Sony PlayStation 3

HMV had a PS3 set up in their store today & it was running some game & tbh my first impressions in terms of graphics were it was no better than the 360. There was a member of the staff giving it the hard sell & he reckons Sony can't afford to lower the price because of the cost of blue ray technology. Slick looking machine but won't pay 425 quid for it!
 
Well after much ummming and arrghhing I got myself a guaranteed pre-order yesterday from my local Blockbuster store. Then my missus said "I will buy it for you if you want and I will wait for it with you" :) aint girlfriends great sometimes?

Ill be getting mine with Formula 1 CE and Motorstorm.

I just watched the new Heroes and was impressed with the graphics of the PS3 and this game. I have never heard of it before.

Heroes is badass, for a TV show! shit, just watched the last episode (until April 23), it just aired on the west coast. damn, you guys get it early?!

Hi guys, the Price for the PS§ is to High, here in Germany i can Get the x-box360(Premium with 2 wirelles Contoler, 20Gb harddrive, and the Games:Kameo, and PGR) for 339€ and its ready to Play!

For the Sony Console i need 599€ + 60€(for a Game) + 60€ (for the second wirelles Controller)= 719€for a similar Package!!!!

Come on Sony are you MAD???? I will wait its the First Time i dont get a Console, first Time they get out!
Its a shame video Games gi High society, not everyone can give this Money!
 
Depending on how well they sell in Europe could decide when there maybe a price cut. I still think the launch will go well, they will sell out, and Sony will be thinking, see, we didnt need the emotion engine chip after all..... I also think that this Christmas will go well for them, it'll be MS's third Christmas, and alot of people will simply look away from it due to that fact, the Wii may not be back in stock come then ;) leaving Sony a big sell.
 
Yep everything announced today at GDC was very special. My personal favourite is LittleBigPlanet, but I can see Home being huge.

btw anyone going to the threespeech event in London next week? I managed to get an invite and was wondering if anyone else on here is getting to go. Its an invite only event where you get to meet people who work for Sony (i.e. Phil Harrison), get to ask those same people questions and play the lastest PS3 games.

The threespeech website was offering free tickets to people who emailed them so I managed to get one through them. Really excited, would be cool if anyone here is going too.
 
Now this is what we like to see Sony! :D

I loved LittleBigPlanet. Gaming innovation at its finest imo. I was scared that it'll be like that Flow game but the ability to play other people's creations is phenomenal. I can imagine myself messing about with it for a while.

The problem though is that in order for it to work, it needs community - but have Sony priced themselves out? There is a potential catch-22 situation here with Sony getting people to buy because of the community but in order to be attractive, it needs the community.

Sony still have a long way to go in convincing people to depart with their cash but they are going about it in the right way imo.

Sadly, as a 360 owner, I can only see endless FPS coming our way - which is not great if you're not a FPS fan (I'm not a huge fan of Halo). With titles like Heavenly Sword, I suspect many will shift to Sony.

If only they had online play with Virtua Tennis 3 that is :(
 
I am not all that fussed about Home, it seemed a little too MMO'ish to me! LittleBigPlanet was awesome though, I love the look and sound of it. It really does need a big community behind it and new content being made available, however; it is the first thing on the PS3 that has actually made me interested in the machine.
 
I am a bit of an indecisive fool, so...

...should I sell my Premium 360 at a good price (inc Wireless adapter, charge+play kit, PGR3, Table Tennis, Crackdown, GOW, Rainbow Six, Halo & Halo2) to buy a PS3 (I am a movie fan too) or should I wait and see how it pans out (360 will devalue though!)?

It's only one or the other for me personally. I'm not a huge FPS fan (apart from Rainbow Six) so I won't miss Halo 3 much - and games such as Heavenly Sword, MGS and Final Fantasy appeals to me. I never quite got used to the d-pad of the 360 with PES :eh:

I need convincing! ThomasGOAL where are you?!

I'll convince you because I'm thinking of doing the same thing

Premium 360, wireless adapter, quick charge kit, PGR3, GOW, R6, FIFA 07, PES6, Just Cause, THP8, Xbox Live Arcade and an extra controller

I'll get rid of it and get a PS3 as soon as my Xbox Live runs out, I don't care about the money I've lost now, because I just want a PS3

I never was much of a Halo fan, Crackdown is unfortunately crap to be honest, and I don't see much else on the horizon

plus I'm used to the PS2 controller, and I want GT5 and MGS4, and GTA/PES/everything else will be easier will a PS controller

plus I am NOT spending £130 to watch HD-DVD's and having nowhere to put the HD-DVD adapter

oh and....the PS3 is SHINY!!!!!! VERY VERY SHINY!!!!!
 
Look at it this way Rocky, is there anything you really want to play on the PS3 right now? Yes the 360 will decrease in value, but for now does it offer you more gaming?

Right now, a PS3 offers me nothing I want to play, no title I cant wait on, when I got my 360 it was because of PGR3, still love the game. The PS3 has titles I like the look of, mainly Lair and Heavenly Sword, but neither our launch titles, and I dont own an HDTV.

Therefore an HDTV is on my to get list before a PS3, and till the PS3 has something I cant play anywhere else and really want to play, it can remain in the store. I certainly wont be getting a launch machine, mainly as I dont agree with paying £425 quid for it. Sure it's a cheap Blu-Ray player, but as I dont have an way of taking advantage of that, I dont need it.

So that's the way you weigh it all up, you want Virtua Tennis with Online, you buy the 360 version etc. Will the decrease in value of your 360 make up for the games you might miss out on. Say Mass Effect, when you will have a launch line up of 20 odd games, many of which you will of played before.

And VT3 on Live!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rocky, if ya dont need it at launch, wait a little bit, I dare say come the end of the year you would be getting better game deals from shops.

Shame there's probably no chance of that happening, there's still plenty of places with stock. Either Sony are supllying an awful lot of consoles or they aren't selling as hoped (which with sites offering discounts and adding xtras into bundles, seems more likely to me).

That reason alone is what really made me get a PS3. I adore the playstation pad and just cant get used to the 360 one.

Dont worry too much on the size of the console. Its crafted in such a way that it doesnt look that big. Looks fantastic infact.

The machine is great and works really well. What came out of GDC has made me even more happy with my purchase. If it was £100 cheaper it would be an essential buy.
 
It's only so shiny so that the light bounces off it and you dont actually realise how big it is!!!!!!!! ;)

Joke lads, if I was a multi millionaire, I would get one at launch, in fact I would of had a US machine I reckon. But till I will the lottery, I'll save for my HDTV... :D
