Royals win first match in division one:

Reading - Bolton Wanderers 2-0
66' Oster (Convey)
74' Lita (Sidwell)
MOTM: Sonko (7)

After a very difficult first half, Reading took the reignsin the second half and slowly started to dominate the second half. Which resulted in two headed goals.
Manager gerd Dk was very pleased with the first win: "This is good for the confidence of this unexperienced team" he was quoted saying.
The Belgian scorcerer was also very pleased with solid defensive performance of his team.

Liverpool FC: the quest for Domestic and European glory

The first 2 seasons were close to success, when
we finished 3rd twice in a row.
In season 2, we reached the CL Semi-finals.

Into my 3rd and final season at Liverpool FC.
We were pretty close to the top of the league
until a few bad results, especially a frustrating
0:0 draw at leaders Chelsea have all but left us fighting
for 2nd place with Arsenal & Man Utd.

The Cups are looking a better prospect of our first ever
piece(s) of silverware.
In the FA Cup Semi-Final, we're leading 2:1 from the Home 1st leg
against Chelsea....surely the advantage is with them, after
Robben's away goal at Anfield.
The other semi is between Newcastle and ManU.

In the CL, we had romped through the group stage winning all
6 games (vs Chelsea, PSG, Monaco).

In the Q-Finals, we were paired with probably one of the best
teams in Europe, Inter Milan.
The 1st leg was at Anfield. Defoe and Mutu started up front
for us, against Adriano and Crespo for them.
We took the lead thru Defoe, but lost 2:1 at home after strikes
from Vieira and Crespo in a game where Inter showed their class.

So into the 2nd leg, needing to win by 2 clear goals at the
famous San Siro.
The game started slowly with both teams being cautious like
a chess match. Slowly but surely we began to get more adventurous
when Mutu spun off Materazzi and forced a fine save from Toldo.
Few minutes later he went just wide...Inter did not heed the
warning signs, and finally Mutu scored a sublime opening goal.
Liverpool needing 1 more to go through...but still having an
hour to play...Inter then quickly equalized thru Zlatan.
The 2nd half, Liverpool upped the tempo and started dominating
pushing the Italians on the back foot. Defoe made it 2:1 after
some fantastic play by Gerrard to set him up.
With the game heading for extra-time, Pennant went on a mazy
run before drawing 3 Inter players to one side and then sliding
a perfect through ball for an on-rushing Gerrard to hammer home
from 8 yards out...it was curtains for Inter....
Mutu added another one late on, and Liverpool romped through
to the Semis with a 4:1 win at the San Siro..
similar to the result Arsenal had a few yrs ago.

Liverpool face AS Roma in the Semis, with
the other one being Barca-ManU.

Squad so far:
GK- Reina, Dudek
CB- Carra, Hyypia, Agger, Gavrancic, Caldwell
SB- Finnan, Maurino, Riise, Konchesky
DM- Sissoko, Mascherano
OH- Gerrard (*), Alonso
SM- Pennant, Odonkor, MG Pedersen, Boa Morte
FW- Mutu, Kuyt, Defoe, R Keane

10 Royals go down fighting at Anfield Road:

Liverpool - Reading 2-0
18th sending off: Mate
62th: Bellamy
88th: Bellamy
Motm: Bellamy.

Reading put up a very good fight against favourites Liverpool at Anfield Road.
The turning point of the match came after barely 18 minutes when the Royals' Hungarian central defender Mate was sent off after a perfectly good tackle. Reading showed positive fighting spirit and continued to play attacking football.
After the pause the Royals even had the best chance of the match so far, but Liverpool's Reina had a superb save on Seol's volleyed shot.
In 62th minute Craig Bellamy showed his pace and scored the goal that forced Reading to play all or nothing. From then on Liverpool was very threatening on the counter and Bellamy's second goal was a very logical one.
Despite the loss manager Gerd DK was very satisfied with the team performance. The team played good football and showed team spirit after the sending off. When journalists asked him about the sending off he responded:
"I never comment on referees, referees deserve a break and criticising referees makes one blind for the short comings of the team...it's counter-productive."

Forest Gain Promotion And League Title

Forest celebrating promotion

After seeing their unbeaten record come to a halt against Rangers and a poor run of form following that, Forests lead was reduced to one point going into the final game of the season against second placed Watford. With both sides promoted the game before all that was at stake was the league title. Forest dominated early on and scored in the 13th minute when Phil Jagielkas shot was parried by Ben Foster only for Jason Oost to score the rebound for his 6th goal of the season. After that the game was back and forth with both sides missing chance after chance. The 65th minute saw Marlon Harewood brought down in the penalty area but the striker put the resulting penalty wide of the post. With virtually the last kick of the game Watford sub Tamas Priskin scored a cracking goal to level the sides but it was not enough as Forest won the championship by a point to give Nigel Clough his first trophy at Forest although he had to watch from the stands as PES King took charge.

Clough was back for the Johnstone’s paint trophy final against the side that finished bottom, Celtic. With Cloughs side determined to clinch the double they took the lead in the 5th minute thanks to a headed goal from Mike Burchet. Forest completely dominated almost the entire match but could not get that elusive 2nd goal. Against the run of play, Celtic equalised in the 70th minute after Craig Beattie rounded the keeper. Then disaster struck for Forest as Maceij Zurawski scored in both the 89th and 90th minute to take the trophy back to Glasgow.

While fans may be disappointed with the cup final loss they will no doubt be looking forward to Forests first season back in the big time since 1999.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

i'm in my second season, and only one player has developed, all of my team's growth is on "early/lasting" also.

Re: The PES6 Master League Thread

Off topic: Gerd, Zulte-Waregem v Newcastle is on the telly tonight. Anyone to look out for? Tim Matthys?

Tim Matthys indeed Prof, he's on a scoring run in the UEFA.
Last year they had another player who kept on scoring: midfielder Tony Sergeant.
Forward Tosin Dosunmu is also a guy who scores a lot (in Blegium that is).

But normally Zulte-Waregem are no match for a Premiership team...they did well in the group phase because they were underestimated in the first two matches and because there were no home and away matches...they won against Lokomotiv Moscou, Rapid Vienna and Sparta Praha...those four teams are much stronger than Zulte-Waregem (but that's the beauty of football).

Franky Dury, their manager isn't even professional (he's a police officer) and only the foreign players are profs.
Dury days he's fed up with the Euro Cup, he wants them to be eliminated, they are not performing as well as he likes in the Jupiler League..Of course this takes away all the pressure from the players and so they perform well, but now i think the fairy tale is over.

Forest News Update

With 3 games gone Forest find themselves 10th in the league after 3 draws.

Nottingham Forest 1 v 1 Fulham

Forest started brightly until Claus Jensen broke free in the 13th minute and slotted the ball past Kiraly for the opener. Forest continued to pile pressure on the visitors and it finally paid off when Marlon Harewood scored in the 75th minute to secure a point for the newly promoted side.

CHAMPAGNE ON ICE AS BLADES OPEN UP 5 POINT GAP

The second of half of the seasom has followed the same pattern as the first for Utd as they remain unbeaten after 2 more wins and a draw. Some sections of the Bramall Lane faithfull believe the title is theirs however Mr Mnj refuses to take anything for granted, "It's not over until the fat Yorkeshireman sings" he said.

Utd seemed to be heading for their first defeat of the season as Slovakian striker Filip Sebo broke the deadlock on the hour. This seemed to spark the Blades into life. David Thompson squandered the chance to level matters from the spot, but he made amends a couple of minutes later with a thunderbolt from the edge of the box. The leagues top scorer Danny Webber scored his 8th of the season to secure the win a few minutes later.

In this top of the table clash both teams were very cautious throughout as neither wanted to risk losing 3 points to the other. Consequently this proved to be the most uneventful game of the season to date. Utd remain unbeaten though!

Utd got back to winning ways with a commanding performance against bottom club Watford. The London's side's fortunes have taken a turn for the worse ever since the Blades poached 2 of their star men during the middle of last season, and it was one of the Hornets' former favourites Marlon King who gunned down his former club with a brace of superbly taken goals and a MOTM performance. King's return to goalscoring form was greeted with delight from his manager "Marlon has struggled in front of goal of late, but hopefully this will give him the confidence he needs to prove to everyone he can cut it in the top flight"

Double Semi-final joy for Reds

FA Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg:
Chelsea 2:2 Liverpool [AET, 2:1 FT]
(Liverpool win 4:3 on Agg)
In a hard-fought fast-paced match, Chelsea took the lead
through a Ballack header from a corner. Liverpool looked
out of sorts having lost their last 2 games.
But they equalized through Robbie Keane in the 2nd half,
only for Drogba to make it 2:1 and take it to ET.
Deep in the 1st half of ET, Mutu equalized and took us through
to the Final to meet Newcastle United.

Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg:
AS Roma 1:0 Liverpool
A Vucinic goal in an ill-tempered match where Liverpool
were down to 10-men after Gavrancic was sent off.
Roma should have won by more, giving the Reds a chance.

2nd Leg:
Liverpool 3:1 AS Roma
The Reds came out flying at home, and raced into a 3:0 lead
at the hour with Keane(2) and Mutu. Roma were shell-shocked
and finally responded thru Totti. Liverpool held on in the
end with Roma hitting a series of set-pieces into the box.
Liverpool will face FC Barcelona in the Final.

Our league form has taken a beating after the magnificent
Cup runs we're enjoying.
We're now 4th and well off the pace after not winning our last
3 matches (Lost to Arsenal 0:2, to Bolton 2:4, and drew Spurs 2:2)

Both had chances to score but in the end the draw is justified...

Forest For Europe ?

Nottingham Forests first season back in the Premiership sees them 9th in the league at the half way stage. Forests fairytale season so far has had many highlights including defeating champions Chelsea 1-0 at the City Ground and demolishing Charlton Athletic 4-0 at The Valley in the F.A Cup quarter final first leg thanks to 4 goals from in form striker Jason Oost. Confidence at the club is sky high and the fans have manager Nigel Clough to thank for that and some optimistic fans are even believing European football to be a possibility.

_42140214_nigelclough_smiles_pa203.jpg

Clough: One game at a time

“ I’m not looking that far ahead yet ”said Clough. “ There is still a hell of a long way to go yet and I just want the team to take one game at a time. If we have a bad run of form we could slip quite easily down the table so I just want the team focused on staying up. I want to re-establish this club in the Premier League, that is my number one goal.”

is900759.jpg

Hamsun: Off to Spain

The only problem this season has been the off field antics of Norwegian target man Claus Hamsun. Nicknamed Handsome Hamsun by the fans because he is also a Calvin Klein model, has been caught in numerous nightclubs by the press and his behaviour has not amused the manager. The player has broke into the first team this season after Marlon Harewood was ruled out with injury. “ Hamsuns attitude as of late has been appalling ” said the manager. “ He’s been coming into training late with a hangover on more than one occasion and it is beginning to affect the rest of the squad. He was wasting his talent and affecting club morale with his cocky attitude so I had no choice but to sell him to Real Sociedad. ”

That minor problem aside, Forest have brought in some players and are surely safe from relegation, with one foot virtually in the F.A Cup semi final this season will no doubt be a memorable one for the club.

MALLORCA REMAIN IN LA PRIMERA

Barcelona take the 06/07 title with two games to spare,
while Mallorca finish tenth.

Real Mallorca finished the 2006/2007 season in tenth postion, thus preserving their top flight status for another season. Despite being in the race for a European place in the first half of the season, The Islanders' form dipped substantially in the latter half of the campaign.

Osasuna and Getafe couldn't beat the drop and will play in La Segunda next season. Their places will be filled by Levante and Real Sociedad who were promoted to the top flight.

Mallorca sealed one transfer in the summer, swooping on the deadline day. South Korean international youngster Kim Jin-Kyu signed a three year contract with The Islanders, moving from K League outfit Chunnam Dragons for 1.9m Euros. The powerful central defender lacks experience, but he packs a mighty shot and will hope to make an impact on his new employers.

Want-away midfielder Daniel Kome has dedcided to stay with the club and see out his remaining contract, despite having said he wanted to leave. The Cameroon international saw interest in him cool and reports suggest he is infact happy at the club.

FA-Cup Final
============
Liverpool 3:2 Newcastle (AET, FT 2:2)

In an epic encounter, both teams were evenly matched at 0:0
going into the 2nd half. Emre gave Newcastle the lead
after he burst into the Liverpool penalty area.
Few minutes later, Dyer scored from a rebound.
At 2:0 down, Liverpool had to do yet another comeback,
which was looking unlikely. Two subs changed the complexion
of the game. Defoe and Odonkor came on for Keane and Pennant.
Immediately Defoe pulled one back, and 5 minutes from time
he scored another through a rebound.
Into Extra-time, Liverpool dominated a drained Newcaslte
and Mutu finally scored the winner in Extra Time

Champions League Final
======================
Barcelona 0:1 Liverpool
-----------------------
The final held at the Nou Camp where Barcelona had overwhelming
support against the underdogs Liverpool.
The first half was a tight cagey affair with a few shots on goal.
In the 2nd half, Liverpool came out of their shell a bit more
with Defoe forcing a fine save from Valdes. 15 minutes from
time Defoe scored the crucial goal after Mortensen was clear
on goal. Barca fought back, Ronnie came off the bench and
forced a great save from Reina.
In the end the merseysiders superbly defended their lead
and won the European crown inspite of finishing 4th in the
league.

Liverpool manager Mathew has decided to step down seeking
a fresh challenge in either Serie A or the Bundesliga.

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR BLADES!

There was a double celebration in Sheffield last night as Utd secured victory in the cup final after ending their league campaign the week before 8 points clear of their nearest rivals. In fact, the Blades didn't lose a single game all year and expectations are high for their long awaited return to the top flight. Manager Mr Mnj was over the moon, particularly as many top pundits were questioning his ambition as a manger after opting to take the job at Bramall Lane, "I always knew these players had the ability to reach the premiership. They just needed a manager with enough tactical know how to guide them there. We're not gonna get carried away though, we'll be happy to finishing 14th next season!"

Week 11
Everton 0
Sheffield Utd 1 King 56'

Utd came out on top in this closely fought encounter. There was little to choose between the teams as Marlon King struck to severly dent the promotion hopes of the Toffees.

Week 12

Sheffield Utd 3 Webber 23', Hulse 56', King 79'

The Blades travelled to Holland full of confidence knowing that a win could guarantee promotion if other results went their way. Top scorer Webber put Utd ahead only for the home side to claw their way back into the game with a superb equaliser. After another half time grilling from Mr Mnj, the league leaders put in a superb second half performnce to record another victory. After the whistle the reaction of the Utd fans indicated that their rivals had dropped points and the Utd players began to celebrate their return to the top flight with a lap of honour! After returning to the dressing room area it was confirmed that all of Utd's closest rivals had lost which meant that not only were the blades promoted, but the title was theirs as well!

After 2 mins trickster Jerome Thomas scored his first goal for the club with a superb solo effort. After 2 convincing league defeats against Utd in the league, Watford feared the worst, however to their credit they came back strongly to contribute to one of the best cup finals in years. Former Brammall Lane favourite Steve Kabba equalised for the Hornets with a delicate chip over Paddy Kenny. After that it was end to end action with both teams creating several opportunities. Extra time seemed to be looming until Marlon King broke the hearts of his former club with a darting run and finish on 78mins and he went on to secure the cup for Utd with a diving header near the end!

Summer Transfer News

Because of the clubs success and the news of a lucrative TV contract for the British Premiership, Mr Mnj has plenty of funds at his disposal. However the Welsh tactician is undecided whether or not to dip into his pocket. "Because of the nature of the club, I think it's important to bring in British players, however I'm not sure whether there are any available that fit our criteria. We'll see!"

Barcelona's four points from nine give La Primera a different
look to the table, five games into the 07/08 season

The new Liga season is five games old and the top of the table has a different look to last season already. Barcelona picked up four points from nine in their last three games, which sees the Catalan giants slip to fifth in the table. Atlético Madrid are the current leaders, closely followed by rivals Real Madrid and Valencia. Real Mallorca currently occupy eigth spot, in a what is still a congested league.

Mallorca managed six points from nine in their last three games, in what's so far been a promising start for The Islanders.

At home to newly promoted Real Sociedad, Mallorca fell behind to a third minute goal from Darko Kovacevic. Diego Tristan pulled a goal back for the home side in the 57th minute, before Angelos Basinas netted from the spot in the 87th minute to seal the victory.

The following week, Mallorca faced La Coruna at the Riazor. The fixture was an open, enjoyable game with many chances spurned. However, an exquisite finish inside the box, from Jonas Gutierrez, saw Mallorca take all three points back to the Balearics.

Kim Jin-Kyu: happy

Mallorca's only summer signing, Kim Jin-Kyu has said that his move to Spain is a dream come true. Kim Jin-Kyu has started all but one game so far and his confident, physical displays in the heart of defence has already won over the support of the fans. "I'm a so happy to be here and i want to stay for a long time" said the stopper. The Korean's presence in Spain adds to a growing number of Asian footballers currently plying their trade in Europe.

Anouar Diba

Transfer rumors: Nantes is said to be showing interest in signing Anouar Diba. This however has not been yet confirmed neither by teams nor by player or his agent, but Martie Ross has said that he'd be very happy to have such a classy player in the squad.
Nantes midfielder Nourdin Boukhari is being said to leave the club this transfer window as he doesn't get enough playing and isn't very happy with that fact.

Eddyedwards AS Monaco Master League - Season 1 Div 2:

TURNING JAPANESE:
Monaco's four latest Japanese signings have been hailed a success in their first two games. On loan signing Shunsuke Nakamura has already scored a goal whilst assisting in two others and winning MOM on his debut. Takahara also scored on his debut to establish his mantle as the 'fox in the box'. Yuri Nakazawa was a tower of strength at the back not putting a foot wrong and Shinji Ono was effective when bought on for the last 10 minutes against Nice and will offer the energy needed for the remainder of the season.

Quoted Monaco's English manager, Neil Edwards: "He has always been a firm favourite of mine, from my years playing on the Playstation 2 with Pro Evo Soccer Series ;) and to have him now playing for my team is a dream come true. He adds the flair and drive any team needs if they are to achieve greatness."

"I'm very pleased in the Japanese acquistions we have made. We haven't paid over the odds for any of the players and the JLeague is one that is often overlooked by the majority of European managers - but there is talent in abundance and I'm not frightened to tap up the Asian sources to obtain the goals we have set."

Edwards will be hoping Nakamura continues his fine form against St. Etienne in the cup and eyes the possibility of making the move permanent at the end of the season if Monaco obtain promotion.

With old boy Fredrick Piquionne returning to his former stamping ground against St Etienne in the cup, there are questions as to whether he he have the nerve and bottle required to lead the line remains to be seen with his current form not particularly extravagant, but Edwards can't fault his lack of effort and creation, providing two goals in the last two games with his superb work ethic.

"Piquionne has an unbelievable engine and an eye for goal. At the moment his luck is not in but in the last couple of games he has shown to me his ability to create problems for oppostion defenders with his constant harrasing and running. Much has been said regarding his supposed preference in Lyon before he came to Monaco but his effort in training and in matches has been faultless and I'm sure he will reap the rewards if we gain promotion."

2 NEW ARRIVALS AHEAD OF PREMIERSHIP CAMPAIGN

Following their promotion to the British Premiership and with a pretty healthy transfer kitty as a result, Mr Mnj only chose 2 sign 2 new players during the close season. The welshman stuck to his word by refusing to sign any foreign stars, "Many teams who get promoted make the mistake of putting all of their eggs in one basket by signing a foreign star. I didn't want to risk the clubs financial security by blowing millions on one player. There is also the the issue regarding players salaries, if I signed a major star, we would need to pay him 4 times as much as my players get at the moment, which would cause unrest in the dressing room. Look how West Ham have suffered since signing the 2 Argies!"

Garry O'Connor - Lokomotiv Moscow (£4.2m)

The contreversial Scottish striker was desperate to return to the UK after a disappointing spell in the Russian capital. O'Connor believes a move to Yorkshire will boost his international career since being frozen out after refusing to report for international duty in October 2006.
Mr Mnj believes O'Connor has the pedigree to succeed in the Premiership, "Garry is Young, Hungry & British, exactly the type of player we want" .
Reports have suggested that Rob Hulse's Utd career could be doomed following O'Conner's arrival, "This is not the case, all 5 strikers will have the chance to prove who should be in the starting XI. Garry & Rob are totally different players who'll be used in different circumstances or as a partnership. We'll wait and see!" said Mnj

Bryan Hughes - Charlton (Free)

Eyebrows were raised among the Utd supporters after Mnj snapped up the experience Hughes on a bosman on the transfer window deadline day. "What is Mnj playing at? We needed to bring in quality, not a 31 year old Div2 player. I might as well sell my season ticket on Ebay 'cos we've got no chance of staying up!" said one irate fan.

Mnj responded angrily "Bryan hasn't even kicked a ball yet and he's being judged. He's a very underated player who'll give us great options in the middle of the park."

Pre-Season Friendly Results
Sheffield Utd 1 King 56'
AC Milan 0

Sheffield Utd 1 Osman 43'
Barcelona 0

Expectations are high after 2 sensational results restored faith in Manager Mr Mnj. However he was quick to point out that survival is the target this season.

Utd head to White Hart Lane for their opening league fixture.

4 WEEK UPDATE

SUPERB START FOR BLADES

After a disheartening last gasp defat against Spurs, the Blades quickly got their season back on track with 2 wins and a draw. Utd lie 4th in the table and Mr Mnj is over the moon with his sides performances "We've been brilliant, especially at home. We always knew that our home form was the key to our survival. If we can pick up a few wins on the road we could even push for a European spot!"

Week 1
Tottenham 2 Berbatov 79' Defoe 89'
Sheffield Utd 1 Kazim-Richards 32'

Defoe celebrates his last gasp winner

Utd more than held their own for most of this game, however their inexperience showed as they threw all 3 points away in the dying moments with substitute Jermain Defoe firing in the winner.

Lineup

Aston Villa 2 Agbonlahor 23', Angel 86'

Hulse grabs his 2nd against Villa

With both sides losing their opening fixture they were both desperate for the points and this showed in an 'end to end' thriller. The Blades deservedly claimed the 3 points however credit must go to both sets of players for an excellent encounter.

Week 3
Sheffield Utd 3 King 12', Webber 71', O'Connor 88'
Arsenal 0

The Blades put on their best showing for years as they demolished title chasing Arsenal. From the first whistle Utd dominated the play and cruised to vistory with some deadly finishing from their strikers. Many post match media reports are suggesting that the Blades could indeed challenge for the title if they keep putting on these types of displays.

Lineup

Week 4

Forest Through To Final

Forest celebrate famous win

Nottingham Forest are through to the F.A Cup final after a fantastic 4-1 away win at St James’ Park against Newcastle. Following the 1-1 first leg draw, Forest were underdogs going into the second leg. Obviously Newcastle thought so to, dropping star players Michael Owen, Damien Duff, Shay Given and Captain Scott Parker. Forest named bar Jason Oost, their best eleven.

Roeder feeling strain of defeat

The first half was a back and forth affair with neither team capitalising on what few chances they both had. The second half was relatively the same until Craig Moore brought down Marlon Harewood in the box in the 56th minute. Harewood coolly beat keeper Tim Krul down the middle of the goal for a priceless away goal that stunned the Geordie faithful. It got much worse for them to 10 minutes later as Harewood turned provider with a beautifully weighted through ball which Jason Roberts slotted home to make it 0-2 on the night. Roberts made it 0-3 in the 74th minute when Roberts first shot was saved by Krul only for him to score the rebound. Newcastle fans voiced their disaproval and many even started to leave early. Under pressure manager Glenn Roeder then acted quickly, bringing on Michael Owen and Damien Duff. Duff then wasted no time causing trouble to Forests defence and in the 81st minute whipped in a cross from the left side which met the head of Obafemi Martins to make it 2-4 on aggregate. Then disaster struck Newcastle in the 88th minute as Craig Moore again fouled Marlon Harewood to give away a penalty which he then blasted in the top right hand corner to put Forest in the final.

MOTM Phil Jagielka

Man of the match Phil Jagielka gave arguably the performance of the season winning every ball in the middle of the field and was praised by manager Nigel Clough. “ Phil was phenomenal today. He just kept running and running without running out of breath. Whatever he’s taking I want some.” But all jokes aside how much longer can he be left out of the England set-up?”

Forest Win F.A Cup

Nottingham Forest upset 7 time winners Liverpool with a 1-0 win to lift the famous trophy for the first time since 1959.

With Jason Roberts declared unfit for the final, manager Nigel Clough decided to change formation from his usual 4-3-3 to 4-5-1 in a bid to frustrate Liverpool. Liverpool went in with the usual 4-4-2.

Benitez fustrated by Forests tactics

Liverpool largely dominated possession for much of the game but failed to get a shot on target all match. Forest’s packed midfield clearly restricted Liverpool to long range shots and where content to wait for an opening. They got just that in the 29th minute when a Jason Euell cross fell at the feet of German Fouque, who smashed the ball past Dudek into the top right corner for the shock lead. Forest held on going into half time.

The second half was the same story, Liverpool resorting to long shots and where nearly caught out in the 65th minute when Harewood broke free but smashed his shot against the crossbar. Jens Libermann was brought on just after for Leigh Bromby to add height and power at the back and he helped stop the speedy Craig Bellamy. Benitez brought on Dirk Kuyt in the 70th minute desperately looking for a goal and almost got one when Kuyt broke past the defence only for Joleon Lescott to deliberately bring him down which resulted in a straight red card. Clough acted by taking off captain Malcolm Stein and brining on Jaric for the final few minutes with Phil Jagielka taking over as captain. Forest endured a tense couple of minutes but managed to hang on and upset Liverpool and win the F.A Cup.

Manager Nigel Clough had tactically one-upped Rafa Benitez and was ecstatic with the win. “ This means so much to the team and to me” said Clough. “We have shown just how far we have come since the start of the season, the squad has been fantastic. This win is also very emotional to because this is the one trophy that eluded my father as a manager, so I dedicate this win to him.”

With the season almost complete, can Forest Qualify for the UEFA champions league?
