Sony PlayStation 3

Im with holio, ill be getting a hdtv before a ps3, seeing as the games i want to play this year are multi console anyway and a couple are 360 exclusive.

Was in Game yesterday, guy I know is trading in everything he owns for a PS3, PSP, PS2, XB360, the whole works. I said, so you got an HDTV then to make full use of it, 'No mate, not yet, I'll just have to make do with my 17inch portable TV' so we both had a chuckle.

On a different note, Game will be offering a 3 year replacement / insurance thing for your PS3 for only 35 quid, which seems a great deal as I got a letter this morning from my dishwasher manufacturer offering me a years extra insurance on a 200 quid machine for 55quid.............. I declined.

I meant to include accidental damage and other faults, no way would it cover theft.

Ok... after trapzing across New York City during my shopping exhibition I found a GameStop store. I asked the guy if they had any PS3's thinking "No chance they wont have" and to my suprise he said "yes we have a 60GB model" So I then shocked him by saying "Ill Take it!".Today has been my 1st opportunity (since landing back in England) to test this baby out and its pretty darn good. Menu system is easy just like the PSP. What I dont like at the moment is the fact I cannot set my own wallpaper (which oddly you can on the PSP) and I cant play my own music during games, I hope Sony add this functionability during a later firmware upgrade. It looks fantastic plugged in to mine and the missus's 42" HD Sharp LCD TV Via HDMI! I would recommend doing what I did and buying an expensive cable as it helps the picture quality no end.

I bought Formula One CE and MLB Baseball 2K7.

Overall a good machine yet expensive allthough I did save a fair bit of money buying it from the states. The only downsides are that I cannot play English PS2 games or Region 2 Blu Rays or DVD's.... Any questions? just ask and ill give you as much info as I can.

Dj (Now a PS3 & 360 owner)

Hey dj, could you do a mini formula 1 review when you get the chance? Don't bother about the baseball game though...;)

I could trade in the PS2 + 35 games, PSP + 16 games, and 360 + 8 games

how much does anyone reckon that would get me?

EDIT: I want to keep the PSP though, for the connections with the PS3

Mate don't bother trading in all that for a PS3 lol, i really don't think it's worth it.

Similar to the PSP, it has Settings, Music, Photo, Video and Things like Internet/Playstation Store and Remote Play.

That reason alone is what really made me get a PS3. I adore the playstation pad and just cant get used to the 360 one.

Dont worry too much on the size of the console. Its crafted in such a way that it doesnt look that big. Looks fantastic infact.

The machine is great and works really well. What came out of GDC has made me even more happy with my purchase. If it was £100 cheaper it would be an essential buy.

Spot on matey with your views.

Look's like Sony is getting it's arse in gear.

Deffo gonna get one in next 2 months. Not to botherd about flashing the dvd drive, oops i mean blu ray drive Holio;)

Thing's are finally starting to fall in place. I too see "Home" being a major selling factor on it's self, if.. it is the same as the beta it's gonna be HUGE.

Are those tickets/invite's available to public or do i gotta work in the industry 1st?

tnx

Just got an email from Gamestation saying I'll be getting a free X-Men 3 Bluray with my console so I guess I'll be cancelling the Amazon order instead.

That was a joke, right?

I wasn't trully being serious, I wouldn't get rid of the PS2, or the PSP

The 360 right now is worth £180 to Game or GS, can't remember which, plus the 8 games, extra controller and quick-charge kit, and I'll get money for my birthday in two weeks plus I've got another £100 or so, so I should be okay for getting one around May-ish, definately not keeping the 360 though

PSP Value Pack is 85 quid in Game, PS2 ordinary 30 quid, PS2 Slim is 50 quid, and a 360 Premium is 180 as you said, games, prob most of your PS2 ones would be 1-4 quid max, 360 games are 12-25 quid I think tops, not sure about the PSP ones, prob anywhere between 4-12 quid.

the only problem the ps3 has right now is it doesnt upscale 720p to 1080i. ive got one of those hdtvs that only support 480p and 1080i. hopefully they come out with a firmware update that fixes this. playing motorstorm just isnt the same in 480p.

I thought you were supposed to get Casino Royale.... which I would prefer. XMen3 was a bit crap!

Those tickets were actually open to invite, but being in the industry helps a little. Im now actually part of the 'PS crew', as it were, so should get invited to the next one. Sony do an event every quarter, so I'll make sure I put a link on here when the invites next go out.

theres some pics on the official site, but Im only in one so far :( even on that one you can hardly see me!

Im the guy in the grey cardy hiding underneath the bright lamp, left of the chinese dude.

Ive got loads of pics of the place which I'll put on here and my myspace page once I get it off my camera onto PC. Even got one with Phil Harrison. All I can say is not only is he a gentleman, hes Huuuuuuuugggggeeeeeee! I reckon around 6ft 6! He didnt like it when I asked 'So when are you guys gonna recall all the sixaxis controllers and put rumble in them like you should of done in the first place?' ;)

Oh, and wanna say I finally played Virtua Tennis 3 on PS3. And yes it plays exactly like VT2, so Im more than happy. The only difference is animation, and it truly awesome seeing different players move around differently.

The first 500,000 people to sign up to the PlayStation Network will get a free copy of Casino Royale, X-Men is just a special offer because he pre-ordered.

That's a shit load of free Blu Ray movies............. That's one way to push a product...

Played the PS3 for a bit last night, have got a free one through work (our clients spoil us with hardware at work). First impressions, I don't like it. The controller is clunky and the actual console itself looks like a big plastic piece of mess. The 'desktop' is a joke. It doesn't have the simplicity of the blades-system that the 360 uses. It is messy and complicated. Only had a quick bash at Formula 1, pretty impressive actually. I am not sold or blown away by the PS3 yet, give me time.

Controller clunky? Ive never heard anyone describe it like that! Id say at first I said it was 'uncomfortably light'. Doesnt feel like you're holding something sturdy, or of any value. Ive got used to it now though.

To be fair your whole review is totally opposite to what I think. The machine's looks are one of its plus points. The user interface is more simple than the dashboard (Id say too simple), and finally I think F1 is a load of tosh ;)

F1 a load of tosh? obviously someone doesnt know anything about F1! Ill have you know its actually rather good and does a decent enough job!
