The 'Become A Legend' Discussion Thread

Not sure if its a coincidence or not, but I changed the England formation to a 4-4-2 in the edit screen as I was sick of playing 4-5-1 in BAL when I was called up for the National sqaud. At first it didnt change in BAL mode, but in the following season it now has. Which is so much better for me. ;0)

I hate the England formation too. My exp of them on BAL was being knocked out of the Euro's group stage and then failed to qualify for the world cup. I was making sub apps for them during this period. They were awful.

I've just moved to the Eredivisie and looking at the transfer market information, I noticed De Graafschap have a forward line of Aguerro, Messi and Eto'o!!!

Hmmm....

That's one of the negative points Terry.
In my BAL CAEN has Seedorf, Nedved and Maldini...perhaps sligthly more realistic since they are older players...
I think both ML and BAL should be customizable to a degrre that you can decide which sort of club can acquire which sort of player...
The game itself is more and more addictive: Mansouri is really doing well with nates now: scoring goals, being man of the match...on top of that Nantes had a really bad patch but since mansouri is a regular starter, they had an Fulham-esque escape from relegation (there is no relegation of course...which makes it all pointless, perhaps my main gripe with the mode...).
Now Mansouri is hoping to play for the Belgian national team...

I always wanted there to be a relegation from each league. and perhaps when the teams get relegated, you pick the teams to come up (cos there are many teams in the game that are not in BAL mode, and would be nice to see them go up and down)

Also i dont think its a bad thing that any team can buy any player, it makes sense because in real life different teams inprove, and others get worse as years go by (Manchester City for example, getting Robhino)

I began this the other day and i created a 17 year old version of myself. I'm an AMF/SMF/SS and i decided to start in the Premier League.

After a dull 0-0 Babilayna Salsabie game, i recieved offers from Stoke and Fulham. I was very pleased to see Fulham, as they were exactly the team i wanted to start at in the Premier League. Plus it would have been one of my local teams at the time. So i got the No.20 shirt and made the bench for the first fixture of the season against Stoke.

Andrew Johnson managed a goal in under a minute from kick-off (i've never had a 0' goal before), a lovely shot from distance that went in, off the upright. It remained 1-0 for a good while and i was given the nod with about 25 minutes left. I came on for Bobby Zamora and was played upfront alongside Johnson. My first contribution was cross to him inthe box, but he didn't quite get to it in time. After that i managed a shot from distance which only flashed wide of the left post.

It ended 1-0 to us and next up is Man Utd. I'm looking forward to the derby with Chelsea later in the season.

No idea how you get them, they just seem to appear. My guy got a tick for errrrm response?? the other day.

whether they help or not is interesting. Obviously it means your quality in that part of your game. But whether the special attribute improves your ability even more I don't know. I would assume it does.

Not quite sure when you get them - I've got them sometimes but not always its difficult to tell for me as although they're in red, its difficult to distinguish between what is match experience points and what is training points.

I have seemed to get some match experience points for things like Jump and Heading when I've won a lot of headers in a match, even though I had no points in Strengthen before the game.

Regardless, you seem to get a lot more points through training rather than match experience, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I've just noticed that its changed on my game as well in the next season. I then updated England squad and tactics in Edit mode (putting in Heskey, etc). In the previous season, they were still playing 4-5-1, which meant that as I was a CF, I was on the bench every game. Now in next season has changed to 4-4-2 and I'm starting every England match :D

LOL retirement at 20 years hahaha.. maybe you drove of a cliff on your way back home from a match ;)

Anyway, I would like to know how to get special attributes as well. I've just got my 1st one in my 4th season (1 on 1 shot). I have no idea if it gives my any advantage?

It should make it much easier to score against the 'keeper in 1-1 situations, i.e. when you're through on goal and the keeper comes out, you'll try to slot it past him and have a better change of success than if you didn't have the attribute.

I've got the scoring attribute which makes it much easier to score in general, but wish I also had 1 on 1 shot - seem to miss more of those than I score as my stats still aren't great

Here's a few tips about become a world class player. You don't necessarily have to have good stats. Apply the strengthen blocks accordingly to your position. I'm on the wing so for me its speed, passing, and dribbling. In games your teams AI doesn't play good if you don't. Have a good pass ratio, and pass forward rather than backwards. This allows for your team to gel, mount an attack efficiently and by not passing back to goal your team is not easily pressured. Try and shoot on target. Players are rewarded with a better rating, if they have a good shooting ratio. And obviously concede as less fouls as possible but do get stuck in there. You team will follow your example if you hesitate to make tackles.
I was voted into the European Team Of The Year and voted Best Player In My Division for my fifth season, with an average stat of 7.14 when i moved to Florentina. I now have offers from AC Milan, AS Roma & Lazio to mull over.
I also manage to play for the team I support Tottenham (come on you Spurs!) before that, but they didnt offer me another contract after half a season
Anyways good luck everybody.

Whooa Prof you got lucky to be on the bench on the very first match. I had to play 6 or 7 weeks in training matches before i was on the bench...
Maybe you were very, very impressive in the match you were discovered...

Look at this online player???
huhhhlt5.png

he said he had a complete guide or something? His player was also very very big (187cm though). He also had 11 attributes while my manual says you can only have 8 of them?? He also said 30 mins one halftime...?

I think he cheated or what is this

I've seen an Editor that can change your BAL stats - I don't know if it worked though. Maybe he used this?

Well i didn't impress myself :D

Since game one, i've played more than i haven't. Sometimes i make the bench, sometimes the starting XI and sometimes i don't make the squad. Oh, i got my first goal against Everton (it was an equaliser), who then thrashed us. Although it was given as my goal, it really came off Lescott.

Obviously my stats are a bit rubbish at the moment, so it can be quite frustrating, stumbling around. Hopefully i will improve and eventually earn a move abroad. I'm thinking Italy or Spain.

Ye pffffft i pmed him, there are some trainers on the web or so where you get 99 blocks on every stat @ strenghten. I hate those cheaters -_-, they ruin the game and spoil the fun for others. The worst part is you can play with those cheat players online...

That guy lied about playing 30 min matches on top player etc. Quite sad cause he said he didnt like it to be called a cheater by everyone but at the end he didnt work for it as he stated but he cheated for it -_-.

I created myself as a SS, and after scoring the only goal in the training match, received offers from IFK Gothenburg, Brondby and Anderlecht (I'd created a division with teams from the 'Other' category as opposed to having the Eredivise).

I took up the offer from IFK and after about 4 training matches, managed to get myself on the bench. I scored on my debut after coming on as a sub, and then after another two goalscoring sub appearances, established myself in the starting XI and never looked back.

First Season

The team didn't have much quality, reliant mainly on my goals and the support of Tobias Hysen and Freddie Ljungberg, despite being a winger, Hysen usually started up front with me and I was often frustrated with his reluctance to pass :CURSE: In the mid-season transfer window, IFK acquired the Brazilian striker Nilmar, which fortunately meant Hysen went back to the wing where he belongs. :APPLAUD:

However Ljungberg was absolute class, and I knew that if I made a run and shouted for the pass, more often than not he would not only attempt to get the ball to me, but it would be exactly where I wanted it :D

IFK Gothenburg managed to win both the League B title and the Cup, I finished top scorer with 28 goals in all competitions, but around half of these came from corners, due to my lack of quality.

Overall stats:
Games played - 36
Goals Scored - 28 [2 hat-tricks]
Assists - 8
MOM awards - 12, MIP awards - 1
Average rating - 6.84

Second Season

The team brought in some half decent players, including Bruno Cheyrou, Philipp Lahm, Rasmus Lindgren, Nilmar and Halil Altintop.

I started the season on fire, scoring in each of the first 6 games of the season, with a total of 8 in the first 6 games, before I needed to skip a match and re-couperate. The rest of the season continued in the same vein, with the team winning the league and cup double for the second season in a row.

In europe, despite a valiant effort, we were eliminated from the group stage of the European Championship - hardly surprising in a group with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Fiorentina! Despite starting poorly, in the end we finished 3rd in the group, only eliminated on goal difference.

The team went instead into the Masters Cup, and ended up lifting the trophy, after annihilating Liverpool 5-2 in the final, in which I managed to score a hat-trick.

Overall stats:
Games played - 46
Goals scored - 58 [5 hat-tricks]
Assits - 7
MOM awards 21, MIP awards - 2
Average rating - 7.05

World Cup Experience

At the end of my second season, I was called up to the England squad to play in the World Cup. This was completely unexpected as my stats were still rubbish and I was still only 18, but I guess it had something to do with scoring in pretty much every match I played for my club.

For the first game against Egypt, I was on the bench and brought on as the lone striker with 20 mins to go and England losing 1-0. Within seconds of coming on, I managed to get the ball of their centre back near the halfway line, broke away and slotted past the keeper. Then with 10 minutes to go, I managed to find some space behind the backline, received a pass from Ashley Cole down the left channel, ran forwards, then cut back inside onto my right foot past two defenders and lashed the ball into the bottom corner. England ended up winning the game 2-1.

England managed to progress beyond the group stage, despite an embarrasing 2-0 defeat to Canada , and with two more sub appearances, I ended with 3 goals from 3 games, also bagging the winner after coming on with England drawing 1-1 with Chile in the other group game.

England progressed to the semi-finals, and despite another goal, I was still on the bench, slightly miffed that Alan Smith was preferred despite no goals and Rooney was playing on the wing! This time the manager decided to bring me on at half-time, with us losing 1-0 to Argentina. I proceeded to score two goals and set-up a third for England to win 3-1. In the final against Italy, I was on the bench again (), and came on with 30 mins to go and the game at 0-0, the game was very tight with few chances - with 5 mins to go, the ball broke to Gerrard at the edge of the area and he unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner, meaning England won the World Cup! :D

Overall:
Games played - 7 (all as sub)
Minutes played - 230
Goals Scored - 6
Average rating - 7.71
MOM Awards - 6, MIP awards - 1.

Was selected in the team of the tournament, and also won Player of the Tournament, though pipped to the Golden Boot by Ruud van Nistelrooy. Made a bit of a mockery of the manager deciding not to start me in any of the games in place of Alan Smith or Gabriel Agbonlahor, who managed a total of 0 goals between them.

Sometimes i don't get this the logic of this mode...
Mandouri was a first team starter for the entire second part of the season with Nantes. Nantes endend the season fifteenth after and Houdini-esque escape from relegation. Mansouri only missed the last game of the season (3 yellow cards). In the following transfer window 4 clubs were interested , but not Nantes. He left Nantes for St-Etienne with a broken heart...In St-Etienne he got the same message as alwyas : "Mansouri aiming to make the bench...". I stopped playing an continued my league with Atletico Madrid (where i had to endure a last minute equaliser in the derby against Real...well i guess i'm lucky in love...).

I just finished a season with Everton, got loads of MOTM awards, consistent high ratings and broke into the England team aged 18 but Everton didn't offer me a contract extention. Ironically though Man U and Chelsea are battling for my services and obviously them being a lot bigger than Everton, I'm wondering if its possible to 'outgrow' the smaller clubs as your wage demands increase? Has anyone else had this happen?

Guess not,.. my salary is now 3200 and there are still teams like Slavia Prague (with all the respect) offering me contracts for 3000+.

Mmmmm I see, well there goes that theory. Ah well onwards and upwards I guess, I just need to choose between Chelsea and Man U now.

Nice pics Casartelli. You stayed at Athletico Madrid for 5 seasons? Quite good.

yep 5 long seasons. Chelsea was in the same league and I was really waiting to get the division title and then move to another league. So I did,.. i played half a season for Chelsea, won the title and then moved to Real Madrid (I got an offer from Inter as well,.. Real is playing like old ladies, so I'm a bit disappointed now:CONFUSE:).

This mode is both addictive and frustrating. My stats are still pretty crap and i bumble about a bit. If i get time to compose myself i can get off a decent shot or pass.

I'm still in my first season and at Fulham. I've featured in 14 matches and i've started most of them and tend to get subbed off around 70 mins.

I've got 2 goals and 1 assist :BOP: and i have 1 MVP. My second goal was a beauty against Hull. It was the second in a 2-0 win. I found space and hammered it from the edge of the box. I missed a chance to score against Arsenal, but Almunia saved it with is face. It was a point-blanker.

We're not doing particularly well though. I think we're around 15th in the table, although we were in the relegation zone before.

My aim is to join a club that will be in Europe. I also want to play in Spain and Italy.

Hey all just thought I'd share on my players progress.

So at the end of Season three when I first posted Lyon were heading for a historic treble, riduculous but none the less it was happening. The league title was clinched with three games to spare, and the side went on a winning run that you expect of Lyon. Domestically we seem to be a cut above the majority of teams, only Le Mans seem to challenge us.

The domestic cup was the next aim, when we faced Nice, Moustapha Hadji was there danger man... hmmm.

The game start promisingly with us taking the lead, Makoun rising to head home at a corner. The joy was short lived as Nice broke almost instantly and equalised. The teams shared a further two goals and the game was deadlocked, so extra time ensued. I was a little concerned as my player had never last 120 minutes and I didnt want to be withdrawn and miss the action. With 112 minutes on the clock the Nice left back lived up to his teams name by completely underpowering a back pass, sensing the danger in a Michael Owen esque move I pipped the goalkeeper to the ball, lined myslef up with goal and stroked the ball into the net. One of the best feelings on the game after scoring that goal. I didnt manage the full 120 minutes but the lads held on and the double was ensured.

The CL final, vs Chelsea. We started very brightly, the team seems to up its game against better sides, and we really tested Chelsea, although Peter Cech was a monster in goal, and the blues always looked lively on the break. This livelyness turned into deadlyness as Ricardo Quaresma headed in a perfect cross from Ashley Cole. 1-0 down... trouble? The scores stayed ilke this at half time and the I wasnt too annoyed to be fair, play like this and at least weve gone down with style. It took until past the hour mark for my moment. A perfect through ball by Juninho and with John Terry closing me down I stretched to poke the ball past Cech, 1-1. I was withdrawn on 80 minutes, a long season taking its toll on my 80 odd stamia. The game went one step further than the cup final... penalties. And I had to watch as my idol (Karim Benzema for those who didnt see the first post) step up and drill the ball against the post. How can I hate him though... Easily, thats how. Chelsea converted all 5 of their kicks, I felt good despite the loss, the side battled, and thats all you want. Plus I need something to aim for in the future

Season 4:
After rejecting Barcelona and Inter in the summer, I didnt fancy a battle for my place all over again, I have reached just past the mid season transfer window, and we have been elimated from the group stages of the CL, Man Utd and Real Madrid too good for us. A diving header against United at Old Trafford a personal highlight, throwing away a 2-0 lead to lose against Madrid at the Bernabau a low point. A Master Cup campaign awaits and a real chance of glory, plus more games to help improve young Sallis (my alter egos name). Sallis now has a 90, top speed. Only a couple of stats in the 60's, swerve being one of these. Alround he is becoming a capable player playing in a brilliant team. Overall though I just want a stat increase... And International recognition, the International Cup is coming in the summer and I really want to play for France. Benzema starts and I scored 21 compared to his 6 last season. Raymond Domenech beggers belief...

Overall I'm enjoying the mode, when my girlfriend allows it, and reading this thread while Im at work my my bosses arent watching.

Very good Dazzoi. I won the Champs league on pens against Barcelona while at Chelsea. Barca went down to 9 men and they still dominated us!!! But scrapped it on pens, phew.

Nutmeg what position do you play?

Casartelli top player is tough but I enjoy that challenge. I have 2 BAL's. One is top player where I'm at Arsenal playing RM and the other is on normal difficulty where I'm a striker in my 2nd season at Real Betis...22 goals in season one. Normal is abit easy :D
