can i ask the portugese people, What is the opinion of the ppl on Cristiano Ronaldo now? what do u all think of him?

All aboard the trick pony express!

C Ronaldo can be easily taken out with a little body strength, touch him and he falls down.

Hes a bit of a girl really, cant head (mess up his hair), cant tackle (get muddy)

We're gonna have to watch out for his dives. He might get away with a freekick or even a penalty.
Not very nice if someone like Figo is gonna take them.

I was thinking, maybe we could put Gerrard on the left with Scholes in the centre. Gerrard could assist Cole when Ronaldo or Figo tries to break through.

I cant believe how confident they are! I mean come on, player for player we have a better team!

They have momentum like we do so its only natural to be that confident. I personally think Portugal are gonna be tougher than France.

Just 3 hours from making my way to the stadium eh eh...

Meanwhile the english police representative here in portugal says he expects more trouble from english fans IF THEY WIN rather than if they loose loooool weird guys :). Hope Portugal make this policeman more secure lol.. but I expect a tight game.

C Ronaldo can be easily taken out with a little body strength, touch him and he falls down.

The problem is being speedy enough to touch him before he gets past lol. I think he will fall over the side of Cole, which will create a problem to england: should Cole move forward as usual (and needed for the english game) and leave some clear spaces for Ronaldo to make use of or should he stay back covering but weakening those right sided attacks?

Portugal have a lot of free kick specialists, and tricky players so giving away sloppy tackles will not be defenders first priority - it depends on how the referee starts the game, if he is tough like they have been lately then C. Ronaldo, deco and especially Figo will have a field day.

The portugese defence is as good, if not better than the english in my opinion, and while the midfield starting eleven are on their last legs mostly they can still compete at the highest level.

My only question mark as I've said is the goalkeeper and having just one lone striker - especially if it's pauletta who hasn't had any chance to shine.

I will enjoy watching Portugal beat England for a whole host of reasons, not least that they are the hosts and deserve to go through.

God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.

O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall:
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix:
God save us all.

Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen.

Our keeper hasn't had the best of seasons, but 2 years ago he was instrumental on boavista's uefa run at the semis and in the last game agains spain he had a most important run to take a ball off Torres legs... anyway can't say Calamity James is a sinonym of security either :).

About the striker it will be Nuno Gomes as Pauleta is off on yellow cards. Nuno was the man that made the 3-2 for Portugal 4 years ago so.. also symbolic.

PS - Doesn't Baros with his new girlie haircut seem fairly similar to Nuno Gomes seen from above in TV broadcastings? lol

thats my opinion, dont know how you can say Carvalho is better than terry, Valente just as good as Cole, Costinha just as good as Gerrard (thats the stupidest thing ever), Maniche just as good as Lampard lmao, ill give you deco but stick your ronaldo up your ass, scholes is three times the player he is

GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOUR GOING OUT TO THE GREEKS, OUT TO THE GREEKS

Au Revoir Froggy :D

Owen is one dimensonal for crying out loud :D in fact, on current performances I'd say Owen has improved technically but he's not getting the goals to show for it.

The Figo, Beckham comparison is unfair as it's clearly bias showing through.

Maybe if you know me you know how much I hate Beckham but overall when he's on his game the guy is a very useful squad player - although he's made assists so far with his crosses he hasn't done much else though so in that sense maybe the comparison isn't that far off?

Costinha and Gerrard... well I know who I would rather have but that is a really subjective arguement where we would only end up arguing over nothing ;)

Carvalho is better or as good as Terry, but let's put it this way: he's played much better than the latter in this tournament and that's all that counts.

and yes I see the similarities with Baros and Gomes ;)

for all you rooney haters ;)

I really think we can do this tonight, lets hope we havent built em up too much again!!

They are european champions. Why? Because they're great players.

Just want to comment on how the English media/fans is over building Wayne Rooney. This is a very similar situation to Micheal Owen's in the 98 World Cup exit. If you look at Owen's accomplishments in the past 6 years, despite being a very decent forward, he hasn't lived up to what the fans and media built him to be at the time.

Comapring Rooney to Pele after 3 decent games is complete nonsense. I can only imagine pressure accumalating on the 18 year old as the media couldn't seem to find anyone but him to sing their praises for in the past week. All this could effect the player negatively especially if he doesn't live up to the expectations and say wastes a vital chance or doesn't show the same form against Portugal.

If Rooney scores tonight and plays a vital part in taking England to the semis the media might compare him to a cross between Maradona and Pele while I would say he's a decent youngster who was not in form for Everton last season but, like Baros, is in excellent form this tournament so far.

However, if he has a bad game and England lost the media might turn on him and start pointing fingers cause he hasn't lived up to their over exaggerated expectations. I would still say there's always time for this talented youngster to develop and overall it would be a very decent tournament for him.

who are you trying to convince cigol? Us or yourself?

No one else is listening!!

At least I put an ounce of thought into my posts as opposed to your one liners which do nothing to further the disucssion.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, I'm merely offering my opinion, and whether you listen or not isn't for me to worry about - in fact it will only make your defeat all that more pleasurable in the end.

Miguel/P. Ferreira - Gary Neville > Portugal

Gary Neville has been Mr.Relaible and Sol Campbell he is a rock.

Our midfield outclasses every single one of your midfielders, there is no comparison.

You can't help yourself can you?

Only this time you don't even have a valid reason for leaping on my post because the difference is people actually took you and your supposed opinions seriously - you just didn't know what they were in order to discuss them.

How can that pic NOT further the discussion, its quality

???

I'm talking about Stesh and his one-liners directed at me in this thread here and against a lot of portugese and french fans elsewhere.
Got nothing against the guy, but I speak my mind on the matter just like him.

35minutes left by my computer clock. Really cant wait now. The talking stops and we'll see whos going through to the next round. Brilliant match in prospect, hopefully it'll live up to the billing.

Well im off to sit infront of the tv and crack open a can and watch it all unfold. Enjoy the game everyone
