Yes you're right, after checking on wekipedia, he did play for Schalke must...my mistake.

So what does he do now? Is he still alive??? Has he turned gay??? Does he run a chocolate shop??? Tell me gerd.

After retiring Wilmots went into Politics and became a member of the Belgian Senate, after two unsuccesful years he quit.

Then in 2004 he became the manager of for Sint-Truidense but was fired in February 2005.

Thats all i could find out

Wilmots now is what we call a new man...he's doing the household while his wife is a very succesfull lawyer...

IMHO one of the most overrated Belgian players ever, although he was brilliant at the 1990 WC in Italy...

Belgian players that were much better than Scifo: Gerets, Preudhomme, Meeuws, Ceulemans and the best i've ever seen: Wilfried Van Moer...

Not ML but, yesterday i started an International Challenge with Chile on Top Player. I think the South American qualifiers are the best, as you get a better sense of having to qualify over time (18 matches). You also get that interesting play-off place in 5th position, if you're not good enough to finish in the top 4.

After the opening fixture, a thrashing at the feet of the Peruvians in Lima, i thought this was going to be tough. Further doubt crept in, during the following fixture in La Paz, Bolivia, as Chile conceeded within the first 3 minutes. However, Chile later beat Bolivia 4-2, despite the high altitude at the Estadio Hernando Siles

After 5 matches, i am currently occupying the aforementioned 5th place, but there are some tough games coming up, notably against Argentina and Brazil. There aren't many Chileans to select (David Pizzaro retired from International football too). They're also all quite short :lol:

Anyway, my results so far: LWLWW

Peru 3-0 Chile (totally outclassed)
Bolivia 2-4 Chile (came back from 1-0 & 2-1 down to win)
Chile 0-2 Venezuela (dodgy FK decision put them ahead)
Chile 1-0 Uruguay (early goal & hung on...just)
Ecuador 0-2 Chile (a few new faces, confident display)

INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE

I've completed the first half of the qualifying campaign (9 games) and my latest result, the first of the return legs was a 2-2 draw at home to Peru. This was great improvement over the opening fixture of the campaign, when Chile lost 3-0 in Lima.

Chile opened the scoring in the first half with a 'wonderstrike' from Acuna. The midfielder picked up the ball a the edge of the centre circle in Peru's half. He took it forward a couple of paces and then lashed in a ferocious 40 yard drive, which slammed in off the right post, having beaten Butron's outstretched dive.

Peru struck back with a well taken half volley from Chelsea's Claudio Pizarro. Chile's Humberto Suazo added another for the home side, only to see Pizarro volley an equaliser before time.

Chile now face bottom of the table Bolivia, at home.

Still looks like only 4 Leagues though, perhaps if we wait another few years. :p

Yay!!!! Finally!!!!

So that'll be 100 teams in a Master League? 20 more than usual, right? The question is, who's going to make up your 2nd Division?

Now then. I wonder if they have tweaked the European qualification places for the league. If not, at least top 6 of 20 is better than 6 of 16, as it was.

maybe they'll make 2-nd division for all 4 leagues, then it makes 160 teams in total :)

My friends...eurhm...euh...i...eurhm...i...just ...eurhm...i just bought FIFA08....tonight i will be playing another football game...am i an outcast now in this thread????

But i still will be playing ML i guess...that depends on what happens between now and 26 october (maybe the other game is too difficult for me)...

:lol: i saw your post Gerd ;) I've purchased it too. It should be waiting for me at home right about now. However, i'm actually playing (real) football tonight as well, so i'm going to have to wait a bit longer.

hm, maybe there are enough teams this year as they've added many teams and Bundi can be there as well, with Fake teams, but hey, do we care? And Konami's press release stated that there are 250+ teams in the game.

We still have to create quite a few teams, so we can have the same clubs from the same country. So if you choose Serie A, you want to create Serie B teams for the second division; Since you don't want some random teams coming from the second division.

That's the dilemma now SB. You'll be able to fill the other leagues with a full league if you like, but you'll have to be more creative with a 20 team Div 2 now.

This time i'm going to keep my OF very clean though. I'll tweak things such as appearances and so on, but i don't like importing other people's players/teams unless they're very well created. Otherwise you just end up with all those bald clones with a few hairstyles shoved on them. I like to make do with what's in the game, because it doesn't feel right playing with some teams/players who have been created according to some fan's (often biased) opinion.

For me, there's a decent enough selection of now licensed (yay) club teams (of course, there could be loads more, but hey) and i'm looking forward to an ML already. It's only the Prem teams which have to be edited (plus some International names, but that's a lot less than the old days).

at least it's gonna be proper number of games in division 2 now and you'll have to try really hard to get promoted to div 1.

Agreed Professor Nutmeg.

It's kinda like a gift and a curse. It's a gift because you will have a proper first and second division league structure in the game. But a curse because PES2008 won't have second division teams (obviously), therefor we have to create the 20 other teams by ourselves, which will take time!

Where's JeffT!?!?!?! :)

Nutmeg's Red Hot Chile Head To World Cup Finals

Under the management of Professor Nutmeg, Chile have qualified for the World cup finals, after some action-packed South American qualifiers. A 0-0 draw, away to group winners Brazil, rubber-stamped their qualification in the penultimate game, however. Chile finished third, behind Brazil and Argentina. Peru cam fourth and Uruguay snatched the play-off place in 5th, but lost to Australia over two legs.

Nutmeg has since selected his 23 man squad for the competition and will now be deciding on tactics, in order to see Chile through the group stages. In what is seen as a tough group, Chile will face Ghana, Croatia and Mexico.

What an awful World Cup finals. And after such promising qualifiers. We lost to Ghana 3-0, Mexico 1-0 and Croatia 2-0. We didn't even score a goal. However, we did manage to hit the crossbar 3 times. :-\"

I'm a litle bit tempted to post about my FIFA08 Manager Mode with Lze Havre in this thread...would that be a major sin???

Are there other people over here who've bought FIFA08 too (i know Professor Nutmeg has)???

I have to say i really like it.
There is however something, maybe it's subjective, but when i score a goal in FIFA08, the excitement is not as big as in PES...Of course maybe that is because i'm not used to the game and maybe i used to be better at PES than i thought myself (always thought i must have been one of the lousiest players of Evo-Web).
The manager mode is brilliant however. When i saw myself quoted in L'Equipe after Le Havre's elimination against Lille in the French Cup, that really gave me a kick...it's things like that that are very immersive...why can't PES have a similar manager mode????

Those Japanese people are one peculiar bunch...

FIFA08 is something I have been flirting with the idea of purchasing over the last couple of weeks so I would really like to hear the opinions of any of you regular ML guys who have played it:)

Well Jeff, it's at least worht a try IMHO.
If you are a ML freak, you will like it...
It has lots of things PES (unfortunately) hasn't: very up-to-date rosters and even accurate team formations, right kits, nice atmosphere and that fantastic manager mode.
One of the things i really liked was that when i played Cup Matches with Le Havre, i found out that other second division teams who were eliminated for the Cup just carried on playing league games. So i regularly had less matches...very realistic.
I quite like the gameplay too...like i said before... i don't feel the same thrill when scoring a goal as in PES, but i'm not sure that it's something related to poor or good gameplay...
What i don't like much, is the English commentary...i prefer the Dutch one and honestly i think i prefer PES commentary...maybe i expected too much...But i was frankly disappointed...
Otherwise: very good game and well worth a buy IMHO...
I will certainly buy PES2008 too, but i'm not so sure which game i will play regularly...a year ago i wouldn't have considered buying FIFA...

For me, the good things about FIFA08 are:

- the detail in manager mode (as Gerd has mentioned)
- the ability to play in complete lower divisions (Ligue 2, Segunda, The Championship, League, 1 & 2 etc) and other country leagues
- the chip shot penalty (very satisfying)

Having played it for a few weeks now though, i find the gameplay getting a tad annoying due to the delay. I think this adds to that feeling you don't get Gerd (which i also don't experience) when you score in FIFA. I still haven't finished my first season yet. I've only scored a couple of really satisfying goals.
I also can't work out how to curl a ball from FKs (despite following the manual instructions). And everything is a bit too small for me on Tele camera (to see most of the pitch)
