I have to agree with most of the comments above, I think the Tim Parks and David Winner books are probably the best two football books I have read, as I expected our lists are pretty similiar

I forgot to mention "Brilliant Orange" and especially "Calcio".
I also liked Kuper's book very much but IMHO it is slightly overhyped (FourFourTwo considers it the best book ever on football).
I still have to read Vialli's book and i've just bought another very promising one:"The Ball is round" - A Global History of Football by David Goldblatt (977 pages!!!).

I remember this, I think it was presented by a guy called Ben Anderson, aswell as the one on the Balkans I remember one on Colombia featuring Edixon Perea quite heavily and another on the Palestine national team. Can't remember what it's called though:(

Okay i've quit my time with FC Sicily, I managed to finsih 13th in my first season in Div 1 I spent most of the season in a relegation battle, which was fun :) But decided that i had enough and anted to play with a new club.

I've decided to do a ML with a Dutch team again, and this time it's with Sparta Rotterdam! :)

Good luck Stringer Bell...hope you like it, at least Medunjanin is one of the better players in the game (well, at least in PES5 where he was in the AZ67 squad, but AZ loaned him to Sparta).

Atalanta new style face a very difficult beginning of the season.

Atalanta - Man Utd 0-1
94th: Dyer (yes, i know...).
MOTM: Rooney

In the first half Man Utd totally dominated Atalanta but Alex calderoni had on of these days in goal...he stopped everything.
During the second half Atalanta went on to play a litle bit more offensive and had some good chances. It was in the 94th minute however that Dyer scored the only goal of the match in the last attack. A frustrating match (although the victory was well deserved for Man Utd).

Atalanta - Cagliari 2-2
11th: Ventola 1-0
32th Loria (own-goal) 1-1
54th Soncin 2-1
92th: Carrozieri (own-goal) 2-2

No comment !!!!

if you go to the beeb news site http://news.bbc.co.uk/ then go down to "Vatican Quashes Soccer Joke" in the audio/video area (watch that too if you like) there will then be a link to it in that window - Football Violence. Eleven players banned after brawl. Augustine Delgado is in there.

JeffT, i noticed a lot of the Eredivise teams have different boots, did you do all that or are they just the default boot numbers for the players.

Ad also i noticed you edited a few of the Eredivise players appearances, nice work! :)

@Stan, Thanks his been a good player so far, he just needs to improve his set piece skills and his balance. Has scored a goal for me yet.

Atalanta finally won a match: 2-1 against Lazio Roma.
Goals from Corvia and Kerzhakov.
Kerzhakov could have scored 3 or 4 goals...

I lost 1-0 in the first leg, at home, to an Oper goal. I played quite well in the game but my players couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net and poor defending during a corner gave away a goal. The game away I won 2-1 with two fine goals from Bouaouzan, Oper scored late on in the game but I held on to go thought to the semi-finals against NAC Breda. Both the tie was played with my substitute players so, it was quite a good result.

I’m currently playing with a 4-3-3 formation that looks like this:

I’m still playing around with different tactics and game plans. I’m thinking of using the strategy plan A and B to use as a change of tactics at some stage duirng a match depending on the situation i.e. a goal down with 10 minutes and need to change into a attacking formation.

Here is a short overview of my team for the first half of the season. Anastasiou is the captain of my team and is being playing well so far this season with 3 goals scored. Medunjanin is a tall AMF, who can play as CMF, where I’m currently playing him; his been playing well so far this season and looks like one for the future. Polak is the LB who takes the short and long free-kicks for me. Obadai is the promising utility midfielder who I’m using as a CMF for my system, needs to improve his balance; he gets knocked of the ball to easily. That’s the main reason why I sometimes use Rose over Obadai, since his tall and strong. Terol, former FC Utrecht player, is my goalkeeper. Bouaouzan is very good WG, fast, agile, aggressive and very good dribbling skills. Olfers is the CB that partners Schenkel at the back; His got some really good abilities for a CB and seems quite lively (moves further up the pitch during matches).

Kennedy is a giant of a CF who’ll be used in the cup matches and as a late replacement for Anastasiou during league games. I couldn’t afford to buy him on a permanent deal, so I decided to loan him for 16 weeks and I’ll be looking to sign him on a permanent deal in the off-season. Kennedy is basically a tall, strong CF who’ll be playing as a target man, in between the two WF. He does lack pace and a finishing touch, but his only 24 years old, so hopefully he’ll improve (that’s if I can sign him on permanent deal) and can become an ideal replacement for Anastasiou.

OUT:

Kerklaan [GK] (Sparta Rotterdam) ------> Celtic - Loan Transfer (17 weeks)

I decided to loan out the 19 year old keeper to Celtic, since his 3rd in the pecking order to Ponk and Terol.

Emnes is a promising CF who won’t get a lot games in my team, so I loaned him out to 1. FC Nürnberg for the rest of the season and hopefully he play some games for them (might even play against me).

Liechtenstein minnows FC Vaduz finished a lofty fifth, in their first season (09/10) in the Zentral Liga Division 1. The plucky club endured a nail-biting end to season which saw them snatch a European qualification spot. FCV face the daunting task, however, of competing in a group consisting of AJ Auxerre, AC Fiorentina and Liverpool FC, all aiming to enter European competitions themselves. Furthermore, the residents of Vaduz face the daunting task of playing host to legions of rambunctious football fans, who'll invade their town on three different occasions.

Amazingly, Paraguayan striker Dante Lopez, again took the golden boot for netting 22 league goals in the season. It's the third consecutive season that the hitman picks up the award, totaling 47 league goals for his club (in three seasons). Quite how the Paraguyan goal-machine hasn't managed to raise a single eyebrow across the continent, remains somewhat mystifying to the few who follow the fortunes of the principality outfit. But then, Real Enormo's loss, is FCV's gain, evidently.

In transfer news, FCV have brought in 6ft 6 (202cm) Dutch goalkeeper Jurgen Wevers from RKC Waalwijk, ex-Grasshopper Stephan Lichtsteiner, on a free transfer and a 35 year old Mario Frick, who is seemingly too old now for the Italian Lega, and joins FCV on a comfortable one year contract, after which the experienced forward wishes to retire.

CL is not impossible. Atalanta were in a group with Werder Bremen, Man Utd and Real Madrid and still managed to qualify as second (only an Utd proved much too strong).

In Serie A things are going well after a difficult start. Atalanata are fourth at the moment (after AC Milan, Inter and Juventus). Sensation of the season sofar is Togolese winger Selaya who is top assister with six assists, each of them converted by Kerzhakov.
In the mid-season transfer window Atalanta need a striker because Corvia seems a enormous mistake (does anybody knows this player IRL????)

As far as I know Corvia is still Roma owned but as yet to really show any quality in Serie A. He was loaned to Ternana last season and did quite well for them, I think this is the reason Siena brought him in this season but it seems Serie B may be his "level"

Well Jeff, he just scored both goals in 2-0 win in a home cup-tie against... Roma.
Apart from both goals he was as uninspiring as ever...but the second goal was something special...a run from inside is half to Roma's goal...you can't say it was skillfull but he just ploughed through the pitch just like a farmer on his field...

Atalanta definitely have a problem upfront. Kerzhakov is excellent. Ventola is very good but injury prone. Soncin is rather clumsy although usefull (i played some seasons in Football Manager with Atalanta and he proved to be a prolific goal scorer in that game...he was rather a disappointment in PES) and Corvia is just not good enough.
Both Selaya and Defendi can play upfront too, but they are better as SMF's...

Captain Steven Gerrard spared his team's blushes last night by netting the winning goal against visitors FC Vaduz. The Liechtenstein minnows had set up in a defensive 4-1-4-1 formation, in which captain Marcus Stein had been dealt the unenviable role of marking the rampaging Steven Gerrard. Upfront, the effervescent Luis Garcia tucked in behind Craig Bellamy, a tactic sure to ask questions of the visitors' defence.
The first half, however, saw the visitors frustrate the home side, a sentiment voiced by the Anfield faithful as boos rang out in to the cold night air at half-time. The previous day's cheeky press comments of "target practice" had failed to materialise thus far.
FC Vaduz were clearly encouraged by their first half display and took to the field buoyed by the home fans' discontent. The second half once again saw the majority of action in the visitors' half. Dante Lopez cut a lonely figure upfront for FCV and any chances were sporadic and limited to distance. In the 74th minute Warnock pressed down the left flank, towards the kop end. He crossed into the box, where Luis Garcia rose like a salmon to head goalwards. The ball crashed off the crossbar and back into play. The keeper, already committed into action, found himself tumbling behind his own goal-line, as Gerrard popped up to smash the ball home from six yards, despite Stein's best effort to get between the captain and the goal. Anfield erupted as Gerrard paraded infront of his adoring fans. The relief was clear for all to see.
Despite the loss, FC Vaduz will hope to build upon their impressive defensive display when they visit AC Fiorentina in the next European qualifier.

proff, great to see things going so well for you mate. Your game against LFC sounds a bit like the sort that the big boys take far too easily. Will you get to play them at home too ? sorry not sure how these European games work.

I will be back in the new year with more Espanyol news, with valverde teeting on a knife edge ... just imagine it's like LOST and content yourselves with the various mythology surrounding the club, in particular Balague's beard (is it a fake or not ?!?) :)

I will indeed. Vaduz will be overrun on three occasions.
4 teams in a group, with home and away fixtures. Top 2 qualify for CL proper and third qualifies for UEFA Cup. Fourth - nothing.

FCV MAKE UEFA CUP KNOCKOUT STAGES

FC Vaduz have qualified for the UEFA Cup knockout stages after coming third in their qualifying group. A double over AJ Auxerre and a hard fought goalless draw at home to Liverpool was enough to secure their progression. The Liechtensteiners have been drawn against Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur in the first round.

Hi guys. Well, it was quite a turnaround. After 2 group games i was bottom with 0 points. However, then came a home tie (with Auxerre) and a win. The following European game was another home tie (against Liverpool) and resulted in a goalless draw. It seemed the Rheinpark was becoming a fortress, in Europe at least. But then Fiorentina beat us comfortably (again). It then came down to the last match (against Auxerre again, this time away) to decide who would grab the UEFA Cup spot.
Our domestic form had been suffering, probably as a consequence of Europe. We were languishing in the relegation zone for a period, but we've managed to haul ourselves out into mid-table. Luckily there's a break before the UEFA Cup resumes (the Champions League groups need to get underway and teams will drop out of those groups and into the UEFA Cup). As i mentioned before, though, i've already been drawn against Spurs.

Nerf - amazingly, nobody seems interested in my Paraguayan goal machine. He's had a slow start to this season, but he's climbing up the scorers table. It would be something if he got top scorer for a 4th consecutive season. He's easily the most prolific scorer i've ever had. An inspired transfer on my part :)
