and then hopefully of the world.. more to come in the near future I hope :D

So I completed my team... Zaccardo didn't want to leave Vicenza, but luckily Rosina came to me and most of all, after selling Leandro Greco, I had the money to buy gigantic forward Pellè, a luxury for serie b...

... but it was all useless as in the bunch of games I played I lost 4 games out of 5 :D only drawing the other one. Playmaking is damn tough and even when I manage to arrive in their box it's pretty hard as I still have to get used to manual shooting (wasted some good chances here and there). Pellè is a physical beast but when the cpu wants to close out the spaces there is not much I can do about it..

The last match against Spezia bring a smile to my face even in the defeat tho.. I was down 2-0, I managed to score the 2-1 with a cheap cross and only two minutes left, so I try to desperately attack the second I had the ball back, the cpu almost panicking to close on Pazzini, tackling him down aggressively for a foul just a step outside the box.. unfortunately the free kick was turned down by a defender, but the final forcing and the eleven man in their box for that last chance made me taste a good moment of real-feeling soccer..

Hope things will get better in the next games but all in all I don't think I have chances to get to Serie A this same season.

Yo I got back to play my FC Belgium game and it's good! I had some great games but also some losses, for example Marseille straight-out battered me 1:3 I mean holy crap they are guuuud. Vanilla PES 6? Continues to be great! It's a bit fast, a bit wild, but also more unpredictable and just fresh, loving it. I'm doing well so far, 6th place in the league, won my first D1 Cup game against Lens easily. My biggest game was winning 2:0 against Bruxelles in a derby game, damn it was tough they have really great team!

All I want to do is just share my kickass kits, I mean that's the fake licensed style for you. Brings back the memories :D

Just played Newcastle v Brentford 5 times ..lost 1-0 every game the goal scored very early in first half..v suspicious

I get certain aspects of scripting but if full games are then what's the point..every game might be scripted win or lose

There were games in PES 2016 where literally straight from kick-off, there'd be a pass back to a midfielder, a long-ball to a winger, a cross and a goal, and there was truly nothing I could do to stop it. PES games are all scripted, but this stuff was the most blatant example I'd seen since the PSX days, it was outrageous.

I don't see anything like that any more, but as I've said earlier in the thread, I'm at a point now where having a high team spirit seems to have turned the game upside down. I can beat the top teams 5-0 and then draw against West Brom. It doesn't make any sense (it's not scripting though, it's just that my players are much worse - and the opposition more "psychic" - when the opposition is supposed to be a worse team than mine).

I believe full games/full seasons are scripted. I just try enjoy each game and take what I can from them, like a great move or great goal.

Been doing my usual and playing away from the game for a bit. Trying out FIFA new and old ones and even exploring No Man's Sky (not bad as it happens).

But finally came back to my ML and ive notched the speed down to -2 and i am enjoying it a lot more now. The gameplay is slower (obviously). What i mean is that it is less end to end and i find it more realistic.

With regards to the 'scripting' i am finding it easier to get that last ditch tackle or block in before that 'scripted' goal goes in. Ive played about 8 games since notching the speed down and i feel that i can fight the 'scripting' more if that makes sense.

Plus i have started playing 2 DMFs and only 1 CF. Which means defence is more solid now.

Here are some highlights from December if you have nothing better to do...

Scripting manifests itself not necessarily with the plays the CPU will make, but mostly through attribute warping, which I discussed in some previous posts a long time ago. Basically the CPU players who are under 70 for speed will beat on pace your 90+ speed strikers and will maintain a high level of energy throughout the whole match. I can clearly see this in PES 2017. CPU controlled teams will use Gegenpress tactics the whole game, all over the pitch, to a point where you can't stay untroubled with the ball for a second. And the surprising thing is that the CPU's players won't ever get tired (we can't see their stamina bars, to make it worse). Another trait of the scripted matches is how the CPU players react first to everything on the pitch, every loose ball. And they look much more lively than your other AI controlled teammates.

The teams that come up the most scripted like that are the ones usually on the bottom of the table, you know, fighting relegation and all that. It's been typical since PES 2011 or earlier. You beat top of the table teams by 3-0 or 4-0 and get much tougher matches against relegation fodder.

Sometimes it's best to let it happen and try to weather the storm, the CPU will eventually simmer that down in some periods of the season.

BTW, although I still see it happen, now in my 5th ML season my team seems to be just too much for the AI to cope with. Even with scripted matches and all. Currently I'm on a run of 17 consecutive wins in the league - only lost one to PSG 2-3. So it's either the team got too strong, or I've learned how to deal with it. Or a bit of both.

It's lulling you into a false sense of security .. . .just when you think it's safe to go back into the water. . .. .here's Johnny.

@geeeeee i agree with you about -2 speed but someone said that at -2 speed your squad is less reactive. What do you think about? Thanks.

They do feel a tiny bit less responsive if that's what you mean but you get used to it and i am finding more midfield battles and less end to end. For example when i do the highlights, before there could be about 10 or more shots each half but now there are maybe 5.

By the way, i am playing 20 min matches, full manual, on professional. Still struggling in my ML but pleased because obviously "scripting" must be less on that level.

Thanks geeeeee for your replay I agree with you. I'm struggling for a slow gameplay. At the moment I'm playing -1 TP PA1 manual shoot but I find pa1 are too much precise and PA0 for now it's too difficult for me. Maybe PRO is better for learning PA0 and -2 speed too. Sorry for my bad English.

Your English is fine inca. :)

Yes i think Prof is the way for me with full manual. Once i get better i will increase it. Loving this again now. Why did i ever leave you PES? :P

7 games won in a row and Monaco are flying up the league table. Now only 2 points of third place, which is their goal for the season (CL spot). Second place seems doable as well but PSG have pretty much planted themselves at the top and don't look likely to let go if it. The Europa League group is really tight, with Fulham again teasing Monaco and beating them in a match which was absolutely legendary (2-3).

All ML default players equally as bad as each other? What is this nonsense? My Giorza is 89 rated full-back porn, and "Cobra" Castledine is 84 rated and possesses a left foot that could open a can of beans that doesn't have a ring-pull. The game really rewards sticking by players.

I recommend Maxi Lovera for those building from scratch and looking to develop players. Becomes a very tidy forward indeed after a few seasons. Sadiq Umar also worth a look if looking for a tall man to develop from youth.

I've got something brewing that may help guys experience more of a challenge in their ML's, user only fix this time - and very easy to do.

Will give that 5-sec thing a go, though to be honest the narrative of my ML; Williams Jones success with Benevento at home and on the continent, it sort of makes sense from a narrative perspective that my team are a class apart six seasons in.

This will be final season with Benevento with the hope being victory in the club world cup to add to the glut of silverware amassed, and maybe the league and CL on top of that again will see Jones sign-off in style.

Great times with this ML campaign. Have restricted myself to playing only on the weekends, so perhaps that is why some of the annoyances of the game don't see my frustration bubbling over. I just put what is likely a wee bit scripting down to some rustiness.

Regards shooting. If they improved stat impact a wee bit, a little more animation variety, then I think absolutely everybody would looooove Advanced Shooting. It is one of the design triumphs in PES in recent years. It really does demand composure as it is, but enhancing that further with the additions and fixes I have mentioned would see them hit a sweet-spot.

The best, most engaging PES ML in years. I adore it.

Has anyone had a player be given a nickname yet? I can now choose from two for Castledine; went with "Cobra" Love the mad shit the mode throws up that charms. I like the wee cut-scene when a player gets one of the better team roles like Conductor, Workhorse, Creator, or as Cozzari was given earlier this evening, HERO. I've littel objections to how the team roles impact on the squad/club too. Simple, but like I say charming. Fuck over-seriousness.

32 games into my 3rd season at Ternana, and just about managing in mid-table, beating the teams i should be beating and losing to teams i should be losing to. In January I sold two of my centre midfielders to pay for the loan fees of Marco Van Ginkel and Nabil Bentaleb, a very risky strategy, the quality of the players in are a massive improvement but It affected the team spirit and teamwork values which is also a bit of a hinderence. i'm hoping in the final ten games it will pay off and i can sneak a top ten finish.

I've also got in Genoa striker Leonardo Pavoletti to add a bit of competition against Monachello who despite being only rated 68 has got 12 serie A goals so far this season. Sanogo is pretty rubbish though and not offering much. Pavoletti being a 'fox in the box' also lets me change my setup a little bit so I don't necessarily have to use the centering targets instruction. he's contributed a lot to the team but still hasn't scored in 8 appearances.

When the season ends, i'm not sure i'm going to be given enough budget to bring in the 2 new midfielders and striker i need to replace these loanees, If a good contract offer comes in from another club i might say goodbye to Ternana.

So i finished the season 14th... The game is being really stingy with their club offers which is good in a way. I was offered both Carpi and Chievo who finished either side of me. My team rating was very similar so budget gamble aside, i didn't see the point of moving... unfortunately the board has only given me 3.5m to spend on new players...

One thing i've decided to do is have a whole new tactical approach, the one I previously had was very much a 4-5-1ish workaround for the original 4-4-2 I utilised with Bari. I made it even more defensive in Serie A to cope with the better teams I was facing and if i want to kick on I can't do the same thing this season

.I'm going for a fresh approach to better utilise my best assets and i'm going to try a more flexible and fluid possession game. i'm attempting to go for the tottenham hotspur 3-4-2-1 approach

yKrZOGC.png

This image shows the 'out of possession' formation. as you can see i'm still going for the solid defence first philosophy, the arrows denote the transition to the in possession formation. my full backs will become LM and RM, and my LM and RM will both become SS. The reason I am doing this is because Both my full backs are offensive and in a back four they are always charging forward regardless of my instructions, hopefully this makes use of them better but still gives me good defensive numbers

I'm hoping to get a centre back in with the build up attribute to help play it out from defence and a centre midfielder with the box-to-box attribute, the latter will compliment Yebli's destroyer attribute. i'm definitely going to have to sell at least one player to make this happen though and it might have to be my current left back Germoni (who has developed to be rated 82) who could fetch about 11m. otherwise I have a winger who would be surplus in this formation who could bring in about 5m.

Really wish you could organise friendlies to help me tweak the formation before the season starts... it's a brave move which could ultimately end in my sacking!
