Sony PlayStation 4

It wasn't disc noise but fan noise that bothered me, but I'm over it. It's just a characteristic of the PS4: because the fan runs at variable rates dependent on the work it's needing to do, you (or at least I) just notice the difference when it's running at max compared to when it's hardly working.

I did move the location so that it's better ventilated, plus I primarily play FIFA, which the PS4 runs very quietly. I also hardly hear it playing AC4.

It's just Killzone that makes the fan ramp up. I'm not sure what that means for future, more demanding, games, but whatever.

A bigger issue for me right now is the DS4. I've had sticking L1 button issues with four different controllers. With my recent controller, I popped off the L1 button and cleaned it out, and it's been working fine for the last week. Worse though is that the left analog stick is showing wear on the top of the stick, which is both annoying and disconcerting.

But I'm still very happy with the machine overall. Killzone and AC4 have been disappointments but FIFA has made it all worthwhile for me.

Glad to hear you're happy with it after the initial concerns. I'm well happy with mine so far. My DS4 L1 button started making a sticking sound last week but so far it seems to have stopped again.

I'm really enjoying the games. FIFA had been great fun, and I think Killzone is better than some make out. It's a by the numbers game but the multiplayer is actually really fun. I completed the single player game yesterday, to be honest I enjoyed it purely for the lovely graphics and I enjoyed using the O.W.L, bit that early forest mission is by far the best in the game. The open-nature to the level lends itself much better to using the O.W.L too. Shame they didn't go down that route a little bit more for the rest of the game.

I'm enjoying the video editing on this, too, I've been having fun making some vids of stuff I did in KZ that looked kinda cool.

All in all, my PS4 so far runs quiet as a mouse, and seems great. Really glad I decided to pre-order mine and have enjoyed using it so far.

So far I've had no problems with mine either, whisper quiet whether I'm playing Fifa or Killzone, no controller issues yet (besides having to get used to the stick placement after so many years with the 360 controller!).

It actually worked! PS4 + 3.5" 2tb 7200RPM SSHD.

Ignore the mess :)

Gotta love the Sports Direct mug. Is that to remind you of the UK? :P

I went to buy dog food at Target. I heard 'Hey Nana ,they have 10 ps4 !' I drop the dog food and ran like a mad man. I wasn't even planning to get one. The fact that it was available I got it. I was thinking of buying another to sell it abroad ,South America .Suck , I had to re- buy FIFa14 .

As for headphones. I'm content w/ my iPhone 5 headphones (ps4 pad). Is there another way to use sound ( ps3 RCA plugs)?

i find my PS4 quite noisey when i am playing fifa

i am even using a Astro A50 headset with closed ears with game chat and surround noise, albeit not to loud but i can still hear the PS4 in the background.

obviously the fans keeping it cool with it being such a tight design system.

Modification complete:

Ended up neater than I even could have hoped for, the removable cover has vents at the back which the SATA cable fits through and the cover slots back in place despite the cable so pretty perfect IMO :)

Did you not need to cut any plastic then? Looks a neat job

Don't like the idea of your ps4 sitting on top of the amp

Nope in the end I didn't have to "harm" the PS4 in any way at all, which of course I was pleased about as I'd imagine I haven't broken the warranty or anything, inside the PS4 you have a SATA 22 pin gender changer:

Connected into that is a male - female 6gbps Sata cable:

Which connects to the hard drive, then you just need to power the actual SSHD hard drive (the PS4 doesn't put out enough power for a 3.5" SSHD)

Then finally a Molex - Sata Power connector

(This one most people have spare from their computer motherboard/PSU)

Might get a bit hot on top of that receiver, no?

Surprisingly the AV receiver doesn't get very hot at all, I have a thermometer sat next to the PS4 on top of the AV receiver right now and it's showing 30c despite being in the middle of a Fifa session :)

Does anyone find the video capturing to be a bit unpredictable? I scored three absolute beauties in FIFA 14 tonight, did the relevant stuff by pressing share to make sure it captured the last 15 mins of the game, but when I finished the game later on, I found that it hadn't saved them.

One was my favourite goal I've scored so far :(

Double click the share button when you score a beauty. It will record from that point. Then I think a single click ends the recording.

So does anyone know how you can see whether a game is updating? Started FIFA the other day and it had an update. When I went to start the game I got a menu asking whether I wanted to continue as the game was being updated. Backout to the main menu but I couldn't find a menu or display showing the update in progress. Was I too slow and had it already completed or is there a separate menu where you can see whats going on?

Yeah had it happen a few times. I press share, it goes to the menu, but the latest recording could be from 5 minutes ago. It's not like it's hitting the 15 minute limit and missing as it starts a new. It just flat out isn't recording. I've had it happen in battlefield, FIFA and assassins creed.

Notifications> Downloads it will show you background downnloads

Don't know if this works or not but apparantly you can log in using your psn on the sonystore website and buy the PS3 AC4 Black Flag for £17.99.

You can then upgrade this for £9.99 on the website for the PS4 version.

Not sure if this is legit or not, but I assume if you can upgrade digital downloads it's all good.

It works, I used a £35 PSN card(which cost £29) to buy BF4 when it was on sale at the weekend for £24.99. I then upgraded it to the PS4 version for £9.99, so I ended up paying £29 for PS4 BF4, bargain!
