Sony PlayStation 4

There's two settings, default setting is:

Tap once to open the share menu
Double tap to start recording video from that point
Hold it down to take a screenshot

so does tapping once actually record anything or just open the menu?

Tapping once brings up the menu but also automatically saves the last 15 minutes of gameplay from the point you open the menu. The console constantly records everything you do.

Double tapping selects a manual straying point for recording something.

I'm trying to find my best TV settings for using my PS4, does anyone use stuff like dynamic contrast etc on their TV with this console? I've also switched the PS4's rgb setting from limited to full, and then went to my TV and changed the hdmi black level from low to normal (apparently normal should be used in conjunction with full rgb range).

Problem is without all the artificial settings my picture looks a bit washed out and drab. How does everyone else set up their TV (give or take they're all different)?

Really your TV should have all them kind of settings off.

I would get this and use it to setup Sky/Virgin, Consoles, Bluray players and whatever else you have attached to the TV.

Well worth the investment and it will improve your picture loads.

Trust me you will be blown away by the difference when it's calibrated properly compared to a a pre-set setting on the TV.

Thanks guys. I might get that calibration bluray, though I suspect it might suggest a lower brightness setting that makes really dark tones have a kind of 'trail' behind them. Sounds strange but I only really get it on FIFA when players move, the dark tones of their hair leave a trail on the screen momentarily. If I whack up the brightness and gamma, and add a tiny bit of contrast, it removes and goes bright, crisp and vivid.

Because there are so many variables for what will look best including time of day, material viewed, and personal preference, paying to have your HDTV to be "professionally" calibrated is a complete waste of money.

I have multiple settings for just those scenarios. You have no clue what your talking about. Go on av forums and spout this nonsense ,
Please.....

I have multiple settings too -- all to suit my tastes, and I didn't part with one cent:))

That's fine but I am very positive what I paid for gave me more realistic
Colors, brightness and pop then what your eye has given you. A calibrator is not popping in the DVD essentials disk, they have scientific based tools they use that are thx certified as was the calibrator himself

My ds4 worn down its plastic from the left stick. Unacceptable! I am so angry with Sony!!!

Is that the plastic rim around the thumbstick? Has it completely worn away?

I've used mine extensively since launch day and my pad is exactly as it was out of the box, thankfully!

Just out of interest did the calibrator turn most of your tv settings down? I found a supposedly professional calibration setting for my model of TV and the results look awful. The backlight etc are all so low that even playing FIFA in bright sunshine looked like there was an impending eclipse. The picture was so dull.

I've gone rogue with mine. I've set my PS4 back to RGB auto (basically limited), switched my TV back to HDMI black level of 'low' (the opposite of what I'm supposed to do - I can't see any difference between RGB full and limited when used with HDMI black levels) and ramped up dynamic contrast, reduced other black levels and colour, increased gamma, and the picture now looks detailed, sharp, vivid and colourful.

Why do calibrations insist on screens so dark and flat you can barely see anything?! And why do people bother changing RGB limited/HDMI levels low to RGB Full/HDMI level normal? I can't tell the difference.

No his tools told him to up my brightness but it looks fantastic

I've settled on the standard limited rgb and HDMI black set to low. To be honest I see absolutely no difference between that and rgb full with my TV set to HDMI black set to normal.

On another note I can't get used to this video recording. Either it's glitchy or I'm not doing something right. Pretty much every time I press the share button, the game will automatically save the last 15 minutes of gameplay. That is, unless I actually do something cool and worth recording, in which case it seems to save a video of stuff that happened further back than those last 15 minutes.

For example, I scored my best ever goal on FIFA today. I pressed share to save the last 15 minutes after the goal went in, but when I came back to the video later to edit it, the video it had saved was from the match I played before that. The video title was 'Liverpool v West Ham' but it actually recorded a game before that one. So I missed the goal.

Also, I did something awesome in Battlefield 4, I actually lay on the ground in a bush as a tank, unaware I was there drove right over me but I was lying in between the tank tracks so was safe. I threw C4 to the underside of the tank and it drove off. I stood up, and detonated the C4. Again, I pressed share right afterwards, and later went back and the video was of stuff that happened before that.

WTF?

I always edit and upload the stuff I want straight after, so if I plan to upload a whole match I'll double click the share button at kick off to start recording then edit and upload the first half and do the same again for the second half, I don't trust it to record by itself ;)

Try deleting all the captured videos saved on your HDD. I had something like 70 gig of files, deleted the lot and I've not had any issues with it automatically recording the last 15.
